Hi forum,

Willow is my new baby. I've had cats as companions for most of my life, but she is the first kitten in almost 30 years and I intend to spoil her rotten.

She's extremely outgoing, friendly, and active. We've already been hiking together and she even walks on leash for a short distance on city sidewalks.

She is also my first raw fed cat. I'm mostly doing Stella & Chewy's frozen, but I also have an excellent and affordable source of feeder mice and rat for treats and supplementation. It really doesn't get any easier than whole prey.

She's having a few minor issues with the houseplants or else I haven't found the right litter for her yet so I figured it was time to open an account, ask a few questions, and hopefully eventually answer a few as well.

I look forward to getting to know you.

:welcomesign: You’ve come to a great community of knowledgeable, friendly, and just plain fun cat folks! There are lots of topics to explore.

As you can imagine, there are always conversations about litter and litter box use—or non-use :). And there’s a forum for raw and home-cooked food here: Raw & Home-Cooked Cat Food. I feed raw so I’ll probably see you there at some point.

Please post pictures of Willow when you get a chance!

OH MY! Willow is such a cutie, isn't she? Welcome to you both!

Oh, as for that "the houseplant is a litter box...two sugges...well...THREE suggestions...Start a thread in the Behavior forum! You'll get the most replies that way. Second, those small, decorative rocks sold in bags (about dime sized) can be put on top of the dirt. That generally does it. OR, you can get a box of plastic forks, break the handles off short, and stick several, prongs up, in each plants. Looks kinda wonky, but after a couple of weeks, you should be able to remove them. My neighbor grows tomatoes in pots and keeps forks in hers to keep the neighborhood cats out.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! I hadn't thought about the decorative rocks. I had read that alluminum foil over the top of the pot might work, but Willow seems to have a knack for finding little bits of alluminum foil in my less-than-immaculately-clean house and playing with them as if they were crinkle balls. She LOVES them!

I can easily get plastic forks. My whole house looks wonky right now, so that's okay. Kittens grow up SO fast!

I'm glad I didn't overdo the pictures. I'm over the moon in love with this little girl and both of my doggies too.

I've also used marbles. In fact, I use two trays full of marbles behind my Christmas tree because one of mine likes to hide behind the tree and chew on it.

We love photos here! That little white spot on Willow's tummy is so cute!

It's not just me, then? It totally melts my heart.

I thought it was just because I've never had a grey and white kitty before. Koala didn't have a white spot on his belly even though he had about the same amount of Siamese personality (his sister, Wallaby, hardly had any) and the same medium length kitten fur.

I don't think you can see it in any of the pictures, but in real life in the right light you can just barely make out her tabby markings, and they're definitely Classic tabby markings, with the swirls and whirls.

Franklin, the last cat, was a Mackeral tabby. I miss him terribly, but he was never actually mine in the first place. He was my kitty soulmate in many ways, but never my property, and I wasn't sure if I could ever love another cat again.

But I can. And I still get to say, "The cat has more grey hair than I do!"

Willow is so gorgeous and stylish! And her colors, those eyes and that coat, they go great together!

Did you find a solution to the plant problem?

Dr. Elsey's Kitten Attract litter has really helped. I still lost my largest Coffee tree to the urine of death, and that really hurt. She's coexisting with them pretty well right now, at least better than the last cat did. I got laughed off of one plant forum and told to "Keep the (expletive) cat out of the grow room!" but I love seeing the little hauspanther resting in the dappled fake sunshine of my indoor garden. ;)

She does eat the spider plants. They are irresistable and an active teenager can get into all the adult-cat-proof places I used to keep them over the winter.

She outgrew her clothes! I need to sew up some new ones. The nice, thick undercoat seems to be keeping her warm enough but she needs them for visibility just in case she ever slips her harness and gets lost. I have kept her in raincoats because I live in a rain forest so that's kind of necessary.

I've never put clothes on a cat before, but we started so young that it's a complete nonissue to Willow. It's for her safety and comfort. Anyone who finds a lost kitty wearing a pink T shirt with rhinestones spelling out "Spoiled Rotten Princess" is going to know that she isn't a feral, she can't take care of herself, and that the tag on her collar and/or microchip between her shoulder blades is something that needs to be investigated.
