Hi, it's nice to meet everyone. So I'm here because I need some help. I was visiting a friend's house yesterday, and they were telling me about some cats that were hanging around there house. One was a black male, and very skittish. The other was a white and tabby female who was very loving and sweet. I saw the black kitty on my way into their house, and he ran off. I'm a huge cat lover, but know to leave a scared kitty alone.
I visited for a bit, they told me about the kitties, and said they named the female Peaches. They showed me a picture they had, and I thought she was very cute. They mentioned taking them to a shelter, since they can't take them in. They told me I might not see Peaches, because she only comes around every couple of days. To my delight, when I went to leave she was there. I approached her, and she gave a friendly meow, and asked for pets. I happily obliged, and noticed that her belly was very round.
I turned to my friend and said. "Uh, do you know that she's pregnant?" He replied that he hadn't but that he really wanted her in a safe place. So I took her in. However I know nothing about cat pregnancies. Or how to help. It's been a long time since I was around a pregnant kitty.
I know she's pretty far along, because her belly is bulged out, her nipples are pink, and the hair around them is thin. I can also see movement if I watch her belly carefully. I'm just not sure how far along she is, and I want to be prepared to help her. I read a bit online, and went out immediately to get her the correct type of food, and I got a box for her to nest in. Although I think I might find a bigger one. I could just really use some advise.
Here's a picture of Peaches.

*Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to explain how I got her.

Thank you. She's actually very sweet. She jumps up on my lap, stretches out across my chest, and butts her head on my chin. I actually already have two cats, I recently took in my step-sister's kitty, and wasn't looking for another. But I feel like I was ment to meet her, and help in her time of need. I know having another cat around is stressful on a new mother, as well as the cats already in the home. So Mommy Peaches is secluded in my second bedroom with food, water, a litter box, a nesting box, and I stay for awhile to give her love.

You will be blessed for helping her.....just keep her calm with plenty of kitten food, which has more nutrition and calories. I don't think it will be long, but am concerned that she is so young. She will be very nervous and scared having her kittens and may need some help with cleaning them up. She's not very big, two or three kittens. You might want to refresh yoruself by reading through some posts in the pregnant cats and kitten care forum. Remember, as long as she is taking care of the kittens, is calm, and does not appear in distress by meowing and pacing, everything is fine. All teh luck!

Thank you! I did read some fourms last night, and have been reading through other people's threads. I did get kitten food for her to eat. I saw that someone suggested also giving some kind of kitten milk. Should I do that as well?

Peaches is adorable! Thank you for taking her in! :redheartpump:

Since you can see movement, she probably has two weeks left at the most, as StefanZ said. So it’s time to start preparing! I’ll attach some helpful articles.

Help! My Cat Is Having Kittens!
Thanks. These will help alot. I'm going to try to get her into a vet today. She's eating, and drinking just fine. But she has diarrhea when she goes poop, and I can see fleas crawling on her.

Yes, giving her kitten milk would be good for her. Peaches needs all the energy she can get! Look for KMR or Petlac at a pet supply store.

She’ll need a flea treatment, de-worming, and possibly an antibiotic for the diarrhea. Sometimes it’s from worms; other times it’s bacterial from eating who-knows-what spoiled food as a stray. An x-ray can confirm how many kittens and how much longer she has to go. Hold off on any vaccines until the kittens wean.

Are you giving her wet and dry food?

I called the vet, and got an appointment set up for her on Monday. I'm going to wait to treat her fleas until then. I was reading the labels on flea medicine at the store, and all of them said to consult a vet if the cat is pregnant or nursing. I do have some flea medicated cat shampoo, but I don't want to give her a bath, and risk hurting the kittens if she struggles. I am only giving her dry food at the moment. I just got back from the store with some kitten milk. Should I give her wet food too?

You could use food grade Diatomaceous Earth to kill the fleas, it's completely safe to use on animals as long as you make sure it is food grade and avoid getting it in their eyes. Since she will let you touch her you could put some on your hands and rub it into her fur.

Kitten milk in meaning of kmr; kitten mother milk replacement.

Another excellent alternative is goats milk.

Yes, its good. A well kept home cat does seldom need much extra nourishment. But an ex homeless had hardly first class cat food, so she is surely somewhat undernourished.
She need all she can get.

Yes, please give her 2-3 cans of wet food a day now and through nursing. She needs all the nutrition she can get to support her kittens. A dish a day of kitten formula will give her the extra calcium she needs as well.

Let us know how the vet visit goes! :)

Update: Peaches was in her nesting box this morning. I went to check on her this morning, and she was laying in it. I don't think her kittens are coming yet, but she's been laying on the floor by the door or under a chair I have in there. So I was glad she liked it. I did find a bigger box for her that I'm going to set up today. I will keep you updated.

Update: Peaches seems to be doing fine. Very calm, purrs alot. She went into her nesting box again when I got home. She played down, and started grooming herself. It was kinda funny watching her because her belly is so big it's hard for her to reach some places. I'm a bit worried, she had a really liquidy poop a little while ago. Like projectile, squirted out in a arch kind of poop. I read about another person who had a kitty with diarrhea and giving her 100% pureed pumpkin helped. Should I give that a try?
I mentioned that I have other kitties, and I think their feeling a bit lonely. They come to the bedroom door where Peaches is, and I meow and scratch at it when I'm in there.

This big goofball is Ren. I took him in almost two months ago from my step sister. He's the one usually at the door meowing, and scratching. Little stinker.

This sweet baby is Chi Chi. She's about 14 years old, and I'll have had her for two years in December. She's my little snuggle bug, and she loves to curl up with me. She's also recently become a pillow hog. Which is weird, because she's usually curled up against my stomach under the blankets.
I will keep everyone updated on Peaches condition. I found another box to set up for her so she has a few options to choose from. I think I'm going to get rid of the first box I set up because it's fine for just her, but I feel like she'd be cramped once the babies come.

It’s not unusual for a cat to have diarrhea in the days prior to labor and delivery. It’s due to hormones and cleans out the system. :)

Update: I got Peaches second nesting box set up. So now she has two. I got rid of the first one, and replaced it with a bigger box, then got another big box, so she has something to choose from. She's becoming more vocal. She's been pretty quiet the last few days, but has started to meow at me. I think we're becoming closer. I also got her a new covered litter box, so I don't have to keep cleaning up poop off my floor. Hopefully she doesn't try to have the kittens in there.
*This was her first nesting box.

Now she has two bigger boxes. I also got her wet kitten food today. So far she's eaten a little bit of a can. Her vet appointment is in two days. I hope everything goes okay.

That’s great you got her bigger boxes. The first was much too small for her and her kittens. It sounds like all is well for now. Keep us posted! :)

That is awesome that you are taking good care of the mama cat! What is going to happen with the black Male. Will he have tnr done? Is your neighbor taking care of him? There is the possibility that he is the father and is ready to mate again with another stray

I'm not sure what will happen with the black cat. He comes around their place to eat, but is too wild to catch. As soon as your foot hits the ramp leading up to their porch he takes off.
