Our cat will soon need a rabies vaccine that’s required in our area. Those who have used a 3 year regular vaccine vs. Purevax... does it make much difference in the long run? The purevax is harder fo find & is more expensive so I have wondered if the regular one is fine. Thanks for any info from those who have used rabies vaccines long term.

Where do you think?
Here it's the law to vaccinate cats. I have the 3 year defensor vaccine for both cats and neither of them have had any adverse reactions to the vaccine outside of the usual being tired the next day and reduced appetite for a couple days.

Have you read about vaccines on Dr. Pierson's site?
Vaccines for Cats: We Need to Stop Overvaccinating
It's a good chunk of info, but she strongly recommends the 3 year. It seems rabies vaccine is not the worst culprit when it comes to sarcomas and kidney disease though, so if you can't get it, but you can be careful not to overdo other vaccinations, that might be good.

Cats don't have to be vaccinated for rabies in my state, and my own vet has recommended skipping it for my indoor-only kitties with other health issues to be safe each year. They did receive plenty of vaccinations before I adopted them, and I've never had them tested but I'm sure their titer levels are just fine.

Just on the availability & cost issues............

If there's one of these outlets near you, you'll pay $33 for PureVax - here you are: Find A Clinic | Pet Care & Veterinary Services | VIP Petcare. They use ONLY PureVax for Rabies and FeLV. I think you'll be able to navigate around the site from there.

IF you can't get PureVax - or, even if you can - there's a new option for a safer vaccination location: the tail ! Here's the info with a video from the University of Florida College of Vet Med: Tail Vaccinations in Cats

You might have to sell your Vet on this - unless they're already up-to-speed!

Hope that helps!
