Hi all!! Samuel is a feral I recently came to care for. He had a bite wound abscess that looked horrible. I trapped him last Friday and took him to the vet. They cleaned and debrided the wound, neutered him, and gave him an injection of Convenia. I hadn't seen him in 4 days until this morning. I'll post pics from pre-vet visit, day of vet, and today. Just curious as to what your thoughts are on how the wound is looking. Again he is completely feral so I can not get close to him to doctor the wound in any way. I realize it's going to be a long healing process but wondering if you guys have had any kitties with open wounds like this and what kind of healing time might be looking at. TIA

Omg...that looks so painful. Did the vet say anything regarding prognosis? Did they give you any antibiotics that you could put in his food? It does look a little better. I am surprised that they didn’t do anything to close it up.

Wow. I am very surprised that he was released back outside. That looks very painful. I think I would have kept him in a cage until he was healed.

Yet the Convenia injection should help as long as the wound stays relatively clean.

Thank you for helping him.

I have a male with a similar bite that was infected on Top of head to lower jaw. Vet game us 10 days of antibiotics to put in his wet cat food. I am also spraying the wound with vetericyn as we can pet our cat now. Ours cat is not what I would call out of the woods yet as the wound was smelling before we found out how bad it was. Best of luck as we have a another feral that we cannot touch with a similar wound who will not go in a trap.

Hi! The vet seemed to be very optimistic, the granular bed looked excellent, no signs of infection at that point. Gave an injection of Convenia. The wound was looking excellent until last night, he scratched part of the new tissue off. Still healing wonderfully AND I can pet him now. So this is a gamechanger. Looking at options for this beautiful boy. :)

Oh, and their was no tissue to close the wound, very large area so not able to close.

Yes, picking up some Vetrimycin Monday now that he's decided to be a lovebug.

Does anyone have any tips on what worked for them in helping a wound like this heal? I can pet him now and he will even let me touch the area. He seems to want me to almost scratch it for him. I've got to get him past this point or this will never heal. Ugh. My Vet was out of Vetramycin so I thought I would do a little more research before ordering anything. Last night he was scratching at it like crazy so were almost back to square one. TIA
