I just realised recently that I recognise my Scamp's "I'm about to poop" meow. It's quite a different meow to his other "I'm bored" meows, or his "I'm hungry" ones, or his "It's 04:00 in the morning let's all wake up!" meows. This specific meow sounds like a question, and it usually means he'd like either an audience for his poop, or that the litter trays aren't as fully clean as he'd like them to be (I empty them at least once daily but with two cats there are times that they're not always 100% spotless...) :ohwell:

I don't think I'd admit to anyone other than a fellow cat person that I recognise my cat's poop meow.

Do you have anything you'd like to share that you'd only confess to another cat person?

:climbcat:

I hold conversations with Charlie and Selene. When I hear one meow, I imitate them, and that gets them going. Charlie is the chatterbox of the two. He'll come up to me, squeaking, and I *know* he's trying to communicate. So I squeak in kind, and we go back and forth. I have no idea what they're saying, or what *I'm* saying, but it's clear that something is definitely being said.

3 of my cats do not meow much, so when they do, it means there is something they urgently want or bring my attention to. I know when my cats meow for food, meow when they complain, meow when they get excited, meow when they are hurt. Different sound of meow, different tone, different volume. Sounds crazy. But I never talk about this to others, especially to those who are not fond of animals or of cats. They will think I am out of my mind.

Funny but I grew up as a dog person, and not so long ago that I have started taking care of cats. It feels like I am already a pro in cat communication. LOL.

The wife notices that I tend to hold chats with the cats regularly. I talk to them and they meow back like they understand me. The last few times the wife walked in on us chatting, the cat and I look at her then at each other then back at her then either I ask "What" or the cat meows at her.

I don't tell people about that much. It freaks the wife out sometimes also,

Sorry to be morbid but I care more about dying now because of my cats. Especially Benny. Before my attitude was more like ‘meh everyone dies why not me.’ But now I actually get worried about it because Benny isn’t an easy cat to care for and he’s a momma’s boy. And he needs raw food. I don’t want to leave him behind. He depends on me.

Some of us feel the same way as you do. So better from now you start saving for Benny and look among your closest of friends and relatives, as to who is the best candidate to care for your cat. You can also start discussing this matter with the person or persons you have in mind. You can also include your cats in your will.

I feel the same way, too. But I have already discussed this with my son. My husband won't probably be taking care of my babies as much as I do, so the best person in mind is my son.

I talked to my bf about it. But I think he would have a hard time taking care of 3 cats. But he wouldn’t want to separate them either. I guess it’s never too early to set up a will? I have nothing like that right now.

A trust will work too.

I also talk to my cats. Anyone here who knows my relationship with my cats, knows that I read a lot into their expressions too. I talk to them the way I would another adult. Lol After all, they are grown up kitties. I don’t avoid telling people who know us much of anything about the cats. I want them to know how my cats are treated in case I am not around. The cats would need continuity. The vets have even learned the songs I sing to each cat when I baby or comfort them. Seeing the vet sing to them cracks me up. I was very surprised the first time it happened. Pleasantly! With new people or strangers, I don’t tell everything. I break them in gradually. ;) I don’t want them running away. :flail:

Another cat people only secret that I have is that I want a 4th cat. Namely one of the kittens my stepmom has been fostering. Normal people would think I'm nuts! But right now, logically and financially it just isn't a good idea.

That's so cool. Demi doesn't have any specific meows, but when he wants something, he will meow until I get up and follow him. Then he shows me what he wants.
Our Noka does that when their litter needs to be cleaned. She gets really demanding if I don't keep the litter cleaned as much as she thinks it should be. Shade on the other hand doesn't care about the litter being cleaned constantly.

The thing I'd hate to admit is vet bills. Not that we're complaining, but when you mention that you spent 2 grand to save a sick cat, they look at you like you're nuts. Even a lot of dog people will act like you're crazy to have spent money on a cat when you could have bought something expensive (and pointless) for your dog, like organic water or a fancy harness that stops pulling and somehow trains your dog to serve you bacon and eggs on Sunday mornings.
Two thousand bucks can buy a lot of stuff but it can't buy the love of any living thing. Keep your smart phones and smart pads and apple pods or whatever it is. I'll keep my little buddies :petcat:

~ I don't tell many people that I have far too many cats that stray into my yard and become part of my "cat family" . I mostly share these details only with fellow cat crazy folks here at The Cat Site and people I meet at the spay/neuter rescue shelter :lovecat2:

Or having to say you spent $1,500 on cat boarding for 3 cats for 3 weeks while you were on vacation.

How much I spend a month on cat food for two cats! People outside of my 'circle' either look at me like I'm nuts or outright tell me to my face that that they'd rather let the cat starve to death than spend that much on their food.. (I live in a rural farming community where a LOT of people just see cats as vermin or farm stock/mousers)

I get that.
I don't even tell most folks anymore that our cats are raw fed, because the instant response is how "spoiled" they are. Okiedokie then.

Oh. Money?
103 cats spayed or neutered is not something I usually tell! My oldest girl, Smokey had to have two surgeries during that time too. BTW I don’t have 103 cats. I was doing rescues and adoptions. I am still looking for a few more homes in case anybody needs a kitty! I don’t usually tell others that I gave my Smokey an IV every day either. If I do I get this :jawdrop: .
Worth every penny and worth having Smokey mad at me for weeks. Who could resist this little face?

Even her mad face?!?! :p

I just realised recently that I recognise my Scamp's "I'm about to poop" meow.
Yes!! We call it “singing the poop song.” Lily is the only one who sings the poop song, but it’s distinctive and unmistakable. And I listen for it because she poops only every 4-5 days—and pees only once a day...in the morning—all of which makes me a nervous wreck.

I never tell people how closely I monitor my three cats’ litter box usage, how I sometimes creep quietly along behind them, hiding behind corners, so I can watch them go to be sure all is well. I think when you’ve had cats with constipation or crystals or other related issues (yes, Iris, you were worth the 2 a.m. trip to the ER vet and every penny of the $900 I spent for your hospital stay), you become very aware of these things.
