The other night I was sleeping downstairs in one of our pullout beds, I have a terrible snoring issue that has gotten worse this last year and yes I have been checked, no sleep apnea, I'm not overweight, don't take meds etc. it is probably allergies and getting a bit older ha ha so Deb (who also snores) and I take turns, one night I sleep upstairs in bed with her downstairs then we switch off. Anyway, the other night I heard some noise in the kitchen, just thought it was the cats doing whatever they usually do, the noises during the night sometimes are very strange lol! But it stopped so I went back to sleep. 5:40 yesterday morning Deb was in the kitchen and told me "the one stove burner is on!!!!", she said it was bright orange so that noise must've been him jumping up and landing on the stove top controls, pressing down on it and turning it on before he jumped down, oh man!!!! It had to be him, he and Sylvester are the only ones who jump up around that area that we know of looking for their treat containers which they sometimes find and knock on the floor spilling them open, and Sylvester was on the bed with me the whole night so it had to be Stanley the little dickens! I checked online and saw that they make covers for the burner controls, stopped at Home Depot and bought them, they come in packs of 5, we have 4 controls but they are pretty wide so I could only put them on the two front ones as they don't fit all four together but that should be enough to stop that from happening again, wow.....

Yikes!!!!!! :eek2: :help:

Stanley, geez!!
Yes indeed, wow.....first time that happened ever but Deb was afraid to go to work after that so I temporarily put a few plastic washers under the controls so they couldn't move until I got the safety controls. I doubt he would do it again but there's no way we're taking that chance again!!!

The knobs themselves are removable for cleaning. It might be a pain to remember to remove them and put them back on, though.

Child safety stove knob covers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. You should be able to find one that fits your knobs.

This is not about your almost house fire (EEK, by the way!:eek2: :)), but I wanted to offer you some advice on the snoring.
Sometimes, and now more than ever due to increased use of computer, phone tablet, etc...most people have adopted terrible postural related chronic conditions. This poor head posture (which usually includes shoulder posture problems and jaw tension as well) causes the anterior muscles of the neck (front) to become shortened (too tight), it changes the position of the spine of the neck and creates imbalances muscles (some too tight, too weak, too strong, strained) it can put pressure on the throat, and can cause snoring issues. If your health has checked out, I would look into seeing a physical therapist as well as massage therapist to help correct your posture and alleviated the tension of your neck and shoulders.

Also, if you've been very stressed and tired lately, that can increase snoring too.

Just wanted to add, there's more to the posture stuff than I wrote but just wanted to give you a quick description. I also work in physical therapy/massage and have helped people with their snoring as well as other issues that most people (even doctors) don't realize that the muscles and other tissue, joint and muscle imbalances and poor posture can cause.

I bought some safety covers at Home Depot and put them on the front two knobs, the covers are too big and bump into each other if I try to use all 4 but I am sure just having the two front ones covered (which is one he hit) will prevent this again!

Thank you!!

Oh I am so very sure that you are correct on this statement, I have had strange chest muscle pains off and on for years until awhile ago I realized that it was from poor posture at the computer and other things, but I never would've thought it would affect snoring! I saw many neck and throat exercises for snoring and tried them but none seemed to work, so maybe what you suggested would help, thanks so much!

The other thing that I do know is that when I started to get worse with snoring was about 1 year ago, and it was at that time that we here in Pennsylvania started this pattern of getting much more rain than normal which of course made the pollens especially molds increase dramatically. I was tested years ago and was allergic to 14 molds and got shots for many years which helped immensely, but they said I didn't need them anymore. I don't take any allergy medicine as I read that could only increase snoring so I at times take homeopathic remedies for it with some success, but I believe this is why I started to get worse from that time frame on, and it is not stopping as we are about 9" above normal rainfall amounts for the year so far!

Thank you so much for this information, I will certainly look into this!!!

One other thing to keep in mind, if you find your allergy symptoms seem to be worse, or don't decrease as quickly as they usually would when your allergens are not high. The same areas of tension and head posture I mentioned can also hinder how the sinuses drain (or don't drain) making allergies seem worse during allergy season or they simply seem to last longer than they should.

Thanks for this too....I have have good success with a product by Natrol vitamins which is vitamin C and Quercetin, it really helps decrease the swelling in the sinuses and have been using Neilmed nasal rinse every day for years, this also is very helpful!

Off and on for years I would get a sensation where I would notice my heartbeat more, not faster or pounding or painful I would just notice it more and I finally realized it was from bad posture and shoulder and chest muscle strains and imbalances and found trigger points in the chest area and use a tool I bought from a chiropractor years ago to press on them and also use a lacrosse ball and lean against it on a wall and press, it hurts like heck but the symptoms go away! It drove me nuts for years, thinking "am I having heart issues?" but it wasn't a crushing pain or real painful it was just sore like muscle pain which it was/is!

Thanks again!!!

If it's an electric stove, unplugging it when not in use is also an option.

It's a good idea to put knob covers on gas stoves, too. A cat could turn the knob just far enough for the gas to start seeping out :eek3:

Many newer stoves have knobs where you have to push the knob in and then turn it. If your knobs just turn, definitely put knob covers on and / or consider replacing the stove entirely.

These you have to push down on and then turn, and he must've hit it just right that he did just that!!

I always pull the knobs off the stove when leaving the house and sleeping. Some of our stoves were so old you didn't have to push the knob in to make it work. I didn't think of getting the knob covers which might work better because they will be on and have to be removed to use the stove.
