We have recently added a new furry little guy to our family. He is 2 months old. I would like to know what are some good suggestions for food with high protein and the best for his tummy. Any suggestions? We are currently feeding him Performatrin Kitten Formula

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to TCS!

You could try Dr. Elsey's CleanProtein or Nature's Variety Instinct Kitten. :)

May we see a picture of your little nugget?

Awww, that took me right back to my days with a little pistol of a kitten that looked a lot like your baby, thank you for that memory trip :)

I like earthborn, that one is a little heavy on peas so maybe you could rotate it with another one that doesn't have peas, either every week or when the bag runs out, whichever works for you and your sweetie.

Personally I wouldn't feed it to my cat, as I believe neither fish nor peas are good protein sources for cats. If I had to feed dry, I'd feed dr Elsey or Wysong Epigen 90. If you have a male cat, it's super important to feed him high protein low carb wet food as a base of his diet.

This is all good info!!! I am feeding him now what Pet Supermarket had him on but I am shopping around to make sure he gets what he needs.

Wysong Epigen 90 is a maintenance food for adult cats. It would not be suitable for a growing kitten. A few pieces as a treat would be ok.

For kittens, just feed a variety of kitten and "all life stages" food and both dry and canned. I personally like Nature's Variety. The brand does have a kitten food.

Adding another suggestion. www.youngagainpetfood.com
is excellent food. It’s what I feed my cats. They do have a kitten formula.

It's a good food with two drawbacks that may not appeal to everyone: it's expensive (4 lbs of the kitten food is $25) and it's only sold through the Young Again web site.

Pet stores sell good quality brands these days. Independent pet stores typically have the higher end brands.

It’s not any more expensive than a few other foods. $44.00 for 8 lb bag vs $43.00 for a 6 lb bag of Dr. Elsys Clean Protein .
Yes only buying from the website could be inconvenient for some but It is free shipping. Like you said it is good food.

I realize the following is a controversial opinion, but personally I’d feed my kitten food that has meat protein only rather than the one with plants protein but “formulated for kittens”. I don’t see how in the wild kittens eat different food than the adult cats, more, yes, but different? Having said that, I don’t feed dry (one of my cats is a sworn non drinker) and I wouldn’t say any dry food is truly good because, well, it’s dry, and cats need moisture in their food.

I see what you're saying, I'm going to start introducing wet food and slowly go from there. With the info on this thread I can definitely have an idea of what to do

Recognizing your recognition of this being a controversial position, FWIW, I'll just add that our vet agrees with you: her mantra is basically "meat, meat, meat," which she thinks is especially important for growing kittens' development.
