ok
New cat: over time 10 days cat started eating and stopped. Only licks canned food or salmon juice.
Resident cat only licks cat food or salmon juice. This is new for her.

New cat just came back from the vet with a clear bill of health.

Resident cat has an appointment in two days (soonest).

What can I do to keep them eating until I can get them medicine??

Resident cat lives for food her not eating is shocking!!!

Diarrhea, malaise, no appetite for both.

Yes resident kitty got from new kitty because she insists on eating the leftover food he doesn’t eat. He used to eat everything, now only eats wet food until recently he only licks off wet food or drinks salmon juice.

Short answer: anything they will eat. Go get some meat only (no additives, onion, garlic, etc.) baby food and heat it up ever so slightly to make it nice and smelly. Also try (the inside of) a rotisserie chicken. One member here has a definitive list of things to try and I'm sure they will reply to this thread soon enough.

Good luck!!! When my mom's cat suddenly stopped, she had some ulcers on her tongue that made eating very difficult. The vet said they were viral.

Warning this is gross.
Happened around 1 am about 4 hours after she licked her salmon and canned food.
This was round 2. The first time didn’t have blood.

A bath later, it’s 2 am.

Oh sweet baby. :(

Call your vet, explain, and have them fit you in sooner. If they cant, I personally would take them to the emergency vet.

I called. They don't have anything until tomorrow.
I explained everything, and demanded they treat both cats. They said no guarantees because they just saw the new cat. And they need stool samples from both cats. They don't just give antibiotics.
Tiger is only eating wet or salmon.
Luna is eating now that she is empty.
I have Luna's sample. I have Tiger's sample also. There is a lot in the trash can.
I wish the color of the poop wasn't the same as my carpet. The flecks from Luna's tail are around her heating pad.
I kid you not, I spent a hour washing Luna at 1 am today. It still smells so bad! I got to go clean.
All I can do is wait until tomorrow.

Fingers crossed for your vet visit tomorrow.:crossfingers: If you're still having difficulty getting them to eat here is an Article that is very helpful:
How To Get Your Cat To Start Eating Again
They are eating now. And Tiger put his diarrhea all over the wall and outside of his box. I cleaned a trail all the way to where is sleeps.
Luna, is still having diahrea. She is eating left overs.
When I called the vet, they said to add the fortiflora. I did.
Still diahrea. I don't expect it to work over night.
I am growing cat it's cat grass for them. It is in the beginning stages of course.

I'm cleaning up the damage, getting mentally ready for the vet appt.

I'll let you know what she says.

She requested stool samples. I'm bringing her 12 hours worth.

Oh, and a stray cat, outside, not mine; got into the trash. That cat probley has what these cats have now.

Tiger, when I pet him; he puts his but in the air and lets out this horrible gas. I am trying thunder diffusers and a calming collar for the cat room.

Luna also has a calming collar. It doesn't stop her from getting dihrea and litter in her tail and the back of her feet.

Pray for them, and me. I'm trying to get through my coffee.

We'll be thinking of you at your vet appointment. :grouphug:
I got an anti diahreal agent three times daily. Use fortiflora daily.. Keep using the same cat food. NO MORE canned salmon (human). Use wet cat canned salmon to get them to eat. The stool culture will come back today or tomorrow. A prescription diet maybe necessary for GI symptoms if there is no bugs in the stool. Keep them separated, slow introductions. Treatment options were discussed if an antibiotic is needed.

So, the stool samples come back negative! I told them from the get go, they need antibitotics.
They won't give me any for them.
With the anti diahrea medicine the symptoms have stoped as long as I can get them to take the medicine.
I asked them how long will I have to give them $30 paste 3 times a day?
They said if the diahrea is still happening Monday to call them. I'm not giving these people any more money. I moved vets because of the other one's wife's comments, and the vet also farms. So, it is difficult to get an appointment.
The new vet said it's stress. Can you believe it??
Before the vet, Tiger put diahrea all over the wall, floor, and left tracks to where he sleeps at night. Ya think he is trying to tell the humans something?
I'm so tired of have diahrea to clean off the floor, wall, mats, cat tree, carpet. These 1 am baths have to stop. When this anti diahrea medicine runs out, it's going back to diahrea!! I know it!!
The only good thing that has come out of it, is that Luna is now at a healthy weight.

It could be that they have developed an allergy?
If you go to chewy.com and check out wysom anergen (hipoalergenic food -sort of) you’ll see tons of comments that describe their kitties having lack of apetite, diarrhea, etc, and the food seems to help.
Are they on the same diet as before they got sick or have you changed it?

Thanks for commenting. The resident cat developed diarrhea, not eating, after eating after the new cat from the shelter.
The food has not changed.

Ok
The cat isn’t taking the antibiotics
I got a pill giver thing
No luck called vet
Liquid antibiotics on order
I closed the closet door so it would be easier to catch him
He peed right in front of the door
I had to throw out a heating pad and cover
He doesn’t want anything to do with me since giving him pills
His diarrhea is gone thanks to some of the pill that gets down
It’s Memorial Day weekend
I’m going to call the shelter to see if I cannot exchange him for another cat
I have him away from the $1400 floor I just replaced
Idk I’m at the end of the road
They could tip his ear and set him free is what I suggest
