Marijuana Stench

We moved to a new apartment tonight, so the upheaval of kitty’s normal routine is stress enough. Now it smells as if another tenant in our building is smoking pot. It’s particularly pungent in my bedroom, which is also her main “hub” with all her food and whatnot. Anyway, I know marijuana isn’t good for cats, but can the smell of pot harm them? Not even the smoke, just the smell. I don’t want her being bothered. I noticed her sneeze a couple times and she even hissed twice. She NEVER hisses.

the smoke of the marijuana can harm them, i used to live with someone who smoked it in the house, when i went to work, i could smell it on me, and i kinda felt stoned a bit from breathing it passively. People at work used to make fun of me saying "look over here there is a Pot Plant moving" . I would brush it off.

I would put a cloth near the bottom of the door to or where ever the smoke is coming through.

~ Smoke can be considered a trespass . This inconsiderate pothead neighbor knows better and needs to install a HEPA filter in the 'smoking room'. It would be a good idea for you to get one also for your own bedroom regardless.
I would call the landlord and complain. If you can fib a little say the disturbances interfere with your sleep and aggravate your asthma. If landlord asks "Have you talked to the neighbor?" politely respond "That's your job, not mine. But I may call my attorney if the problem is not solved. "

I don’t think my landlord is going to be much help. He smokes pot himself.

Well it’s not the actual smoke though, just the odor passing through the vent slightly.

Well, this is what I’m saying. There’s no actual smoke coming in. Like, visible smoke. It’s just the stench. Would that be different or the same thing? That’s what’s confusing. Because people keep saying smoke, but it’s just stench. I don’t know if they’re saying that’s the same thing.

It wont do any harm other then stink, I dont like the smell of smoke period, but if its dilluted vapor scent no complaints...Your cats fine

The smell of the pot won't harm them at all. It's similar to cat nip or any other herb.

Now if it was smoke, I'd be concerned because of course, smoke isn't good for anyone to breath in whether pot, cigarette, cigar or pipe.

If you find the odor annoying yourself, and your neighbor obviously isn't going to give up smoking (I'm pro-pot myself so I understand their POV) you can get yourself an air purifier which should help your space. I'd recommend Rabbit Air specifically if you can afford it, because they have a choice of filters for their units one of which is made specifically to help with odors such as smoke. We have 2 of them for my allergies and they are truly a life saver. I'd imagine the filter for odors works equally as good.

Edit: PS, I'd think the hissing is more related to the recent move and feeling out of sorts with the new space and all. I'd think your cat would settle down in a day or so once they get used to the new home.
