We did have one confirmed tornado in our county early Monday morning. Trees were torn out of the ground, people lost homes and barns. Rick and I sat up Monday morning during the storm because of the lightning; the last time we had seen lightning that like was when the tornado ripped through Allenwood, PA and hit my aunt's house.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked four miles, and got ready for work
  • I have a planning commission meeting after work tonight
  • Must scoop the boxes
And then I'm calling an early night tonight

today i've made two liters of soda, washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, and sliced/wrapped/labeled and now is in the freezer the two pans of jalapeno sausage and scalloped potatoes i baked yesterday. i also had a firewood delivery this afternoon -- 8 1/2 face cords of 'slab' wood, in a pile in my driveway.

i've watched some tv already, and will play some computer games and get started on that new jigsaw puzzle this evening.

thank you! :D it really is quite spicy sausage, and does nicely with potatoes.

today i'll wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, move firewood and start stacking the new load of it. it's also 'salon day' for my 3 cats, claw trimming day. :catlove: i'm sure i'll come across other things needing doing too.

It's Thursday and I have a long weekend coming up! :yess: That's the good thing. The bad thing? It's pretty much going to rain all bloody weekend. :censored: We've got a lot to get done outside in the next few weeks.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked three miles, had to get the printer figured out....Rick was working on union reports last night and couldn't get the printer to print. He said he tried to wake me up, but I refused to budge (I don't remember any of it), so I had to get it all straightened out this morning. Mission accomplished, thankfully, and he's back in business. And I got ready for work. (I said to him, "Dear? If you hit the PRINT button once or twice and it doesn't print, there's a good chance that hitting the PRINT button 7 or 8 times isn't going to make it print either! All it's going to do is print out tons of copies when I do get it working again!" He looked at me, smiled kind of sheepishly, and said, "Well, I can always hope!" I did get the other copies deleted, so it was OK. But I have to smile at his wishful thinking. Been there.)
  • I received some papers from Unlimited Sheds that I needed to sign. Got them via email yesterday, signed everything, scanned it all, and emailed it back this morning. We're now officially on their schedule and the lead time has now been decreased to 3-6 weeks. We have a lot of work that we need to get done outside! Oy!
  • Must do the inevitable scoop tonight. Rick is bowling early, so I'll probably play some Nintendo. I think Supernatural is new tonight. And I still have one load of laundry (it's just sweats) that I have to do.
And he just found out that he's going to Vegas in a few weeks for union stuff. Grrrrrr :frustrated: Sometimes.....

Well, dang. I fell asleep in the middle of Supernatural last night. How Jack got into the box is beyond me, but I saw him get out! I'll have to watch it online this weekend.

I finally did reach a tree-weenie. He's going to give me a call and meet me at the house some day next week. I'll just take my lunch break whenever he calls. Tree-weenies are really busy right now with all the trees that came down from last Monday morning's storm. Everywhere you look are downed trees.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked a couple miles, scooped the boxes, finally threw that load of sweats into the washer.
  • Not much planned outside today, if anything; I think it's to start raining sometime this morning, followed by a steady rain this afternoon into tonight. We're in a Flash Flood Watch. It's getting windy again, too. We really need to mow. I had told Rick that if he got the mower started for me last night, I would have mowed while he was bowling, but he didn't feel like dealing with the mower....it doesn't always want to start right away.
  • I'll probably do a quick vacuum and swiffer around the house. Tonight I'll make a batch of pickled red beet eggs for Sunday. They need to be made a couple days ahead of time, so they "pickle".
So we're really not doing much today. The weather has everything all messed up. Again.

a very welcome day of household stuff to do today, after yesterdays efforts. i made a decent 'dent' in the pile of firewood yesterday, along with a bunch of other things that got done. it's on and off raining here today, so i'll be concentrating on other things needing doing.

i've moved some hot (spicy) ham to the fridge to thaw, sliced into bite-sized chunks that second cantaloupe, and have scooped the litter boxes.

this afternoon, i'll pre-measure for the Pineapple Upside Down Cake that i'll be baking tomorrow (recipe here, for those who might be interested -- pineapple upside-down cake ), wash the dishes, and likely will make two liters of soda.

i also have some planning i need to continue with, maybe before the afternoon chores, or maybe after them.

once those things are done, i'll play some computer games, continue with a jigsaw puzzle, and watch some tv.

So do I. Good cake!

We had another deluge of rain yesterday evening and into the night with a couple rumbles of thunder. I swear I didn't know that this was considered tropical rainforest.....I thought I lived in central PA.

But we ripped through the yard yesterday morning and early afternoon and managed to get the entire yard mowed in one go. Rick told me, "If you're going to dawdle at 2, I'll mow. If you're going to zip through at 4, you can mow. But move!" So while I was zipping through the yard with the speed cranked up, he was push-mowing around trees. It sprinkled quite a few times, but we figured we were out there and we weren't quitting til we were done. Not that it matters; with the rain we're getting, we'll have to mow again in a couple of days.
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, I walked a mile or so, then decided I really need coffee, so here I am. Rick will scoop when he gets up from his morning nap.
  • Banking, grocery store run: I need a few things for dinner tomorrow
  • While Rick works outside, I'm going to do the chores in the house that I didn't get done yesterday. I need to get a seven-layer salad together, make a lemon meringue pie, and get some hot cross buns done.
  • We're visiting with Rick's mother tonight, hence the need to do the hot cross buns. She won't be amused if I show up without those dratted buns!
I was supposed to make Easter dinner tomorrow for my girlfriend and her husband. My GF called me yesterday to tell me that her oxygen level bottomed out and she was admitted to hospital again. She's to be discharged on Monday. Some other friends are taking care of her husband as he can't be alone.

Went to water my community garden plot at 8:00, somebody came by yelling that there was free compost at the Laguna Hills Highschool but to come soon as they close at 10:00. So off I went and got 15 bags of it in my trunk and on the backseat. I could feel the load as I was driving but it was only ca. 3 miles away so no big deal. Unloaded the bags into plot and then watered the garden. I already have flowers: one digitalis (foxglove), several bearded iris and some strange colored amaryllis.
I still have lettuce and Swiss chard, the onions are trying to bloom but I cut those off as I want them to bulb out,

one bunch of grape buds

the grapes have lots of buds so it looks like there will be a nice harvest, I just hope that those will be ripe before I leave at the end of July. There will probably be a second harvest and my garden buddy can have those, hopefully he will be allowed to take over the garden when I leave. If the first harvest is ready by July 20 I will put all those grapes into gallon jars and let them ferment, I will take the jars with me and make wine once I am settled in my new home in Reno, NV. If not then I will have to wait until I get new stakes next January from my garden buddy, plant those and wait another year before I have grapes again. Oh well.
When I finally got home around 11:30 I made myself breakfast? brunch? (the kitties had gotten theirs before I left, those cats are SPOILED!) and settled down with a bit of CNN, then emptied the dishwasher and took a nap. Watered all outside and inside plants, did 2 loads of laundry and put that away and then lazed for the rest of the day.

segelkatt segelkatt Your flowers are gorgeous! I'm jealous of your garden. Kudos on the free compost.

I bottomed out late Saturday morning with a migraine. I was in the kitchen and my vision got wonky. Ended up in bed for a couple of hours. I did get back up to run our errands and get some house work done in the afternoon and do those buns. We visited with my GF in the hospital, then took some hot cross buns in for Rick's mom last night. No pie or salad yet, so I need to do them this morning. I'll need to get the ham in the oven, too. I still have the headache, but it's not as bad as it was yesterday. Right now, I'm just really tired; the pain was so bad last night that I couldn't sleep. The last time I looked at the clock, it was 1:30.
  • Breakfast for the kids, emptied the dishwasher, Rick stripped the bed and put the sheets in the washer. We have three loads of laundry this morning. Rick will scoop when he gets up from his morning nap.
  • I have the lemons out on the counter to come to room temp and my eggs are separated for the pie. I baked the pie shell while the Keurig was on. I'll throw the pie together, then clean all the veggies for my seven layer salad and throw that together: lettuce, onion, celery, carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, one green pepper, one red pepper, a good handful or so of frozen peas. After I "frost" the salad with the dressing, I'll add a thin layer of shredded Cheddar. Normally I add bacon and hard-boiled eggs, but we have pickled eggs, and we have ham for dinner. So I think we're good.
  • When we come back from dinner with my sister, I'm probably going to call it an early night.

I found out that the striped amaryllis is rather rare and considered exotic, it is called Papilion Butterfly and has the largest bulbs, it also readily makes new bulbs. I will dig up all my bulbs in July and let them dry out and they will come with me to Reno. So will some of my potted plants but none of the big ones, some of which are over 10 years old.

This morning (after breakfast for me and the kitties and after taking stuff to the recycling bin) I loaded 3 big plants from my patio and from in front of my door into my car to be taken to my garden buddy's home later on today. One went in the trunk, I laid it down with a garbage bag over the pot so I won't have soil all over the trunk, it barely fit slaunchwise as it is 4 ft tall including pot. Another 5-footer went in the backseat, also laid down, a garbage bag over the pot, with the top reaching into the front passenger seat where I put the back down as far as it would go, and a shorter but wider plant on the front seat. All of these plants are too big to go with me. After these have been delivered we'll go back to my place and pick up more but smaller plants although they also are not small, geraniums mostly and they are in bloom right now.

All of the following ones are eventually going to find a new home on my buddy's patio, 3 of them are already in the car. His wife is in Taiwan right now and she won't be back until after May 15. Right now there is one sad-looking Scheffeleria on the patio, a wrought-iron table and 2 chairs and a chair from Ikea, nothing else. She will be pleasantly surprised to have all that greenery to look at, when she left there was only the one plant, not even the furniture, no place to sit. Now she will have a nice place to sit outside with a friend or her husband and have a cup of tea.

I am glad to have this off my mind. If Jim had not taken these plants they would have ended up in the trash, what a shame. Now they will make someone else happy, none of them are hard to take care of, not in this climate.

I will load the dishwasher in a bit, then make my bed, run the rake over the carpet to get rid of cat hair, go through mail which probably all will be discarded and recycled and then just wait until this afternoon to move plants. Jim is in church but I don't celebrate so this is just another day. Jim's sons also are just staying home with their families in L.A. and he did not feel like going there as he does not drive that far or on the freeway and would have to take the train or an Uber.

Absolutely lovely, segelkatt segelkatt . The geraniums are gorgeous. One of the things I'm really looking forward to with the shed is having a place for plants. I've missed having plants in the house, but plants and cats do not mix. I'm hoping that Mollipop behaves herself with the plants in the shed. I'm really glad you took those plants.

I've been dealing with this blasted headache now off and on since late Saturday morning. It comes, it goes, it comes back. Yesterday I felt fairly decent, now today it's back with a vengeance. I think it's from the humidity and pressure.
  • Breakfast for the kids, walked 3 miles, I had to scoop the boxes (forgot last night), and got ready for work. It didn't help that we overslept a bit; Ms. Pepe decided to sleep in til 5:15 this morning (she's our alarm clock and she's usually up bright and early, screaming her lungs out for breakfast).
  • Scoop the boxes and do a quick vacuum about the house
That might be pretty much it. It depends on how I feel.

Winchester Winchester Sorry about that headache. I hope it leaves soon.

  • Boxes
  • Tea x 2
  • Let the girls out for a bit but Big Cal got frightened of the garbage truck and didn't stay out long. She wanted back out but is back in again because of the rain. I made a quasi tent to keep Vincie's ottoman dry so she can sleep on it even if if it rains.
