Speaking of which...I'm trying to broaden my horizons and figure out something to do with Brussels sprouts that would make them taste like something a human would willingly eat.
I hate Brussels Sprouts, but it "may" be because I've only ever boiled them.
The Secret To Making Brussels Sprouts Taste Way Better

Do let us know if you find a way to prepare them that "make them taste like something a human would willingly eat".

i'll have two sweet italian sausages, a microwaved potato with margarine and salt/pepper, and will cook a 'handful' of brussel sprouts -- i was gifted two quarts of beautiful ones! :D

i love brussel sprouts......little mini 'cabbages'! :redheartpump: i'll be boiling mine, then a little margarine and salt/pepper on them.

a really tasty way to make brussel sprouts is to boil them until tender but still a little crunch to them. drain them, then fry in a pan with some bacon grease. :yummy:

You can roast Brussels sprouts. Roasting vegetables makes them sweeter. Rick would never, ever eat Brussels sprouts; he was forced to eat them as a kid and he remembered. He said he made it about halfway up the stairs to his bedroom before his supper came back up. His mom was furious. And that was that for Brussels sprouts. Until I started roasting them. He eats them if I roast them. But that's it.

Rick has a dental appt this morning, so we'll probably just do some kind of soup tonight.

Yes, roasted Brussels Sprouts are yummy! I just toss them in olive oil and balsamic vinegar (little salt, pepper, and garlic powder...or any herbs you like) and roast them in the oven 'til they're caramelized. Just shake the pan about every 15 minutes until they're as brown as you'd like.

I've been cooking a lot more the past two weeks and trying out new recipes. Some of the hits have been:

This Rosemary chicken salad -

Rosemary Chicken Salad with Avocado and Bacon

We've actually had it three times!

Chicken and avocado soup -

Chicken and Avocado Soup

I had to add more heat to it.

This giant turkey meatball:

Giant Turkey Meatball Parmesan

I added extra garlic and Italian seasoning.

Cauliflower colcannon -

Creamy Cauliflower Mash with Kale (Low-Carb Colcannon)

This was surprisingly good.

Tonight? Tonight I think we may be going out to eat or getting takeout.

I wondered how they would be shredded, then lightly sauteed with either almonds or pecan or walnut pieces in bacon grease...any thoughts?
My two favorite Brussels sprouts recipes -

Recipes - Side Dishes And Vegetables

Warm Brussel Sprout Salad

Ingredients:
4T. Butter
3T. Lemon Juice
3 C. Shaved Brussel Sprouts
2T. Shallots, Finely Minced
1/2 C. Peeled, Grated Celery Root
2 T. Toasted Crushed Walnuts
1/4C. Grated Parmesan
Salt and Pepper to Taste

Directions:
In a large saute pan over high heat, cook butter until brown. Add shallots, celery root, and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper, let that all cook 10-20 seconds and add Brussel sprouts. Mix thoroughly and remove from heat. Serve immediately with crushed walnuts and parmesan.

Yield: 2 People

This meal is also delicious. I add extra garlic -

I remember Paula Deen made a sandwich out of a glazed donut. I'll have to find the recipe. I can't remember if it had bacon on it, but it looked good. :yummy:
When I was a kid I made a sandwich, and used two donuts as bread. I think the middle was another donut, come to think of it.
We liked those sausage patties so well we're just going to repeat our own menu tonight because when we find something we like, we write it down, stick with it, and share
I felt all jolly and happy this afternoon so the cats got an extra snack of chicken hearts and goat milk. Dinner for them is thawing, plain boring ground turkey with chicken livers that will be dosed with some premix.

Papa John's pizza and they gave us the wrong toppings. I'm a bit cranky over it. :bawling:
Crap, what did they give you? Hopefully not anchovies.......unless that's what you wanted ;)
Never ask for a pizza to have quadruple cheese on top of more cheese unless you want a piece of bread floating in a 6 inch cheese topping topped with grease. Dang, that was an artery clogger.

We did a half & half pizza, and they completely messed it up. I just wanted what I wanted on my half, you know? It made me cranky.
Half cheese for you, half bonito flakes for Demi? ;);)
I went through a fast food joint once and ordered a Coke, no ice. I repeated "no ice" about 40 times (it dilutes the rare Coke I drink and waters it down, and makes it all gross).
I got my Coke, drove away, and there was about 200 pounds of ice in it and I am not proud but I threw a regular old hissy fit, I said so many swears on the way home I think my ears are still ringing 30 years later :flail:

Last night we had good old Missouri comfort food...ham and beans and cornbread. So good!Tonight we had cheeseburgers and oven baked fries...also yummy! We don't eat burgers all that often...sometimes we just get a craving. My two cents on brussel sprouts...we eat them often.Sometimes I use frozen and sometimes fresh when I can find nice ones, but I always roast them.I make a sort of hash on a sheet pan with the sprouts cut in half,a chunked apple or 2,chunked butternut squash,an onion ,crumbled bacon and a little olive oil.I toss them after half an hour or so,and when they're done,I drizzle with a balsamic glaze.A real hit with my family.

We ordered some food from the Olive Garden last week and my brother picked it up. They charged us for my Minestrone soup but they did not include it with the rest of the food. I was more than a little cranky. My brother would not go back to get the soup but at least I had a salad to eat.
