She keeps surprising me!

Canidae Wildwood Fields Turkey and Turkey Liver Entree in Gravy.

I picked up a can of this to try with her the next time she got picky. Well, that's now. Natural flavors and agar-agar are the only ingredients that concern me. It's worth a trial right now. I gave her a couple of spoonfuls and she didn't just lick the gravy but eat the flakes too. She cleaned the plate. It wasn't much but small victories. Hopefully this sits well with her or that may be the last time she eats that food. But if it does sit well, I prefer she eats this to tuna.

That would be a nice change for the both of us to have another food she can eat.
:crossfingers:

Also the bupe seems to be working out well for her.

Gah! It seems I chose a discontinued food. Doesn't that just figure! I guess I'll be making the store runs to see if there's any remaining stock to get us through until she likes Rawz or raw again.

So, what exactly did the Vet SAY about her mouth? Did he find anything suspicious in there? I saw your other thread asking about removing her last canine, but you indicated that it's still healthy. If they are planning on doing something on Tuesday, what will they be doing?

Krista was being a fuss. She was hissing and would have bit. Even after I gave her a pre-visit bupe. She wasn’t going to let Dr in her mouth. We’ll find out Tues what needs to be done after she’s sedated. I don’t know if the canine is healthy. She’s already needed three removed. But I think it might be an incisor this time. I got a very brief peek and I maybe saw one out of place. Or maybe not. I’m no cat dentist and I got less than a brief peek.

I see. So it may just be exploratory. Does she have a history of FORLs or stomatitis or anything like that?

Ohhh......I am so sorry! With my Kelsie, when I got her back to the Vet's for her teeth (It was a partner, not the original Vet), the Vet said Kelsie had open sores in her mouth now. She said it is an auto-immune thing. But often, when the offending infection/inflammation is removed from the mouth, the open sores disappear.... She scheduled the teeth extractions for the next day. The sores stayed in Kelsie's mouth for about 4 months post-op, then as the gums healed from the extractions, the open sores healed too. But, like I said, the new Vet had seen where there were some tiny (and larger) tooth chunks left from the previous extractions..... She was definitely in pain, when I brought her into this Vet. The Shelter I got her from didn't have the money to take her in/out of there regularly, so they were trying to use some type of medicine (possibly a Steroid) to reduce inflammation for her, in her mouth. Nothing would have worked, because those tooth chunks are considered to be 'foreign objects' by the body, when there is no root left of that tooth.
I really do hope she feels so much better soon. The teeth thing is, and can be a real problem with them and the worst thing is, they just cannot tell us what is going on with them!!! :(

Yes. History of resorptive lesions.

Probably not exploratory. Once sedated, they’ll be able to do a visual inspection and mouth films. It should be apparent which tooth/teeth are bothering her.

She had extractions last year. She had extractions last month. And then a couple days later they sedated her again to put a feeding tube in her (she had a few things going on besides teeth) and while under, they found tooth fragments to remove so they did that too. I trust them to do as good a job as any non-specialist. If I can get her a break from sedation for a month or three, maybe we can visit a specialist to see if we should get proactive with the rest of her remaining teeth.

Found 9 more cans of Canidae. Which probably means she's done with this food now. That's how it always is when I stock up.
:whiskers:

Tiki Cat Tuna with Pumpkin, not so much tonight.

Pure Bites Tuna in Water still a hit. So I mixed that with the Canidae. I believe she ate a respectable amount even if it was mostly tuna. We still have a mess of turkey, tuna, pumpkin slop to revisit in a few hours.

She's a trooper!

Round two. Not bad.
:petcat:

We'll probably need a round three to finish the plate. But she's starting to perk up a bit now that she's getting nutrition in her and a regular bupe schedule. She's begging for fish flakes. I wish they had more substance but have as many as you want. They stimulate her appetite. I sometimes tell her it's time to eat by putting out the flakes first and getting her mouth watering and her stomach primed.
:dancingblackcat:

I sprinkled a tiny amount of Cosequin into her food. I want her moving well again without the poop and soup of the GlycoFlex Plus.

She's going to be eating underweight for the next few days but at least she's eating something. I don't know how much I can expect from her depending on how bad her mouth is. Even with the bupe she still winces. Tuesday needs to fix her up because she's getting really skinny again. :( And I dread the thought of having to put her through another round of antibiotics.

Still pooping soup. Still poopfooting! For the consistency, it could smell a lot worse than it does. I think it was the last of the tiki mousse topper I gave her yesterday morning before the carpet poop.

On the other paw, she's waking me for food!

It takes awhile, but we manage to get through a decent serving size (even if it's still more tuna than turkey.) We'll try tuna with pumpkin later. I will also offer her a touch of clay in tuna water to dry up her stools.

What I won't be trying again is the lithothanium (seaweed calcium.) I think that was behind both the voluminous liquid barfs and the extreme thirst on Friday. We have not had a repeat of either since.

Not quite the last of the soup poops.

Poor girl. I've got her eating Tiki Cat Ahi Tuna on one plate and Tiki Cat Tuna with pumpkin on another. The tuna with pumpkin plate has not been adulterated but the Ahi Tuna plate has some probiotic and a touch of clay. Either plate, she's getting some booty support. So far, I think the tuna with pumpkin plate is winning. I'm okay with this.

New game I wish I didn't have to play:

Stick my nose right up against a sleeping Krista, "did you do your booty duty? did you clean your poopfoot?"

Thanks! It's a huge relief that she's eating on her own. I wish she was eating more higher calorie foods but I'll take what I can get.

She would need to eat 4 cans of this tuna with pumpkin.

She would only need to eat 2 cans of the Canidae but she only wants this mixed with tuna right now.

She would need to eat 7 (!!) Pure Bites tuna in water treat pots. She would too!

I didn't tally how much the carpet or the sink ate but I think we got 80% of the Canidae can in her. Add two treat pots and she got as much as 150 calories yesterday. That may be on the high side. She probably ate 30 calories on Friday and Saturday. So yes, I'll take 150. I'd prefer >200.

I hope she goes back to Rawz or raw after this. Because like Rad Cat, she seems to have found another discontinued food (Canidae) she enjoys now.

Shoot! The agar-agar in the Canidae may be causing Krista's poop soups. I guess it's a good thing that she's not as enthusiastic about it now. Tiki Cat Ahi Tuna is her jam. Even more than Pure Bites treat tuna. I'm okay with that. The Ahi Tuna is 75 cal/can while the PB is 30 calories/pot (80 g vs 50 g) I like to feed at least as many calories as grams just to make the math easy and to feel like I'm not feeding mostly water (even if it is mostly water.) In that case, the Tiki is falling short but not as short as the tuna with pumpkin. But the Canidae doesn't count if she's pooping out those calories before she can use them. I sure hope tomorrow's procedures fixes her up again for Rawz and raw because I don't think she can eat enough Tiki to put the pounds back on.

Ugh! Still soupy poops! No more Canidae! She needs to be fixed up for Rawz and raw again.
