My cat went back to eating Blue Buffalo. He ate three big cans. Well, small amounts each serving. I was so excited. I went and bought a few more cans. Well, he changed his mind. Ugh! The vet did say that this is part of the infection. I guess the plus side is he is eating some. But, very small amounts. I bought these fancy feast chicken treats. He seems to like those. Obviously he can't have just those. But, the vet said, right now something is better than nothing. He goes back for his follow up in a couple weeks.

I am concerned that this infection may have affected him mentally. Every once in a while his back legs move funny when he walks and he will kind of move in slow motion. I really hope these antibiotics are working! I really appreciate everyone's advise. I don't think it's time yet to think about putting him to sleep. But, I guess that is a question we are going to have to ask the vet. We have to think how much all these treatments are going to cost and about his quality of life. I guess I have heard that once they stop using their litter box it is time. But, he is still using his box well and acts as smart as he ever did!

Try feeding him Fancy Feast Chicken Gravy. It has a lot of liquid so he will probably like it. Cats really can't say no to Fancy Feast. Also sometimes its possible to give your cats too much antibiotics. This is just from my own personal experience. Try giving mixing a little probiotic powder into his food to see if that helps.

My cat is stressing me out. He is 11yrs old and has gotten extremely picky. He will not eat dry food at all anymore. He started eating wet food about a year ago. I have switched between Blue and Iams chicken. It looks like shredded chicken. He was eating that like crazy. But, now he only licks the gravy. He later turns his nose up on a lot of the Blue flavors now. Or sometimes after the throws up a flavor he will stop eating it. I feel so bad because he sits by his food dish like he is hungry. The only thing he will eat is plain chicken breast or pork. He also eats some treats made by Friskies. Any suggestions on what I can try? I read to try sprinkling catnip on the food and that did not work! Ugh! I am sure he is picking up on my frustration! Thank you!

I was told by another member that Fancy feast gravy was not the best and that the classic lines are the better. Also, someone posted that BFF pate was good for picky cats. Anyway, hope this helps.

Yes,appetite stimulents should help. My cat loves gravy, especially if it's fishy. I pour some of that over. I use Weruva or tiki for a topper. Expensive but one can will last a few days.i bought Caru chicken bone broth on chewy.

Yes Fancy Feast pates are best because they don't have wheat gluten in them. The "Classic" pates are pretty decent food.

You might have seen my mention of the new BFF pates, A Applecat : our picky cat likes them pretty well. (At least the first three cans, who knows how things will go after this!)

Well, the good news is Mo is eating a little better. Bad news is I feel like this kidney infection has affected other things. He seems to favor one front paw over the other. He seems confused at times. He doesn't really want to hang out with us. He just sleeps in his bed. I feel like he is a little unsteady when he walks. I am afraid we might not have him for too much longer. I am sure this will require some sort of special tests that we cannot afford. Seems like that the last couple days he has been really depressed. Do cats get depression? It is going to break my heart the day we have to say goodbye. I feel like that day is going to be sooner than we want to hear. He has a follow up appointment next week. I guess we will know more then. :(

Please keep us posted. Eating better is good, and antibiotics do also have side effects--though I have not heard of unsteadiness as one. I do think cats can get depressed, plus they feel vulnerable when sickly, I think.

Mo had his follow up visit. I was hoping that him eating more was a sign that he was getting better. The vet said it is good that he is eating more. He has even gained a little more weight. But, this thyroid is still high. They are changing his medicine to a higher dosage. I feel like the pills are helping. He has only thrown up a couple times since being on his pills. I curious to know how many more tests we should put our cat through? Should we just let him live his life how he is right now? We haven't even addressed his kidney's or teeth yet. The vet wants to get his thyroid down first.

My cat is also very picky. She can only eat pate, with chunky or flaked food she just licks all the gravy and leaves the meat behind. For years I put canned Weruva in the blender. However, there are some new products that have changed our lives. Both Weruva and Tiki Cat now make wet food in a pouch, Speedy loves them. It isn't pate, it is more like mousse or a whipped pudding. You might give it a try, it is so easy to eat and it might be easier on your cat's teeth.

BTW I also warm it up a little bit and elevate the bowl, she's elderly and has a hard time crouching down on the floor to eat. And I follow her. Speedy often eats only a few bites and walks away, but if I follow her and offer her the bowl again, she seems to think it's something new and eats more.
