*hugs* Yes, slowly the puzzle is taking color, but I swear it's a mood ring puzzle as the colors keep changing!

---------------

Merry belated Christmas and Happy New year! I'm sorry I've not been around. I've had my hands seriosuly full with the kitties.

Update: Charlie got sick for a few days. He had trouble keeping his food down so I've been watching that. The past 48 hours he seems to be okay. We're staying the course for his anti-biotics and watching. His appetite is okay still. Some days not so great, others hungry. His dry food seems to be bothering him. His appointment for the needle in the bladder (Cystocentesis) is set for the 28th first thing in the morning. His meds will be finished on the 22nd.

He's a bit depressed the last day or two. That's making me a bit depressed.

Good news: Mia is being a bit brave - she discovered if she goes to the very top of her tree she can look out the window - YAY - and a few times she's ventured up two flights of stairs to the bedroom area exploring. Only a couple times though, but that's still something.

Braveheart - she has this bad rash, hair loss and I have no idea what happened. It could be an allergic reaction to a new blanket - so I took that away and washed her other ones. It could be what I've fed her as I've been trying to add various foods (new) in small amounts mixed with her normal food. (Same with W.L and Mia) so they don't get finicky like Charlie. It could be from a fight. It could be stress. She has an appointment with the vet on the 14th if it doesn't clear up. *sigh* I've been gently washing the area with Chamomile tea to help sooth her. It seems to help. It's mostly on her underbelly by the legs and a small but on her neck that feel like puncture wounds. He fur is otherwise very soft and healthy.

W.L. seems to have very dry skin so I'm going to look at getting some Salmon oil to add to the food.

I'm a bit depressed as sometimes I think I've saved the other three at Charlies expense and that he will never be happy and that makes me really, really sad.... but I keeping hoping that it's temporary and he'll realize there is enough room and enough love etc for everyone and that having companions is a good thing. I'd settle for peace and being able to trust them all with the run of the house 24/7.

I've not had time, as you can imagine, with all this to keep up here atm. Hopefully I can relax soon and get caught up here this week / weekend. I've really missed everyone badly.

Edit to add: Night time they are still all separated. The girls downstairs, Charlie up as he simply can't be trusted. One second he's nice and okay with them - the next I worry someone's going to get hurt as he doesn't know when to leave well enough alone.

I've also - admittedly had fleeting thoughts that maybe the girls would be better off re-homed but I know that's most likely not true and even if it might be - with the health issues and age - likely not possible so I have to hope and pray that it all works out.

Hey! Missed you! Glad you checked in. I know you are down but reading it all..... it really isn’t worse. It’s definitely a continuation that wears you down but some kitty progress! Feeling like this huh?:seesaw:You really shouldn’t feel guilty in relation to Charlie. Even if the girls weren’t there he would have problems due to his health issues. Sometimes we all get grouchy if we are getting poked and prodded and just tired of going to doctors. I personally have done that.:livid: Stop poking me or I’m gonna poke the next person I see!

The fur thing is something I am dealing with too. Yep! I think with mine ( when I say mine, I mean the cats, not me) it is an allergy to flea bites. It only takes one to start a reaction. I found a kitten at my front door and did two things. I brought her in ( yes I gave her a Capstar immediately but a flea could have escaped) and I took her to the vet. Dog gone it! Seems like every time I take one to the vet, well...... let’s just say, somebody at the vet office has fleas. Wonder if it’s the vet? :flail:Hope not but I do suspect that going from one animal to another they could pick up a hitchhiker! Anyway, dealing with it here too. Maybe you and I both need to drink some Chamomile?

Several of my cats spent a couple of days throwing up. Hmmmmm. Don’t know why but it stopped as quickly as it started. Scared me for a minute. Now I am wondering about the clothes washing powder I had used. Ran out of my usual and grabbed a couple of samples I had on hand. I have rewashed everything and tossed the samples. Also could have just been something coming in the air from outside. We had flooding around here big time. Lots of molds and Mildew near the swamp with 99% humidity on a dry day! On flood days everything stays damp. Including us! I’ve got heat and fans trying to dry the air inside but it’s been hot outside! Winter, and we’re sweltering. The cats like the heaters at least! I’m sitting in front of the fan but they still love to curl up in front of a heater every time! I have to use a heating pad on my back or I wouldn’t go near it but they ALL want to lay on it year round. They can’t all have achy bones!

You aren’t alone in the spooked cat thing either. As I write, BJ is out of his house and hiding under the sofa. :ohwell: I was cleaning his house and he just got nervous. Once under the sofa he felt safe and every time I reach under to get him he decides to eat me. Just for fun. I tried moving the sofa to get to him for petting and calming but he just laughed at me and scored under it where I had moved it. BJ!!!! Really?!?!? Yesterday you were a sweet lap cat! He isn’t fond of me carrying him. Holding is great but carrying , not so much. Maybe the look on his face would make you feel better. Here!

BJ no like carrying! BJ not baby kitten. Oh the indignity of it all....... humans!

If you didn’t laugh at that photo, call 911 cuz you must have done this.:thud:You are not alone. I hope something here made you smile at least once. XOXO

Nearing the end of his medication - *knock on wood* Looking good. Charlie's pee in the litter looking lighter so I am hoping this means the blood has cleared up and maybe the bacteria too! He's all scheduled for the 28th - waiting with bated breath in the hopes that we get a full recovery. Then all of my questions come about re-occurrence and the dread - *GASP* food trial.

Hey! Missed you! Glad you checked in. I know you are down but reading it all..... it really isn’t worse. It’s definitely a continuation that wears you down but some kitty progress! :-) xoxoxox

True - it's the wearing down. It is very much like a sea-saw - you are totally right. Charlie is just such a territorial guy. He's now learned how to hop up where W.L sleeps - pisses her off - she hides behind the couch growling at him and I think "dude! do you not understand what she is saying?!" Then he sits on the couch and waits for her. *sigh*

B.H is the one I get concerned with - holy cow. She lets out this scream, seriously - a scream - if he gets too close and again I think "Dude! Do you not understand that she will cut you if you continue!" and "Chhhhaaaarrlliieeee. No. Don't do that mister." and I watch carefully and hope there is no fight. So far no bloodshed - please let it stay that way - but I keep a close watch when I see that. He seems to not go closer after she screams - but I watch carefully as I don't want him to push her boundary as I know she means business.

He's def getting warning shots from them but doesn't seem to clue in that this is not a safe situation and to Back off. *sigh* I keep hoping one day he'll give the bad behavior up. I'm trying to find new ways to exhaust him as he does have a lot of energy and I think that's part of the issue. I think another part is that area doesn't smell enough like him. If I can 1. Merge the scents a bit more and 2. get him played out enough - that might help.

Yes - him not being 100% certainly doesn't help. He still sleeps beside my head at night and I remind him that "see - you've not been kicked out. You are still my baby."

Seems you and I are suffering the same kitty afflictions for sure! B.H seems to be healing. More and more I'm thinking it was a fight based on where the spots are... throat and ear that look like punctures and lower belly, leg area. It would have been with one of her sisters. I'm still keeping a very watchful eye.

Yes -I often wonder too about taking them into the vets what little hitchhikers might come home with them!

*hands you some Camomile tea* Sets some out ready for when furballs mom and Kflowers pop by.

We have a wet cold here and humid summers, so I understand about that. It is lucky cats like heat!

For you - it might be the washing powder in combination maybe? Cats really don't like change of any kind, do they?! ;-)

You guys always make me feel better. Thank you :-) I am not alone!!!! :-) Yes, I smiled!

We missed you too :)
I think you're ok, you don't need to re-home them.
You're doing an awesome job of handling it all!!
XOXOXOXOXO thank you!

I needed to hear that. Re-homing is not an option... every now and again I just feel awful for them and think someone would do better for them or that they'd be happier elsewhere. That's exaustion thinking no doubt.

All children have their moments and sometimes they are extended periods of time. A friend often sent her human child to me for the day for a “ time out”! Too bad that won’t work with cat! Although we have considered a kitty camp. Boots and mitten camp! Lol Honestly, I think we need time at camp ourselves. I could use a little canoe trip or some hiking!
BJ sends his purrs to Charlie! Two of a kind!
I’m glad to hear that Brave Heart is on the mend! Maybe snipping cat claws is in everyone’s future?!?!?
My kitty seemed to be allergic to an “improved” form of our usual cat litter. Aaaaarrrggghhh! Some improvement! Fur is growing back though.
White Label is being bullied. Cats will do that! I still think it is a combination of things with Charlie. Feeling poopy, still adjusting to the others to make sure they know he is top cat and just plain jealous. I have noticed with BJ adjusting that he mostly tries to eat me when he is nervous about the other cats. He accepts some but is frightened by others. I have another cat, Precious, that is even worse about it and aggressive when upset. I put him in his safe haven every time an argument starts and he calms immediately. It’s just a cage in the same room as the others but to him, It’s his house. Has Charlie got a safe house where you can give him a time out period? It might help. Sometimes if many cats get skittish, I put a lot of them in their safe place at once. Peace on earth happens! Lol It’s their own private space and everyone knows it. I close their door but don’t latch it. They come back out when they want to. You might have to latch it in the beginning to let them know that no one can get in but once they all know the rules, it really has worked here. Of course my house looks a little odd!

This is my great room. Great for cats! Not so much for me! Lol

Each cage or carrier has a blanket or some form of cover to provide a secure feeling. Only one has a cat in it right now but they are there if anyone wants to go have privacy. Whistle and Flowers will actually shut their own door when they go in! :flail:

There is a cat laying on top of this cage. Just noticed the furry feet! That is my old girl Smokey. She gets in that box beside her which is just a cover for a litter box. She doesn’t like it on the litter box but loves it as a cover over her bed!:dunno:

@Beyond Confused please read page 10 post 187 by Jcatbird Jcatbird about dealing with rowdy cats. The important part for you is the paragraph beginning White Label. I think what she says is really important and I'm down a finger for typing.

Charlie Update: So Charlie finished his last meds on Tuesday. He did his 6 weeks of medication like a champ! Other than a tiny bit of weight loss, and that couple of days where he barfed, he's doing great. I'm hoping the 28th test shows that he is doing great. I'll have to wait another week after that for those results though. *fingers crossed*

Mia: Not too much more progress there but working on it. I'm getting a bit concerned as she's been in since June with such little progress made. Mostly she lives in her safe room - alone. Maybe at night when I'm sleeping she ventures around more - but still. She is all over me when I go in to see her - like she's starving for affection. She did come out this morning and played with her sisters and I - I was very excited to see that! MAybe she'll do more soon.

W.L and Braveheart: W.L is still the sweetie as always. She's working on herself. B.H has fully healed to whatever that injury/skin issue was. I'll slowly intro new things to see if it was a triggered allergy, my bet is a fight though.

Food: I tried to add a small amount Limited ingredient dry food with Charlies small amount of Nighttime dry food (all the kitties are mostly wet food - with a small amount of dry at bedtime.) It was Duck and Potatoes Blue LID. Pretty much all the cats hate it. Even Mia who tend not to be picky. So I've scratched that one off my list. :-( *sigh*

Electrical news: The electrician came and did a final assessment and quote. *gulp* My main worry about it was how I was going to manged 4 cats that aren't exactly in a peaceful place with each other, while holes were being put it walls, lots of loud noises, banging, sawing, strange people - and general insanity was around for 2 -3 weeks. *drumroll* Doesn't look like that's going to be an issue. Why you say? - Way less holes will be needed, and it's more repair than a full rewire. It's not near quite as bad as I thought. The only area that will have to have a full rewire is the kitchen. A few areas need lights added etc.

The breath of relief that went through me when they were poking around and we found all that out. It was like a weight of worry about the kitties was lifted.

but wait - it gets better...

I won't have to try to take 2 -3 weeks off work either - it'll be 2 -3 days and then another 2 days at a later date (probably a month - 3 months) when I am ready for the kitchen. 1 full day will be a full panel replacement so it won't be bad for the kitties at all!

But wait it gets even better.... the cost is significantly lower too. There is still a slight possibility of a full rewire but highly doubtful. Which means I go back to worry - but they said very unlikely.

Knowing that the kitties aren't going to be placed in an extremely stressful situation on top of everything else they are having to go through and adjust to- - can't tell you how nice that feels. Big relief!!!

I didn't tear up when he was here - I did when he left.

XOXOXOXOXO

LOL I hope you put them to work with the kitties. Not really a punishment though is it!

Yes, I wish time outs worked for cats too! oh, kitty boot camp! Sign us up!

*sigh* hiking - yes, I miss that too.

BJ and Charlie - bullies at large!

I’m glad to hear that Brave Heart is on the mend! Maybe snipping cat claws is in everyone’s future?!?!?
I did the front :-D I am considering back as well now. Good luck to me. MuHAHAHA

My kitty seemed to be allergic to an “improved” form of our usual cat litter. Aaaaarrrggghhh! Some improvement! Fur is growing back though.
Some new and improved litter! o,O I'm glad the fur on your baby is coming back as well! :-) Sometimes I wish that wouldn't be so fast to change what works!

White Label is being bullied. Cats will do that! I still think it is a combination of things with Charlie. He's bulling everyone - me included! :flail: I have new "scars" to add to my "Charlie collection".

I'm grateful these kitties are quite forgiving of him. They appear very confused by his behavior. Like "Hey we know you're boss, we said fine - what's the issue?" He also seems confused when B.H's ears go back and she says "STAY AWAY!" I think that's one of the differences in their upbringing - outdoor vs indoor. They are learning each other's languages.

Yup, that's Charlie too. He tried to eat me. I know that feeling. BJ and Charlie are alike in so many ways!

Charlie has the whole upstairs. I hate having to put him up there and gate it off, but I do sometimes. I let them work out stuff as much as I can though as long as it doesn't get violent. So far Charlie will chase Mia up her tree, chases W.L off her perch and beside the couch, he can't really get to her but they swat and each other, he hisses and she growls. B.H if he gets to close to her sleeping spot, she growls and screams and he seems to not push further on her - which is good as her ears go right back and she's ready for a fight. That - would - be- bad!

I' trying to mix their scents more too as I think that will help.

Your house is awesome!!! I love it!

This is my great room. Great for cats! Not so much for me! Lol

What a happy bunch! I love how you have spaces for them. Making me re-think what I can do in the areas for them with the space I have. So far, when Charlie gets his chase on - they hide beside the couch. He's bigger than they are so he can't get in MUAHAHAHAHA.

Right now I am re painting a room and because I don’t want the cats out there........ they are all out there!
Cats! What’re ya gonna do?

That's like when I was the floors or make my bed. I start to wash the floor - Charlie comes right along and walks in the wet and I think to myself - why? Bunch of weirdos cats are.

Seem to be down more than a typing finger. Trying again. I want to send this to @momof3b1g please check out Jcatbird's post #187 on page 10 of this thread. You might find the long paragraph beginning White Label of use.
How's your finger doing?

I'm glad thses posts might help some else too!

Yes. It seems we both have our “battle scars”. I wear them as badges of honor!

The separation of spaces really does seem to help. The cats all have their own house within my house.

As for the electrical work.....Yay! :bunnydance::banana1::woo::celebrate::dance::woohoo::banana2:
I hope it all goes quickly and smoothly.

It sounds like the cat situation, although bumpy at times, is basically calming down. Having Charlie upstairs is no big deal. Peace on the home front is required at times. A cooling off period does everyone a favor.
Very glad to hear that a level of relative sanity has descended on every cat there. :yess::lol: It really does take time for all this but it looks much better than it used to. For one thing, you’re not about to have to be resuscitated by the cats! Big step forward! Lol
I hope things continue to level out for you all!
XOXOXO welcome to kitty boot camp!

Update: Charlie has returned home from the vet. He was a good boy and gave her the pee she needed. Now we wait for two things - test results and a talk. The vet was busy but said she wanted to have a long talk with me and will call today / tonight. That makes me nervous but I'm trying not to get freaked out by the long talk thing. *bites nail* Hopefully all good stuff to move forward with for him and nothing bad.

His appetite since finishing the meds is FANTASTIC. So YAY! Maybe he'll gain his missing weight back. Preferably without becoming the chubster Mia is.

Yes. It seems we both have our “battle scars”. I wear them as badges of honor!
LOL too true!

I have another new set from WL that hurt like a *&^.

A new toy frightened her - she flew into my arms and then used my arm as a launching point - back nails right into me. WOW. OWWWW.

You and I will have "A love roadmap of memories made of scars"

The separation of spaces really does seem to help. The cats all have their own house within my house.
*nods* The girls have their own kind of special places they go downstairs, Charlie upstairs. I'm going to try to find something I can do for him downstairs so he has a special place to go to that's in the same area as the girls.

He was pretty good yesterday. More PITA and less Bully so I praised him for it!

As for the electrical work.....Yay! :bunnydance::banana1::woo::celebrate::dance::woohoo::banana2:

Thank you XOXOXOXOX I hope so too. Excited and naturally nervous at the same time. Lots of things I can do on my own - electrical - no-thank-you.

The relief is unreal!

A couple of days I can manage that stress for them. 2 -3 weeks of it - I was wracking my head trying to think of how on earth I was going to be able to make it stress-free for them. This takes such a load off.

ahhh and yes - to be able to remove the x-mas lights hanging in the basement and have a real light again with a switch!!! Yup - the little things in life. :bunnydance:and yes - an oven/stove. No more portable element!

After that I get to decorate the downstairs for kitties. I have the shelves and everything picked out. Now to save the cash for it and design it! :-)

Slowly. Very slowly. I'm really looking forward to the day I can leave them all together at night and not block them in the separate upstairs / downstairs when I leave the house. One day there will be mostly peace!

It really does take time for all this but it looks much better than it used to. For one thing, you’re not about to have to be resuscitated by the cats! Big step forward! Lol

LOL yes no being resuscitated by the cats and everyone is healing from their various health issues. So I have to take the little things as a win.

Thank you :-) XOXOXOXOXOXO

XOXOXO welcome to kitty boot camp!
I am so ready!! Or not - maybe - just let me get us some tea first. :-)

Fingers are crossed. He's been such a trooper.

I just looked at the invoice and I see that did another IDEXX SDMA test reading so I am worried as it means they are concerned about the kidneys. His physical two years ago was high for kidneys, then 6months-1 year later it improved and was back low. I'm going to pull the three out and review again. *praying and fingers crossed*

Thank you XOXOXO I'm trying my best.

Yes reno + future peace is good. The shelves I am looking at for the beatsties are very heavy - so I need to wait as I only want to install them once. I think they will all like them though.

The lovely vet called. No obvious blood and it's looking positive. We should know by the end of the week.

After we get the results - if it's all clear- food trial torment begins. She's put some test food aside. Now, everything I've read on here about the type of food says the food is crap, but, once we know the trigger, I can get him on better food. Even if it means learning to cook it myself. The important thing will be figuring it out and getting the inflammation to cease.

Thank goodness for this place- as once we know the trigger, there is a wealth of knowledge here about good foods. :-)

If the tests all come back clear, he'll need to be retested at 3 months and then 6 months.

Edit to add: oh and his weight is okay. Around the same as his last visit, so since this all began he did lose a slight bit of weight (about a pound) since his last annual but she said his muscle mass looks good etc.

I just read through this thread - bravo, you are doing everything right! It's a stressful situation and you're doing right by all of your cats :)

I just wanted to add - one of my childhood kitties (also named Charlie haha) was a feral that we adopted. His "safe areas" were behind the furnace and behind the freezer. For the first year of his life with us, he never really did want to leave those areas if there were any noises in the house. We were pretty worried, but he'd want cuddles and affection when we did see him, so we let him go at his own pace. Now at the ripe old age of 16, he's still pretty skittish and hides from strangers. But, he will roam my parents' place no problem. You're being wonderful and so great with all your kitties, keep up the good work!
