I visited this pet food website Chewy and the food quality and high prices for better food were a turn off. The site mostly sells supermarket cat food, including Purina, Meow Mix, and Temptations. And a lot of dry kibble food promotion as well. Then those areas of the site with better food, the prices are not reasonable AT ALL!!! Too expensive for the average working person. They format the site like if you're buying things on sale when you're actually NOT, including shipping and mailing costs. Not sure why all the hoopla about Chew.com.

~ It is definitely not the price. I believe it's the convenience of free home delivery and wide selection of products. I actually get a better price on cat food at Target , Walmart & dollar discount stores.
I imagine people living in a rural area find shopping online faster and easier.

Phydeaux Pet Store in NC has the best prices in overall cat food. I guess I am comparing the website to those prices.

True. But the Chewy website has over the top hype.

Dunno about cat food. I get that from the supermarket and pet stores.

Chewy rocks when it comes to flea killer. Advantage, all the rest, in a quantity and reasonable delivery to my office. Can't beat that with a stick, as dad used to say.

I have to drive 45 minutes to get anything other than our "top of the line" town special of Wellness Complete Chicken Pate for $2.59 for a 5.5 oz can. So for me, yes, it absolutely saves me money.

When my cat Jasmine was put on a chicken, fish, and grain free diet, it cost me about $80 a month for cat food from Chewy (for 2 cats). I literally could not buy cat food in town that she could eat, and going to Petsmart the price was much higher than that. Without Chewy, I would have been hurting.

I also get my rat food there, which is only $39.99 for a 20 lb bag, vs driving 45 minutes to get a 3 lb bag for $12. My parrot food is about the same as everywhere on the internet, but I also get light bulbs for my gecko. So convenience is definitely a bonus. $4.95 flat rate shipping is good but I always make it to the free $49 threshold!

Additionally, whenever I have had any issues, Chewy has gone above and beyond for me. I received one dented can, they sent me a whole new case of food when they could have credited me one can. When I left a 4 star review on bird food saying, "It's a good food but my bird wouldn't eat it." they gave me a full refund on the bag because they read my review.

Most recently, my remaining cat Lydia has been off her food since Jasmine left this plane of existence. I placed an order in June for several cases of Friskies (the only food that Jasmine could eat at the time without throwing up) and have several left. Lydia won't eat them at all now that Jasmine is gone. I contacted Chewy earlier this week (more than 6 months after I placed the order) and asked if I could return the cans for a store credit so I can buy foods Lydia will actually eat. They refunded me for ALL the cans of Friskies I bought in June, not just what I had left, and told me to donate them all to the local shelter.

Sure, they cater to those of us who have to or choose to feed supermarket foods, which is great when some of us try to extend our budget by feeding cheaper stuff. Sure, sometimes the prices aren't the best available - same thing happens with Amazon which is "known" for the lowest prices. But I am a Chewy customer for life because of the selection, affordability, convenience, and above all, their customer service.

Chewy is a lifesaver for me and my cats. I've never thought they were expensive (they do stock some foods that ARE expensive, but I just don't buy those ones, there's tons of other selection) and every single one of my orders is over the $49 for free shipping but even if it wasn't, as others have stated, $4.95 flat rate is considerably less than most other site's shipping prices. Their customer service is, in my opinion, the best I have ever seen.

They've sent refunds on two occasions when my cats didn't like a certain food, they sent me all new ear wipes when I had emailed them just to advise them to perhaps package them a little better because mine opened in transit (I specifically said that they were still good and no need to send me another ), they sent me an entire case of flea combs (that I believe were $5 each, a case includes 12 :eek2:) when I had just purchased one and told me to donate or give the rest as gifts when I asked them what to do!

I don't believe their prices are that expensive. I don't buy super high end foods but I do have my list of things I avoid or won't feed. Not to mention their black friday sales in November were crazy good, I ended up spending more than I had intended but I had such a great stock of cat food afterwards! But yeah. I love Chewy, I think they're the best online store for pet products and I recommend them to everyone.

Chewy for most people is cheaper they also carry a lot of higher end brands you'd have to goto specialty stores to get. In my case I live about 20 miles from a really nice store that is way cheaper than chewy and way I mean way cheaper than buying it from the manufactures website.

Also the food I buy from chewy is cheaper than in the stores. They aren't always cheaper but the very high end brands their prices are cheaper than what you can get normally locally. Except that one place i have to drive 40 miles round trip too. His store is worth it because he charges like $2 less than most places I don't know how he makes money on some of the brands...

....when the only wet food your cat will eat is Chewy's house brand, you're kinda stuck! :)

But in all honesty, Chewy's prices are in line, and sometimes better, than my local stores, and the site has a MUCH bigger selection. And as others have said, their customer service is second to none.

Chewy.com is awesome. Their customer service is the best. They have a Pharmacy now and the prices for RX Heartguard Plus is half the price as my Vet. I think the prices for dog and cat food are a lot better than most pet stores in my area. The free shipping at $49 is great too.

One of these days I'm going to use it. Chewy sells my cat litter for the same price as my local store but it would be so nice to have that delivered! I buy the 42lb bag that I can get into my trunk and then I wait a few days till one of my sons can carry it into the house.

I ordered from there a couple times but it hasn't been worth it for me either. I only have 1 cat so it's easier to just buy a case of food at the store when I'm there than to order online. I have to buy a variety of cases or month's worth of food at once to reach the minimum for free shipping. They tend to throw cases of food, litter and treats all in 1 box and then the treats end up smashed on the bottom of the box and it's so heavy that I can't get it off my front porch! Just not for me.
