Hello everyone,
I have been reading these forums a lot lately so I decided to join. You seem like such a supportive group of people.
My beautiful 12 year old cat has recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma of the intestine. We have just started her treatment protocol and both kitty and I are very stressed when it comes to administering her Chlorambucil.
I am covered in scratches and bites. She's a very anxious cat and trying to pill her is really difficult. It breaks my heart to see her so freaked out. The pill popper just gets hit out of the way, if I try to wrap her up she gets terrified, I have tried to stick the pills in treats but she eats around the treats.
Has anyone got any advice for giving oral meds to a terrified and aggressive cat? This pill cannot be crushed or broken.
Thanks so much.

Hi. So sorry for your 12 yo baby. Just found this article on a liquid version of the med your sweetie is taking. Take a look, and perhaps you can get this??? The only thing I have heard about it being in liquid form is the shelf life and the handling of it for humans, but I am not familiar with what that actually means.

Thank you for your reply and kindness. This might be something for the vet and I to discuss again. I was told the pills are better for my cat (and me, I suppose) because they get filtered through the digestive system and so on as opposed to injections which go straight into the bloodstream. I think it's more gentle if they get filtered a bit. I don't know. I am completely frazzled at the moment.

Ugh, I am so sorry. I just looked at the link again properly and I see now that it is an oral liquid! This is definitely something I will ask my vet about because my cat has a feeding tube so I could probably put it through that. Thank you so much. Sorry I am such a scatterbrain right now. I haven't slept much lately and can't focus very well.

You can try a different pill dough. Pill Pockets aren't the only brand. I use this one: Pill Paste for Cats - Bacon Flavored You can buy it directly from the company or from Amazon and other online stores.

You can also ask the vet about compounding the medicine into another form. Wedgewood Pharmacy has these options: Chlorambucil Medication & Information for Animals, Wedgewood Pet RX, Wedgewood Pet RX A local compounding pharmacy may also be able to compound the medicine.
Hello little minion,
thank you for your reply!
I live in Australia and we can't even buy pill pockets here, which is very lame. I have ordered some online though and hopefully they will be here in the next couple of weeks.
Compounding is a good idea if it can be done. It can be a bit difficult with these medications but all of these suggestions are great and worth discussing with the vet.

I wonder if mani mani knows of something similar to Pill Pockets that is available in Australia  If you can order things online without getting charged a huge amount, that's great :agree:

I haven't used pill pockets.. I've been really fortunate with pill poppers. We don't have a big choice of anything in Australia, unfortunately.

Nice to meet another Aussie. We seem to have so many other Greenies treats but not the pill poppers. There is something called pill buddy that they sell at "my pet warehouse" but it is for dogs. What about the kitties!? They are the hardest to medicate!

Indeed. :(
The idea of using the feeding tube is excellent.

The tube is so great for getting lots of food into her and for all of her other medications. The Chlorambucil unfortunately cannot go through it. We have survived the first round though and have a little break before the next. Kitty and I are so happy and relaxed now and we have pill pockets on the way. :)
