This is probably a weird question and maybe I’m the only one it’s happened to, but has a cat ever helped a relationship/friendship you’ve had in anyway? Started a new one perhaps?

When Totty and Tubby came to live with me I was in a not so great relationship. When I got Tubby, a coworker and friend of mine took home his littermate Phoebe. My relationship ended, then a long term relationship of hers ended too and the trend we had of getting the cats together for play dates which we had always done became more frequent and eventually she and I started going on our own dates, then fast forward a bit she and I are in a healthy relationship, she moved in, and we’re now living as a happy family of five. Who knew a pair of sibling cats and a fluff ball could bring two people together?

That's a great story! Yes pets bring people together that normally won't have anything in common.
You see, other than being coworkers we didn’t think we had anything much in common at the time. I think the cats were like let’s show them how well we get along so that maybe they’ll make the decision to have Phoebe and her meowmie move in. We did, she and I discovered plenty of mutual interests, and we have the cats to thank for it.

That's a great story, with a wonderful ending! I don't have any romantic stories involving cats yet, but I have made about 6 or 7 close friends on this site that I hope to keep in touch with for the rest of my life. :)
I’m sure your friends feel the same way. :)

That's such a heartwarming story! Toffee and Fudge have helped me become closer to some of my friends who I don't talk to as regularly, since they're crazy cat ladies too. They also helped reconcile my neighbours and I for a little who we've never really got on with (they're quite cold and antisocial and don't really talk to anyone in the neighbourhood despite having lived here for two decades), however we don't speak to them anymore since she has also excessively complained about the cats (which is unfair considering she has two cats of her own).

That's funny. that's how I met my partner too at work. We are in opposite generations and opposite interests but somehow we managed to make it work for 15 years this month. my oldest cat Pumpkin Face was his baby that I had gotten the month before and he spent hours on the floor trying to lure her out from under the furniture. She was 12 to14 weeks when I got her and terrified of people. She got used to me pretty quickly. She slept with him since that fateful moment he got her to come out from under the recliner. I will never forget hiw determined he was to get Pumps out and pet her. She's been his kitty since. Now she's older and starting to have health issues. We both are sad to see her age but she was the one cat who we both bounded over. There was another cat Floey who he used to take her for walks in the woods. That cat was a dogcat. She loved car rides and being outside. She never took off. She guarded the house and chased other animals out of here so he dubbed her Flo monster. Flo has passed on since July of 2016 but those two were pretty neat together.

I love hearing stories about how cats get us to interact with people we normally wouldn't bother with. Cats bring lots of people together. There's dozens on here that we may not have much in common but we have a common goal.

I think it’s awesome that you met the person you were meant to be with at work. It’s frowned upon in my permission to date a coworker, but when you’re with the right person sometimes you just can’t help but go for it.

I love the story of how sweet and patient your partner was when it came to winning over little Pumpkin. I’m sorry that she’s having health issues now, I hope that it’s something that can get better? If not, just make her feel loved and comfortable for however long she has left. Spending that extra time will end up giving you peace of mind in the end.

Hearing you explain the Flo Monster made me smile. She seemed like quite the fun kitty. I’m sorry to hear of her passing, but I’m sure you have lots of wonderful memories to look back on.

I have a neighbor in my condo that's socially shy. She won't talk to anyone. Everyone in the complex thinks she's just rude. But when I moved in and she saw I had cats, she made the effort to talk to me.

Granted, we don't see each other often, but because of our cats, it brought her out of her shell to chat with me when we do see each other.

Neighbors are surprised that we talk.

Nothing really super sweet or amazing, but I got into it with a nearby neighbor once and we didn't speak for awhile. The mail guy left something for them at our place, so I did the old grunting and cursing and swearing thing and drove it over to them, intending to dump it in their mailbox. When I got there, he was sitting at the edge of his lane petting one of his barn cats, I drove up, decided I couldn't heave his mail out of the window, so pulled over and got out and said "got some of your mail." As I handed it to him, his cat (super friendly thing) ran over and started rubbing my ankles. I haven't completely lost myself so I stooped down and gave him some pets, and before I knew it we were talking and laughing like old times. All was forgiven because this little barn cat told us to stop acting like morons and get over it already.
So we did.

Because of having cats, I was on another forum years ago. Many of us got to become very good friends. In fact, that was how I met Carol/LaRussa on this board; I'd known her since the late 1990s from that old forum. She came to our house several times for the weekends and I'd drive to New Jersey to visit with her. We didn't always get along; there were times I made her crazy and she made me spastic and there were times when we, as two 60+year-olds, wanted to smack each other silly. But yet, it worked out. She passed away a couple years ago and I still find myself thinking about her and I still miss her daily emails. I met some truly amazing people from that board and we got to be pretty close. All because of the cats.

Way to go, kitty! Animals have an amazing way of easing tension between people.
I didn't have my cat when I met my bf, but he had his, and seeing how he interacted with her helped solidify he was the one.
I do that in regards to dating too. I could not be with someone who isnt an animal lover and if they refuse to interact with my cats, they have gotta go. Thankfully, that isn't a problem with the person I'm seeing now.

What a wonderful story. That sounded like such a great friendship and I'm sorry to hear of her passing. I hope that one day as long as I stay as active on here as I am now, I'll make a few TCS friends too. :)

This is very touching, and not the usual route a casual internet friendship takes and manages to grow. I'm glad you had one another, and I'm sorry for your loss.
