...with the cats...
good morning! :wave3:

this morning was the fall daylight saving, turn the clocks back an hour, here in the US.

for today's Question of the Day......

Did you remember this, or (like me) did you wake up and notice that...something was 'off' with the time on some devices (ie, computer, cell phone, alarm system, tv show times not as they should be, etc)?

i'll start!

yup, i woke up in the early morning hours to give my cats their 'middle of the night' snack, and noticed that the alarm system's time had jumped back an hour. it took me a few minutes, but i figured that it was due to fall daylight saving having taken effect.

so i'll be changing the few clocks that need it, later this afternoon. :agree:

How about you?

They tried leaving Daylight Saving Time on year round back in the early 70s. This meant that on the western edge of the time zones, the sun didn't come up until after 9 a.m. Too many children were killed waiting for the school bus or walking to school in the early morning darkness. So we went back to standard time in the winter.

There's no real solution to this as long as the time zones are so wide. There's an hour's difference between the east and west sides. The only thing that could be done is to split up the time zones in half hour differences, which would really be confusing.

LOL, yeah but that was last night
So, I've been zipping around getting all the clocks up to date, and all that's left is the one on my car radio, and my wristwatch which won't happen until later anyway since the battery is dead.

Yeah, I don't really see a way around it. If we stayed on DST it wouldn't get light until 8-9 am in the winter, and if we stayed on Standard time the sun would come up at 4 am in the summer. The farther north you get, the more sense it makes to stick with DST.

I thought of that, and maybe it wouldn't be too bad, if they just switched to the half-hour and kept it there. But there are probably complications I haven't considered.

:bliss::doh: We all slept in. I fed Gypsy her wet around 7am then she and I went back to sleep in the spare bedroom. Its windy and rainy outside, good weather to curl up with a cat and a book or TCS. Well since Scott goes to work today at 2pm I'd been keeping an eye on the time on the clock atop the tv and the one on the microwave.... About two hours ago I noticed the time on the phone.....and realized that time had "fallen back" :doh2::fallsmiley::thud:

I woke up at 4am old time..then got up turn the clocks back. The internet clocks had already changed. I tried to go back to sleep but ended up watching Chicago PD and really enjoyed it despite it being 3am in the morning! I love the time falling back. I abhor it going forward since I'm not good at waking up on time. And the one morning I could sleep in I was up at crack of dawn!!

It's on my calendar and my phones calendar so I remembered. Last year I bought an analog wall clock to teach my kids to tell time. It needed a battery change but it's in a hard to reach spot so I never changed it back forward last spring before the battery ran out. So I decided to pull that down on Thursday and go ahead and set the time ahead then.

I remembered. It was on my mind since I was going to a Cat Show on Sunday. My Shelter always brings several cats to show and it is just a lot of fun.

I think they need to do away with it. (DST, not the cat show) There is no real reason now to be changing time. It is just a big headache. On the east coast the kids go to school so early that it is dark anyway.

I have to change all the battery clocks at work tomorrow and a wall clock at home that is a real hassle. And the car clock. And it takes about 2 weeks for the people and animals to get used to the new time. It is just one more thing in the world to annoy me.

R rgwanner - We were in Atlanta when the children were getting killed. Atlanta is so far west, it should be in the Central Time Zone, but I guess because of the trains running on the eastern seaboard, it was put on Eastern time.

My cats are confused, too. Lunch went fine, but now they want dinner, and it's just past 4 p.m.

Most of Australia put theirs forward, except us... here in Queensland the farmers complained bitterly and it didn't happen. So we live out of sync with the rest of the east coast.
My problem is when I need to ring a business in another state and I've left my run too late. Or when my more early-birdy friends who normally ring me at 7am forget and I get 6am phonecalls. That kind of thing. :rolleyes2:

I remembered to reset clocks ... and I really wish they'd do away with it and leave us on standard time. The idea of splitting time zones into half-size with half hours is an interesting one, and I could see that (and leave us on standard time year round, and stop fussing with the clocks -- it's not only archaic, but it plays havoc on vulnerable people--cardiac issues, and messing with the timing of medications that have to be taken multiple times a day). It'd be an adjustment at first, but honestly it wouldn't be that hard to get the "What time is it in [other place]?" converters re-calibrated to provide more options.
