I have struggled to care for the cats in my apartment complex. The one's considered adoptable are with foster homes or have been adopted. The ones that are left are at risk because of the abusive cat hating people here. I do the best I can to care for them, but I know I will have to move and abandon them one day. For now, I take it one day at a time and love them. If anyone is interested in taking in a misfit kitty that is considered unadoptable please contact me. I started this thread to introduce my wonderful misfit colony kitties and explain why they are lovable despite their misfit designation.

Today's misfit kitty of the day is Antonio:

Antonio is very friendly. I thought he might be tame enough to get adopted, but the vet's office deemed him not friendly enough. I can tell you, he loves me (as he should) and follows me around. He enjoys getting petted. He is squirmy when I pick him up, but if he had a regular loving home where he was given more attention I suspect he would get over that. He is wary of strangers, all the cats here are, but that's only because the people are mean here, they scream at them, kick and hit them with rocks and sticks. Antonio is very graceful and has a Fred Astaire quality about his posture. He's a well behaved kitty who mostly stays by himself, because some of the other kitties haven't accepted him into their gang and chase him off. He has a very nice purr when he gets his neck scratched.

Anyone who can help please chime in here. I’m trying to help find assistance in this area for these wonderful cats too. Sometimes it takes a village, TCS is just that. So many great cat parents are out there. I know everyone who reads about them will want to keep them safe. These cats are great and deserve to live without fear of torture. Any of you who know the story I have told of other cats will understand that I only get involved in desperate situations. The demands on my time saving cats from similar circumstances keeps me overwhelmed. Yet I am willing to give a little harder. I am trying every resource I can find but no helpers yet. Please pass this thread along to others anywhere you can. The clock is ticking for these cats. Some stories have ended badly. I would like these to be happy endings. Transport, foster homes, adoption or a referral that can be checked into for placement by Surya. Anything. To TNR and socialize these cats has taken huge efforts by Surya. A couple of more steps and the cats will live as they should.

I'm not in the Southern US but if I get any leads, I'll post or PM.
BTW, the vet might not deem him friendly but a lot of friendly cats aren't exactly sunshine, rainbows and farts at the vets office, so keep that information in mind but don't let it worry you too much.

I don't know if anyone has utilized this info when I've posted it previously, but try the Denver Dumb Friends League. Colorado does a LOT of rescues from other states, and I think the DDFL would likely have information you can make use of, including transport. They don't have a toll free

I emailed them before and the lady who emailed back was not helpful at all. But it wouldn't hurt to try again, maybe I'll get a different person.

I called our loyal local SN clinic that knows us by name once and the lady on the phone was downright rude. I was kind of shocked but we took our cats in for SN anyway. Turns out, the lady was on her last day before maternity leave, almost ready to burst with her first unborn child. No wonder she was stressed out!
She came back several months later and, last time I spoke to her, was very pleasant.
Hopefully the person was just having a bad day.

I have also had bad responses but upon second, third and fourth tries, finally connected with the person who would help. I find phone calls work better. In person it’s even harder to turn me down. Persistence. We keep trying

Sometimes shelter volunteers are just not nice people. They need to remember why they're doing this in the first place.

Today's misfit kitty of the day is Reggie:

Reggie is the John Wayne of the cats. He is big, tough and courageous. One of his ears flops over (because of an untreated ear infection). He has rough fur and is almost all muscle. He swaggers around and takes charge, making friends with other cats easily. But he also doesn’t back down when other cats pick a fight and stares them down. He set up camp in front of my apartment door and follows me around. He is rather bossy, and talks a lot letting me know what he and his buddies need. I put a little basket outside my door for him and he and his buddy like to cuddle up together. When he injured his bad ear, he allowed me to squirt the medicine in his mouth without problem. He allows me to pick him up and give him back rubs. He is a big sweetie, just rough around the edges like the Duke. I have a real soft spot for this guy. He’s obviously never been inside before, but he keeps trying to sneak in my door. Some cats do fine without people, but this guy really likes people and wants to be someone’s cat.

Tuesday's misfit kitty of the day is Heart.

Heart kitty is a little cutie. She is small but tough. She had to be to survive and fights off kitties twice her size when they get near her food dish. She loves to be petted and allows me to pick her up and give her pets. I know she could be a perfect pet, except she does not like to share her groceries with other cats. So she may need to be an only child. She is adorable and she makes me smile whenever she comes to greet me.

Wednesday's misfit kitty is Tom:

In honor of Halloween, today's misfit kitty is dressed all in black. There is nothing scary about this big black kitty, he is an easy going, laid back, and looking for love. When he first showed up he was skinny and totally feral, but now he's a big tame guy who always wants to be petted and have his chin scratched. He's not a lap cat. Although I have put him on my lap a couple of times and he permitted it for a short cuddle. If you want a cuddly lap cat you would have to socialize him some more. If not he is just a great low maintenance outdoor kitty. He would love to have a yard where he doesn't have to hide in the bushes all day so people don't hurt him. He gets along great with all the other cats, especially the girl cats, they love him.

Today's misfit kitty of the day is Sophia:

Sophia is a beauty. I thought someone might have gotten her fixed already because it looked like she had been ear tipped and that's what the vet who examined her thought too. But when we took her back for a check up, they discovered she hadn't been fixed and was a he. Apparently the first vet missed this, ::rolls eyes::. I still call him Sophia, he doesn't seem to mind. A vet tech fell in love with Sophia and took him home, but he had dogs and little kids and Sophia freaked out, so she came back to the colony. Not too surprising since people here sick their dogs on the cats and the kids chase, scream at them and poke them with sticks. I'd like to poke those kids with some sticks, but that would get me in some trouble. Anyway, if someone could spend a little time socializing this kitty, I think he would be adoptable, because he's so pretty. I know someone would want him. Today is my birthday. My birthday wish is a foster parent for one of these sweet kitties.

I'm also wishing each of these precious kitties will find a loving home very soon. Sorry there isnt more I can do, but will continue to send positive thoughts that someone can adopt or will share your posts.

Its really difficult finding homes or a rescue group that can help. Think there are too many amazing kitties without homes, but have no idea how to fix this. What can we do except try to provide temporary care, food & love until a home is available.

You're doing an amazing thing caring be these beautiful babies.

There is no help for older kitties who need some socialization in order to be considered adoptable, at least in Houston. There are individuals who do it, but they usually are kind people who are already doing all they can and can't take in anymore. But I know there is someone out there who would be lucky to have one of these kitties and give it a home. Thanks for the support. :)
