I have posted on here pics of Mizzies cut paw pad. It's been 3 weeks and the swelling, wound seems to have started at the outer pad and has moved to the third pad. Been on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds. She now has a slightly swollen front lower lip. In the past she has had a sore on the corner of her mouth that turned into a hard bump then burst and went away, only to gotto the other corner. The vet, when we showed him the first corner, it was ntn and would go away. Didn't take her back after the other broke out.

Hi Cquinn1021.
I'm wondering if perhaps this is actually a strong immune system that's over reacting......or, reacting to an allergy.

Could you post a/some pix of this "sore" or swelling on her mouth?

Right now it's more just a swollen lip. The mouth sores were awhile ago.

The corner would have a small sore, the sore grew. Then a small bump startedby the cornerand grew to the size of a pea. The very corner was crusty and kind of leaked stuff. It then started to vi away. The other corner started the same way. Idk if they were cysts. I took her to the vet for shots and showed him the beginning sore . He said it's probably ntn and it should vi away soon.

I'm not a vet, but this does not look good to me.
What kind of cat litter are you using?
Could this be some kind of allergic reaction?
Have you changed her food lately?
I would want to see a different vet if the first vet did not think this was a big deal.
The antibiotic and anti-inflammatory meds did not resolve the issue, so I would take her back to a vet.

Do you have any ideas for Mizzie?

I agree with foxden foxden about taking Mizzie to a different vet and getting a second opinion. I'd do it now, too. The raw looking areas around her paw pads look painful to me, or at least sensitive. Does Missie seem to be in any discomfort at all? Not that she would necessarily show it, cats being such stoics.

Foxden also makes a good point about allergies. In addition to litter and food, take a look at anything you've changed recently. Have you gotten any new carpet? Are you using a new carpet shampoo or floor cleaner?

As an aside, I have to tell you that I think the photos of Mizzie's pads, especially the top one are adorable. :redheartpump: So cute and fuzzy! I hope to see more photos someday showing them all healed up!:bluepaw:

This would be my recommendation as well.

Now, Vets are not created 'equal'........when things get complicated in feline medicine, many average general practice Vets 'flunk out'.

I'll suggest that you look around and see if there's a cat-only** clinic/hospital close enough to access...then, get an appointment with the most experienced Vet there (often, that's the owner). Many people will rate Veterinarians by their 'bedside manner'......what you need is an experienced, consummate Vet, not a sweet young no-nothing.

When I suggested that it may be her strong immune system over-reacting or reacting to an allergy (or, perceived allergen), here's where that came from: Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex - Mar Vista Animal Medical Center

Well, in our case, our cat is FIV+, and at one point, the vet though Buddy might also have some kind of autoimmune disorder (such as pemphigus foliaceus or eosinophilic granuloma complex) because of the chronic problems with his paw pads and nail beds, and the mouth sores that look like rodent ulcers.

It turned out that the primary culprit for Buddy's paw problems was a chicken allergy. He's also prone to fungal skin infections (as we live in an extremely humid climate), and the FIV just makes him even more susceptible. The mouth sores turned out to be from his herpes flare-ups.

One of the things that helped the most was to stop trying to boost Buddy's immune system, and start trying to modulate it instead. Kinda like the Goldilocks standard, where it's neither too active, or too under active.

With our vet's help, we've finally stumbled across some things that seem to be working, at least for the moment. *quickly knocks wood*

I also created a spreadsheet to try to help us figure out what other proteins and/or ingredients Buddy may be allergic to -- and that's still a work in progress.

IMHO, I think your first step should be to find another vet to get another opinion. Sometimes what one vet will miss, another will be able to identify right away.

Hope you find a vet who can get this sorted out as quickly as possible, and that your kitty is on the mend soon! :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
