I'm trying to purchase this 13 week old kitten. The seller says that she is a pure ragdoll but i am unsure. Her fur does not look as fluffy as a normal ragdoll her age and the markings look very strange. Please help! Any feedback is appreciated.

Who sold this cat to you? Only a registered breeder would know what this cat is if you boght her from one. Kitten mill breeders don't care if cats are purebred. They just put any two cats together to make kittens,.

No. Ragdolls are pretty distinct. It is CUTE but not a Ragdoll. Don't buy from a breeder unless they have good lines and papers to prove what they are selling.

It doesn't even have the long hair of a ragdoll. Is the breeder saying that because of the blue eyes? I would steer clear of this breeder.

Well that breeder probably lied to her. MAAAAYBE its a Ragdoll mix?? However since you are not directly supporting the breeder, I guess it would depend on how much you love the kitten and how much you are willing to spend for a domestic cat, to determine if you should go for it or not. How much do they want for it?

Hold on a bit here, I feel like there is a Ragdoll breeder on here or that someone else can point you in the right direction.

If you are trying to buy a purebred kitten for $400, you are going to get scammed one way or another. Reputable breeders can't afford to sell kittens at such a low price. It costs a lot to raise kittens properly.

I am hoping to find one not from a breeder. Hopefully someone is selling theirs for around 400$. Thats unfortunately the amount I am allowed to spend :(

If you are attracted to a specific breed, but you can't afford the price of a kitten from a reputable breeder, you can try asking breeders if they have a young adult or retired breeding cat available. An adult will usually cost much less than a kitten, and its looks and personality are already developed, so you know what you are getting. Another option is to adopt a shelter or rescue kitty with similar characteristics to the breed you are attracted to.

I didnt even think of that! :) I will definitely look around for an adult or retired breeding cat. Although, if I do manage to find someone (not a breeder) selling their ragdoll kitten for around 400 should I trust it ?

If someone is not a breeder, they are selling a kitten for $400 and saying it is purebred, but they have no documentation, it would sound like a scam to me.

It would be better to get either a retired adult through a responsible breeder, or a rescue or shelter kitty through a legitimate rescue group.

Okay! Thank you so much for the help. I will definitely be more meticulous in my search for a kitten. I appreciate all of your advice.

I second looking at shelter cats. My cat is “only” half Ragdoll but has many of the characteristics Ragdolls are famous for, minus the heavy hair and risk of heart defects badly bred Ragdolls can have.
