Good grief, I've forgotten 15-20 questions again! And they occur to me when I don't have pen and paper handy (in the bathtub, places like that). WELL SPIT!

OK, try this...are you a planner or do you go with the flow?

For all of my compulsive list making, I am not really a planner. I like to take life as it comes, waft on the breeze, eddy in the currents of life. I might have been better of financially if I had made a 5 year plan and a 10 year plan, but MAN, I'd have missed out on some wonderful experiences. LOL, also, I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I mean, I'm only 65!

I'm a short-term (days, weeks, or months) planner, rather than somebody that bothers to make long-term plans that probably couldn't be stuck to.

:yeah:

More short term than anything. I've finally figured out that long-term planning, for the most part, doesn't mean much if I don't stick to it.

I'm a planner when it comes to work or dates and putting them on the calendar. However, I don't think about plans too far in advance. Now that you mention it maybe I should think more about long term plans. ;)

I like to think that I go with the flow and ride with the tide, but probably not quite so much. Here's an entry from my Day Planner:

"June 15, 2026: 11:19 and 30 seconds: take out trash and recycle bin."

I still can't understand why alarm clocks can't be set for the hour, minute and second. Really!

;)

Planner.
The sad thing is I make daily lists out weeks in advance, and half the time never get half of the stuff done but am totally OK with it, so I guess I plan...then go with the flow.
Having a plan, even if I don't stick to it, gives me some weird sense of security. And completing things I know need to be done gives me a sense of accomplishment and crossing it off makes it "real" and easy to remember, and good blackmail for lazy days ("I know I've been on the couch for 6 days straight but remember that day 14 months ago, I washed dishes AND re-organized the freezers?")
With what we do for a living, we NEED to plan ahead. If we don't, we'll have hungry living things of all shapes and sizes that are not happy and problems will arise, and start going down like dominoes. It's not a good place to be for us.
Edit...for example, every year around October I get one of those 365 day book planners, and I sit down and write down my work schedule, plan any time off I might want, and jot down any important dates (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) copied from the old one. Every other week I have the same errands to run so I jot that down on the specified day.

I'm both a short- and long-term planner, but have no hesitation about changing plans if circumstances warrant. But, I could really use more spontaneity in my life.
Don't ask me for spontaneity ideas. My idea of "living life on the edge" is salting bacon, LOL

Haha I'm not quite that retentive, but yes, I do mark things down like "trash out", "empty cat boxes", "clean dog stuff", "clean stalls", etc. on a several-times weekly basis =) It's stuff that's so ingrained in my brain I could probably suffer a mild coma and still remember what days the litter boxes must be dumped and filled with clean litter.

I'm usually a planner unless I decide once in a while last minute if I want to have a shopping spree, hehe!
My last minute list chuck is usually a nap. You know, 45 minutes to an hour and 4 1/2 hours later I wake up, groggy and looking around going "what? What day is it? Did I sleep through the night? Is it 1974, did I just dream all that?"

I like to plan but my follow through doesn't always match my plans. That was REALLY frustrating to me when my first child was born. i used to be good about lists and prioritizing tasks. I was used to wearing many hats at work and having to jump between things. Then my DD was born and I felt like I lost control of all my abilities. I've learned to let go a lot.

I'm not a complete stick-in-the-mud; but I really do better if I have advance notice that I need to leave the house for something more than say a trip to the store or a doctor's appointment or maybe dinner out. I can handle things being rescheduled; cancelled plans are kind of a favorite thing. But I don't like last minute plans.

I do that so many weeks!! "I'll remember that!" is a lie we tell ourselves right?

Last minute plans are the bane of my life, seriously.
Sometimes it's fun when friends calls up and are like "dinner and drinks?!?", but sometimes I resent the fact that a lot of people don't realize how much work having dogs, cats, farm animals, livestock, etc. really is. And what I *REALLY* have found myself being resentful for is saying "I'm sorry, we can't tonight, we have a sick dog/cat/horse/whatever" and the person is like "oh, I'm sure they'll be fine. 7:00?"
NO! Just no!! A sick animal is a sick animal, I don't care if it's the Queen of England's prized Corgi or my lamest, oldest horse, when they're ill enough that we take notice, flitting off to a relaxing meal that will keep us away or 4 hours is not happening. =/

Oh I know exactly what you mean. I plan life around medication routines for the girls to a certain extent. I can only tweak so much. Fortunately I found another good sitter who is reasonable and flexible; but I still need notice for that. What's the saying about farmers? Most people work 9-5 but farmers work 5-9. Even small hobby farms are like that from what I've seen at my mother's friends.

Sometimes people think just because I homeschool my kids that we have tons of free time. I might take DS for a haircut at 1pm ever 6-8 weeks; but that doesn't mean we can just drop school "whenever" to go to x, y, or z. I might be "home" doing it; but this is my job. I *might* be able to babysit for someone. Thankfully no one has asked me to take their sick kid so they can work. I live too far out of the way for that. ;)

I'm a short term planner. If I have to drive somewhere I've never been, I obsess over the driving directions until I memorize them.

I have a weekly list of households duties hung on my fridge, mostly for accountability. I don't like shifting things around on the list because it's kind of planned out to make the most of my time.

I wouldn't say I'm a long term planner in the least. I ended up quitting my previous job last year and kicking in the wind for six months just painting, writing and reading. I had savings just for that kind of situation so I was able to be a bit carefree.

I mostly take things in stride.

I find the best laid plans can end up completely different than what you initially planned, so you might as well take it as it comes.

I'm not a planner at all, I can't stick to plans, I usually have no idea what I'm doing from one hour to the next never mind days or weeks in advance.
Saying that though, I do all my household tasks in the same order everyday although not necessarily at the same time everyday. My having OCD sees to that, and my 6 year old son has autism so I have to keep his routine in place.
