I Got Some More Info From Rawz Re New Varieties

I've been corresponding with someone from Rawz who had let me know they have a new rabbit canned food available soon. I've been trying to move away from Nature's Variety products since they added peas and carrots to their Ultimate Protein Rabbit & also changed the type of fish oil used. My cats won't eat the peas and carrots (so I now pick them all out can by can), and the one allergic to fish (protein, but not fat) is now scratching.

I got some more specific info about the new canned food as I have a cat w/allergies & was curious about the ingredient list. When I asked if that was the only new product coming out, she said there would be 4 new canned products for cats, but no dry.

As far as when, she said their distributors would have the info on the products soon, but it's up to them to order them. She suggested I find a retailer to try to get them to request it. She pretty much said "we can't make them order it". The only local place I found who was willing to press their distributor here to get some asap was owner of Wholesome Pet in Southbury. Estimate is that she'd probably have some in early July.

Here's the info the woman from Rawz sent about the ingredients, etc (Note that "natural flavor" = a low-sodium broth, either protein specific for that recipe or vegetable broth - judging by the ingredients of their current products).

Thanks for posting this!

Some rough calculations give the percentage of calories from protein/fat/carbs as:

protein: 36%
fat: 56%
carbs: 8%

Seems decent, although you'd expect a food with rabbit as its primary meat source to be higher in protein and lower in fat.

Any word on whether they got rid of the BPA in their cans?

Thank you so much! Olive loves their beef flavor, and we are switching Trin over to rabbit food, so I am looking forward to trying this out on him!!

I actually just sent them an email about the BPA and they were very quick to get back to me (they have great customer service).

They said that all of the new formulas are made with BPA free cans, but they still have BPA cans of their older formulas on the shelves. They have produced new BPA-free cans of the older formulas too, but it may take a short while for those ones to get on the shelves (will have to wait for the BPA ones to be finished with).

This is great info to have. I was feeding Rawz canned before I started the girls on homemade raw in December. I wouldn’t mind alternating with the occasional can of Rawz, particularly if they expand to include rabbit and duck. Like A Azazel , I’m a little surprised that the protein isn’t higher.

Thanks for doing that! I have no idea why the fat content would be so high for rabbit.

The only thing I might suggest is adding some fish oil or some sort of omega supplement to their diet since I don't see any info about that on the label and it isn't a pet food requirement.

So I just emailed Rawz for nutrition info on their canned cat foods, and they included the new Rabbit Formula as well.

Thanks. I actually managed to get a can of the rabbit and the duck on Friday. I only got one of each to try. Isis (allergy cat) loved both. Aja wouldn't touch either. I'm getting some Nature's Logic salmon oil and will try adding it to the next cans. The only Rawz flavor Aja likes so far is Turkey, which Isis seems to get a reaction.

GOOD NEWS: I can confirm that both cans (Duck and Rabbit) say No BPA on them. The inside of the cans are still white, so I don't know what BPA was replaced with.

PS: Both the duck and the rabbit were both quite a bit more expensive than the other 4 varieties have been. Buying by the can, the average price for the old varieties was $2.20/can. These were each $2.99! There may be a discount when buying by the case and our local place has a program where the 13th case or bag of food you buy (of the same brand/kind) is free, so that helps. Just a heads up that the rabbit and duck will be more expensive.

Where did you pick up the new flavors? Curious if anyone near me has them.

This might be a special case. I had been communicating by email with the store owner as well as with the regional distribution who supplies RAWZ to them. The store owner ordered some as soon as the distributor had it available to order. It seems like most other store owners around here aren't even aware that RAWZ has new varieties coming out. The store is Wholesome Pet in Southbury, CT.

Ok thanks! Rawz hasn’t even updated their website, not sure how stores are supposed to know, lol.

I asked my local indy when AutumnColors AutumnColors brought it up in June, and they didn’t know anything about it. I’ll ask them again to check it out.

No where i have to shop carries Rawz, :( i have ordered some online before, my cats are not good with pate. Are any of the new foods shreds, or minced?

Where did you order Rawz online? I’m just curious because the company has a firm policy that they don’t sell their products online. You may not have received the “proper” product.

They have a list of authorized retailers on their website. Mostly I think it is brick and mortar pet shops that ship to customers. I used bernalbeast.com on the west coast myself.

RAWZ | Where to Buy
Ah okay, I didn’t realized they had authorized online retailers. Thanks!

It was from one of the links on the Raws site, Natural k9 out of Miami.

One or our local brick and mortar retailers has online ordering. I asked RAWZ to please add them to their list of approved online retailers since they already sell RAWZ in store and via their online ordering. They said the would, but it doesn't seem like they've added them to the website yet. They don't seem very quick about website updates, since they don't even have their new products listed on there yet.

The retailer with online ordering is called "Thomaston Feed". This forum won't allow me to include a link. It rejects my post as spam if I try. Just make the store name all one word and add "dot com" after it and you'll find it. Their main store is in Thomaston, Connecticut, but they have 3 other locations, too. The per-can price for cases of the old varieties of RAWZ is $1.95/can. They don't have the new product yet, though. The new stuff will be more expensive.

Their old "turkey" flavor seems to me to be more of a shred kind of food than pate. It's very "soupy". Your cat that doesn't like pate might like it.
