Interesting. We have used these in the past when introducing new cats to the household. I don't know if they made a difference because we have no idea if things would have been different without them.
We will be introducing a new kitten soon and are not planning on using the diffusers this time. Fingers crossed it goes well.

I used Feliway Classic when I introduced a new three-year-old cat to my two 13-year-olds last fall. It seemed to help calm the scared newbie, but one of the 13-year-olds continued to be extremely upset and angry (hissing, growling, going outside the box). I kept using the Classic but added the Feliway Multicat and found that it really helped Lily, the cranky one. I let it run out and Miss Cranky started to misbehave again. So I’ve used both for the past almost eight months, but am ready to cut out the Multicat. We’ll see what happens!

We've used these things for dogs and cats, and had 50/50 results. I wouldn't hesitate to try them because 50/50 isn't a bad thing. It might help!
I haven't done this with cats, but with dogs an "anxiety wrap" with an ace bandage (or a thunder shirt, works for more than thunderstorms!) helps them cope with weird, scary, potentially scary, or new things.

Fingers crossed here, too. If anything, the diffusers are easy to get if problem arise.
We've intro'ed new kittens without diffusers, and the typical "slap the new kid around without any real intent to do harm" happens and things iron themselves out =)

We've often used the diffusers at the shelter for very anxious cats, and they've appeared to help them settle down.

I've used them at home as a precaution when we've had guests staying at the house or noisy work being done (new roof), but they were plugged in a few days in advance, so it's impossible to know what it would have been like without them.

Any suggestions as to how to stop neutered male (for many years now) trying to hump spayed female (also for many years). Thanks!

Is this new behavior on his part harrys mom 02 harrys mom 02 ? If so, get your girl checked for a UTI, sometimes a UTI in girls (spayed) can bring out this behavior even in long neutered boys.

I use these in my home all the time. I know when it's time to change them because my male cat becomes aggressive with my oldest female cat. It is like clock-work.

I tend to use them when anything changes, when we moved house, for example, and whenever I get an new rescue or foster kittens. As weebeasties weebeasties said, it's impossible to know how bad they'd be without it. I'm interested to hear how the introductions go with the new kitten this time weebeasties.

I'm already second guessing my decision to not use Feliway. We are still in the scent swapping phase but the new baby keeps darting out of his safe room, ready to explore. The older cats seem fine with him except one. My two year old is hissing and stressed by his presence. I keep telling myself to be calm and it will work out, but honestly I have the Feliway multicat sitting in my Amazon shopping cart as I type this. Trying to hold out and not place the order...

Thank you for linking to this! I like to recommend Feliway diffusers to people with multi-cat households with aggression issues, because I had heard positive feedback from other cat owners. It’s nice to have a scholarly study backing this up.

I came across this old thread and though EXTREMELY late, thought I would post an update. I never did use feliway with the new kitten, Buddy. I just did slow introductions. Maybe 3-4 weeks. There were some issues with Buddy the kitten doing ninja attacks on his elders, but I honestly don't think feliway would have made a difference. He was just playing. The adults accepted him quite quickly despite him being very rambunctious. Overall, I'm glad I saved my money and just went slowly with the intros. If, however, the adults had shown any aggression, I probably would have tried the feliway.

I tried feliway multi cat. Because the youngest boy cat. Even after being in the home for a year. Started being a bully to the other cats. It seemed to make the other cats more aggressive. I took it out. Waited a couple weeks and tried again. Same thing. So back to Amazon it went :/
