Hello,

Did I miss something with ziwi peak—was there a major recall, are they shutting down..?? I can only find the Lamb wet cat food anywhere online (directly through their site, chewy, Amazon). Wondering what happened to the other meat choices? I know there was a formula change, but that was back in 2017...

Thanks all!

I did hear from one pet store owner that Venison is becoming increasingly difficult to source and that Ziwi is raising their prices on Venison flavors. I'm not sure if this also has something to do with its unavailability.

As far as I know, there has been no recall. I'm not sure where you are but I know the distributors near my area (West Coast) is having trouble with fulfilling orders so everything is backordered -- even bully sticks for dogs!

I haven't had any issue finding Ziwipeak at the pet store I shop at in SoCal. Maybe it has to do with relabeling? The store I go to carries both the old and new labels.

Hi all, I contacted ziwi peak before posting to this website and they didn’t respond. Thank you all for answering! I contacted chewy and I’ll post their response below.

Thank you for pawing in! Any food coming from New Zealand will take longer due to AAFCO standards changing and requiring them to go through extra checks before their goodies arrive here in the United States. Because of this, it's taking a little longer than expected to get back into our warehouse but I'll be sure to notify you once they're back in stock!

Interesting that online is just having the shortage! Glad you can still find cat food :)

Ziwipeaks is becoming so expensive now. It's ridiculous.

Yes, it has gone so far up in price. I didn’t realize the increase until just recently when I tried to find it again.

I don't get it sometimes. If we buy a "human grade" can of tuna or canned meat, it costs us a few cents or a dollar at most. But then you buy these tiny cans of meat, which technically aren't even meant for people to eat and take less red tape to process (or so I would think), but charge an arm and a leg. It's just ridiculous and unfair. All of us would like to feed high quality foods, but its not possible. To eat healthy is to go bankrupt it seems. Just really unfair. I can't afford to pay close to $6 a can for my guy. That's not even a full day's worth of food either!

I’m not sure the justification for the cost increase. I can’t afford to purchase it regularly either. I feel like I already spend a ton on their food, as I go between weruva, tiki Cat, and Ziwi peak, but ziwi will need to change. It’s going to have to be a very special treat for them. I was looking at instinct by nature’s variety instead of ziwi but haven’t done a real comparison yet. I’d be interested in feline naturals but they’re just as expensive as ziwi.

I think it just comes down to competition. There are a lot of human-grade tunas on the market, so companies have to put a low price on their product so that consumers are more likely to buy that over a competitor’s product, it’s high-supply and high-demand. Ziwi Peak is one of the “premium” pet foods, which doesn’t have quite as much competition, so they can charge more, being low-supply and high-demand.

I think the reason for the high cost of Ziwipeak is that it’s expensive to buy grass fed lamb and venison raised in New Zealand. It would be expensive to buy these meats for ourselves to cook too.

But the other ones are expensive too...:/ not just the lamb....and they make it there, so I wonder how expensive it is when they are not importing the meat from another country? Meh, oh who knows....lol

Yeah it would be interesting to know how much it costs in New Zealand.
