I don't know what to do!
I am going out of my mind because I currently feed my kitten whiskas which i know is not a good food/brand and her poop stinks!

I want to try and find an affordable kitten food in the form of pouches or trays.
I physically can't stand wet canned food at all and nor can anyone else in my family sadly.
I need a brand that makes pouches/trays that are affordable. Ideally I would like to spend under £25 a month on the food.

My kitten is 5 months old so if anyone could find me something that would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks :-)

Im not sure what the difference in wet food in a can, and wet food in a try or pouch is?
some canned foods are chunks or shreds, like you get in a pouch. Is it the pate canned food you have a problem with?

Are you in the UK? If you are, you can look at these threads for suggestions:

ZooPlus is a popular UK / European pet supply web site you can take a look at and see what brands are available in the local stores.

I suggest buying cans of food instead of pouches and trays. Pouches and trays tend to be food in gravy / sauce / etc and there more liquid that actual food. Cans of pate food is more food for the money. You can add water to make "gravy".

I have a problem with canned foods because of the vile smell you get when you open it and feed it and put it away.. that smell is supposed to mean it's a good food I know but I hate it!
I prefer pouches because there easier but no have not come across a good brand and the same with the trays... the trays are really expensive though!

Is fancy feast, maybe the grilled varieties available in your area? They are not bad, smell wise or price wise. And i would feed the whole 3 oz can at one time. no left overs :) at her age she needs lots of food, so i would feed her at least 3 cans a day, maybe more. She should have all of the food she wants to grow and develop.

I think you will have a hard time finding something in a pouch, or try that is a good food, at an affordable price. Whiskas pouches that i know of have a LOT of fiber, way more than i would feed. This could be part of the problem with the stinky poo. ?? maybe some of the links LTS3 posted will help.

I like wet food, and Fancy feast, or friskies is the most affordable that i know of. you might want to try a few if you can find them, not all wet foods stink. If you cannot find a wet that you can feed you may need to feed dry food, the best you can afford. cats need high protein, moderate fat, and low carbs. But i hate to see a cat get all dry. If you do, you will need to be sure to put out lots of fresh clean water, and maybe invest in a water fountain for the cat.

Also, if you have not had her to the vet you should. If a cat has parasites, and almost all kittens do if not treated, they can have stinky poo.

Cat food stinks. There’s no way around it. Even dry food smells. Just something that comes with the territory, like cleaning a litter box. You’re limiting your options a lot by only wanting to feed pouches.

True. I can still cancel the return for the cans listed in my first post that I bought. I was thinking that maybe finding 3 small tubs and put the 3 portions or food to feed for that day into them and give them each at the correct time to my kitten. This will mean she gets it at the correct times and It won' be too hard because It limits me actually taking it out and putting it into her bowl etc...

What do you all think? I would love your opinions! You have all been ever so helpful so thank You!

I'm afraid I can' find it available. Only American sites come up. Thanks anyways. Please read my last comment and give me your opinion thanks!

LTS3 posted these links to others that talked about cat foods you should be able to find?

if you are asking if you can open 3 cans and put out in bowls and put the bowls out during the day? I guess you could, but i wouldnt do that to my cat. The open cans in those bowls will get old and not as good by the time you get them all fed. I guess if you covered them and put in the refrigerator maybe. But that seems like more work, and smell than just quickly opening a fresh can and feeding her? I would say hit the stores where you can buy canned food, try a lot of different varieties, and see which ones dont bother you so much? and if you try minced or shredded varieties, no pate its easier to quickly dump it in a plate and walk away. pate you have to spoon it out more?

As far as I can work out, the food that is called Fancy Feast in the US, is marketed in the UK as Purina Gourmet, which is available in most large UK supermarkets and pet supplies shops.

EDIT: You could also try Bozita wet food, it's high meat content and inexpensive - you're unlikely to find it in supermarkets or pet stores but I order from zooplus.co.uk

No no at the moment because the cans I've got are big I was wondering if I could get small containers and separate the contents of that one bowl and refrigerate the 3 bowls. Then when it' time to feed take one out warm a little and feed...

Yeah that is fine to do, just get a bowl out of the fridge half an hour before offering so it gets up to room temperature (not that having it cold will cause any harm, just they can't smell it properly if it's cold and may not eat as well). Make sure to cover the bowls with something so the food doesn't dry out, or have other stuff in the fridge dripping into it.

How do I know that there may be a problem with the need food ? I am going to leave her on the old food this week and next week I'm going to slowly add in the new food to her bowl slowly increasing the portion of it as time passes with her old food..

How do I / will I know there is a problem with the new food? How will I know if the new food is in fact making her poop yellow and really soft when she goes? Originally I just took away the old food and added the new food and she ate it but recently her poop changed to a lightish yellow not bright yellow and is really soft not too watery and stinky... that's why I changed her back to her old food because I thought I moved too fast and so was going to wait a week before I started again but slowly this time.

Well if you are getting soft yellow poops, that may need vet attention.

We are talking about wet food here aren't we? Generally it is ok to offer different wet foods from one meal to another (of course if your kitty is having a problem with that, get it checked out). It is rapid change of dry foods that is known to cause digestive upset and should be changed gradually.

Her new food was stopped yesterday morning and since then all day yesterday till next week she will be on her old food again. But her poop is still yellow and soft ... is this normal? Is this because her body is confused with all the food? I will continue to monitor her but she is eating all her food and is her usual self as far as I know

She does get wet poop here and there but not a lot. It's never been anything serious and she is her normal self otherwise ... I am on a budget sadly

I'm just confused, I gave advice about food, then you said something about yellow diarrhoea which is not normal - are you asking for food recommendations, or what to do about the diarrhoea?

If she has very soft/runny yellow stools then you need to take her to the vet. But I am very unclear about the situation.

Both :p
I gave her her new food and she supposedly got dihorrea so switched it back and still the same sadly ... is it the food change that caused this ?
