Hello :) I have a 2 year old modern Siamese who I adore but his urinating outside the litter box is very annoying and we are going on holiday soon and have booked for him to stay at a pet sitter place but now I feel like we will have to cancel as his pee outside litter box almost every day. He sometimes uses litter box but sometimes he doesn’t. He likes to wee in the sink, his cat post, couch sometimes shoes , sometimes in our bags . I don’t want him to have to go to a Cattery as he needs lots of attention. Also last time I left him at home and got someone to check on him once per day when I came back he was so cuddly and obviously missed me lots and the sitter said he was scared first few times. I’m so stressed now because don’t want him to pee all over the sitter couch and I have to pay for it and be embarrassed. I adopted him when he was 1 from a shelter I have no idea what happened to him before this. All I know he is very loved and we never yell or do anything to cause stress. He has cat flu ( doesn’t show any signs after we adopted him and doesn’t that show up when he is stressed?) he also had an umbilical herina that was fixed while he was in the shelter don’t know if that relates to anything. He has had his blood and urine checked by vet.

I feel like I have tried everything!

Things I have tried- still using
1) three litter boxes for 1 cat ( used to be 2 but vet said maybe even try 3) and if pretty much every room of house
2) change the litter type multiple times it seems like he will sometimes wee in it and sometimes not. He always poo in his litter box
3) he has at his blood and urine checked and he came back all good
4)I do change litter and scoop frequently
5)Feliway diffuser is in house and in room where he hangs out most and these accidents happen most
6) Feliway spray on everything he does it it on he seems to have stopped doing it on his scratch post but I caught him yesterday doing it on the leather couch ( this is our third couch we have to through out two other ones before this that due to his urine )
7) cleaning with nature miracle and urine off etc enzyme cleaner
8) I try and lock him now out of bedroom because he always finds a place to pee in there
9) I also have two litter boxes I made that are huge they are platic boxes with wheels you store stuff ( took off wheels) and he loves those and uses them the most frequent to do poo and sometimes wee in and also one smaller normal size one be barley uses. He has had an automatic one but he didn’t really like the crystals and didn’t use it that much. This litter I have is the one he uses must frequently out of all of the ones I’ve tried so I don’t think it is a litter problem

He sometimes cry non stop to me and then will go to litter box ( I think he trying to say he doesn’t like it ?!) and then he will get into it on his own .

And other times I just catch him randomly silent peeing in my sink and on my bed and on my couch haha help please

Does he have FLUTD? If so get him on some food for it-helped my boys a ton. Also try feeding/giving him treats on places you want him to not use as a litter box (cats dont like to pee where they eat)

Hi. When my boy cat was having pee problems, I gave him a full 5.5oz can of wet food per day, half in the morning, the other half at night. Try to limit the dry food if you can. They need the moisture from the wet food to keep their pee flowing right, so that it doesn't hurt coming out. If it hurts, they avoid the litterbox. I hope this helps.

Ah yeah I used to put his bed and his toys on the couch but then he used to pee on the side of couch I might try to feed him that food even if the vet said he doesn’t have it. I’m willing to try it will go buy some today

I only feed him wet food as I read it’s bad to give them dry food. And he has two water bowls away from his food as I read they don’t like it near the food

i agree with the wet food! And as much filtered water as he will drink. Do you have a water fountain? I have 4 cats, some prefer a bowl some prefer the running water in the water fountain. i keep several of both out, the bowls i rinse and refill with refrigerator filtered water twice per day. Run through the dish washer every other day. Fountains i dump and refill every other day, tear down and clean once a week. The cats like clean cold water, just like i do :)

Dr elsey also has a cat attract litter, and an additive that you can add to current litter. If you have not tried it you might want to?

Are there ferals or neighborhood cats roaming around your house? Assuming he is pain free, I might look there. Also I would board him in a kennel if the pet sitter can't go to your house. If he is stressed he will pee more; new territory = stress =pee at the pet sitter's home.

Now assuming you have made your front & back yards unappealing to other animals and nothing works ... maybe try prozac? It worked for some problem pee-ers.

Welcome Livserenity Livserenity and family to TCS! Your little guy is very, very handsome! I read your post over twice and my first question is: is he neutered? I strongly suggest that he be neutered right away, if he has not been already. And my second question is: Does he have a good, trusted regular veterinarian? I would suggest he be checked out by him or her at once, even if he has had a recent checkup.
You may want to look at some of the videos cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy has on YouTube. He's also known as the "Cat Daddy" and hosts the Animal Planet show, "My Cat From Hell". He has good suggestions to help with this type of issue. Please keep us updated, and wish you all the very best!

Yes he is desexed. I have watched that show before but not in-depth will have to look at it for some pointers I’ve seen to have done everything on the internet beside getting a cat behaviouralist in the one the vet quoted me on is $500 :( currently his food, toys and bed are on the couch along with tin foil to prevent him for doing it yet I’ve just caught him doing it just now! I really don’t want to send him to a cattery when I am on holiday but I can’t afford to have him wee on someone couch and have to pay for a new one! I have taken him to two different vets both which say it is behaviour! :( I’ve never had this problem with an animal before. Thank you all for your help! I will keep trying until something works

Hello:) I live in an apartment he is not allowed outside and has never come into contact with another cat since I have owned him and as far as I know there is no cats even on my level there may be a dog down the hallway but not too sure. I have lived in two apartments with him ( this one almost a year actually we moved for him to a pet friendly rental as the one before wasn’t) I was in the other apartment with him for maybe 3/5 months can’t really remember but he has had this problem since I adopted him. I will take your advice and place him in a kennel or maybe have someome here it’s just so expensive to have someone over here in Australia around $50-$70 a night but look into it a bit more as I care about my cat so much usually my sister minds him but cannot this time around

That is the one! I hope you can get it and I hope it will help him, and you.
It's such a mystery to me (and to you, too, I know!) as to why he is doing this. Cats don't do these things for no reason. There has to be a reason. I know my mom's late, great, pedigreed Siamese boy was quite a character and he used to leave her a "present" on the mat right inside the back door, very frequently :devilcat2: Of course, that was easier to clean up.
Hoping and praying for an answer for you so that you can all live in harmony! :geekcat:

Have you tried cat attract litter? People here swear it works. If I was having your issue and had tried everything my poor punk (or bud) would be going to the vet to try prozac or an anti-anxiety medication (it takes a couple of weeks to work. So no instant results.) I have jokingly said if I had to do my part siamese punk's hyper 7.5 years again he would be on prozac ;) though knowing me I would still choose letting him have outside time over drugging him. Those of us with siamese or siamese mutts feel your pain. We know how much you cherish your cat ... and how sometimes you want to give them a cold bath ;) or shave a reverse mohawk on them ;) Please hang in there. It takes time but I'm sure you can crack the code of why he pees out of his box.

Thank you I have just placed an order for that now! Hoping for it to work ❤
The vet told me to try with Feliway for 1-2 months and if this hasn’t worked ( it’s been 2 weeks at this point) try the behaviourist and if that doesn’t work she said he might go on some anti depressants! Idk I’ll have to look into that because that scares me a bit! Hopefully this problem can resolve before then. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me

Stick with the Feliway. It worked wonders for us when we had a similar problems.

One other thing. Do you use a hooded litter tray? Some cats like privacy when using the toilet.

I’m hoping he keeps weeing on the couch and I keep spraying Feliway on it . I just put some on it now will see in the morning if he has done something on it haha.

He used to have two different hooded ones but he didn’t like it so I removed the lid. I could maybe try even another one maybe like a extra large hood. I find he likes really large litter box hence why I made my own ones that he uses always to poo in but like only sometimes wee . Another litter box couldn’t hurt but running out of space to put them in our apartment haha

He has completely stopped wee on the scratch post I put Feliway on it daily . I just covered the couch in it now will end up being pretty expensive if I have to do it all the time . I do have the diffuser going off in the same room

Have you removed the door flap? My experience is cats don't always like pushing past so I always remove mine.

If he is crying to you it seems he must have a urinary problem of some sort. Cats NEVER urinate outside the box unless they have a problem. In your case you have covered all the other possible litter box avoidance poossibilities. If he is still pooping in his box it is not the litter or the box or the location. Since he is only peeing outside the box it signals he is hurting or in pain when he pees so he thinks it is the box and looks for any other location where he won’t hurt when peeing. Be sure your vet is checking his urine very carefully. You may need a blood test too. Buy the book « The Natural Cat » by Anitra Frazier. Use her feeding recommendations and read about solving litter box problems. Most illnesses and health problems are from cat food so start using her easy homemade cat food recipe and I bet your problems will go away. You can order the book on Amazon. The old version is called, « The New Natural Cat ». The biggest difference is the feeding recommendations include starches in the recipe. Try feline pine litter too, doesn’t smell at all except for a bit of pine and has no toxic chemical smells that are bad for your cat. Make sure to eliminate floor cleaners that he may walk on, since he licks his paws. Good luck!
