We got Captain Jack Sparrow back in 2007, I had just turned 12 at that time. We got him from The Stray Cat Blues INC. The foster family we got him from loved Pirates of the Caribbean and named him Captain Jack Sparrow. We thought the name was cute and kept it. He didn’t really become my cat until I was about 14. That’s when he began sleeping in my room, cuddling with me, and crying whenever I left or came home. His favorite spot in bed was on my shoulder or laying on whatever piece of technology was around. He also loved tearing up the carpet (much to my dad’s dismay) and drinking water for minutes on end. He also loved lunch meat and I’d give him some whenever I bought a hoagie, it got to a point where he'd recognize the Wawa bag.

We had a close call with him a few years ago. He ended up having so much calcium in his urine that he needed surgery but recovered quickly and was great afterwards. About a year ago, he started losing weight rapidly. We took him to the vet and discovered he had diabetes. We put him on insulin and he did great, he gained weight back and his back legs were strong again. He took a turn for the worse on February 3rd. I was away at school, so my dad and the vet decided what was kindest for him.

I’ve had trouble dealing with guilt, wondering if there was something that could have been done or at least wishing I’d been home when he passed. I’m trying to think of the good times and remembering that I was lucky to have him and get an extra year with him. To honor him, I got a tattoo of him on my wrist.

I love you Jack, you deserved more time, but you’ll always be with me.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's always hard when we lose our fur baby's. Especially when their so loving and cuddly which obviously he was. I'm sure your dad and the vet done what they thought was best and he's in a better place and not in any pain.

I lost my little guy Feb. a year ago and I think it's normal to feel a little guilty...like I should have done more or I should have seen this or that earlier. We do the best we can and that's all we can do. Take solace in the fact that he lived a fairly long life, you gave him a good home and, he was loved very much.

I firmly believe that even though they are no longer with us in body that they remain in spirit and watch over us from above. I'm sure he wouldn't want you to be sad or have any regrets. I know it's hard but it gets easier with time. Cherish the memories and the time you had with him and keep him in your heart. The tattoo of him is awesome! Someone done a great job! It looks just like him. I can't think of a better way to honor him!
 Rest in peace Captain Jack Sparrow...

I sorry for the loss of your brave and handsome Captain Jack Sparrow.
You both were definitely close friends and he had a wonderful life with you.
He's at the Bridge now, and keeps having a wonderful life, while waiting to be reunited one day.
RIP Captain Jack Sparrow

He was such a handsome boy! Your tribute to him was lovely, and your tattoo will be a constant reminder of his love. Do not feel guilt for something you had no control over, he would be the last one to want to bring grief into your life. Try not to dwell on all those should haves, could haves, they bring nothing but grief and sorrow, and nothing changes. You have your precious memories to bring you comfort, and you will always have his love, for love is spiritual, so eternal. Of course it hurts to have him go, his physical presence is greatly missed. But every time you remember him it will eventually bring you comfort and peace knowing you gave him such a wonderful home, loving care, and most of all, your heart.
Use the bond you developed with him over the years to keep him in your life, that bond can never be taken from you, not even death has control over love. He shared your life's path for a little while, his journey will continue along a new path but will forever follow your own. He will never be far, just say his name and he will be there, offering you his love and accepting your own.
My heart breaks for the pain you are going through. Time is the only thing that mends a broken heart. The scar it leaves behind is always a reminder of what was, but in time it will be full of happy and content memories, not full of tears and pain. Do something good in Captain Jack Sparrow's name. it will help you feel better about yourself, and will leave a wonderful tribute in his name. Donate food and litter to your local shelter, or plant a flower in his name. He would be honored in this way. everytime you look at that little face on your wrist, know that you were loved and he was the one that gave it.Take care......RIP dear Captain Jack Sparrow. May the good Lord bless and welcome you, until you meet the one that misses you so dearly once more. Good night, sleep tight, little Prince!

I am so sorry that you lost your little friend, but unfortunately it was his time to leave even though no one wanted him too, no amount of time with them is ever enough, but he is fine now, not hurting anymore, just fine, it is you who understandably is heartbroken but with time, a long time, you will slowly start to accept it and feel a bit better. I am sorry he couldn't stay with you longer physically but he will always be in your heart and mind and wrist now, and memories last forever.....

Your feelings are normal. Most of us have similiar thoughts when we loose our beloved companions. In time you will feel better, the thoughts will diminish and the hurt will lessen. One day you will likely have another special feline buddy, not a replacement for Jack, but a different buddy who will make you laugh and love. I speak fom experience.

Thank you so much for your kind words. And yes, I agree with you totally. I got the tattoo to remind me he's watching over and not truly gone. Thanks again for your support! <3

Those are all good ideas! I think I'll make a donation to the local SPCA :) Thanks for your kind words and support

Yes, time is like a much needed balm. Luckily we still have our kitty Snowflake who has been cuddling me while I wallow lol. I hope to get another feline this summer when I've had another month to grieve.

It sounds like Captain Jack was a wonderful companion. I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's never easy to lose them, but especially hard when they are part of our growing up memories. I'm glad you have Snowflake to help you through the tough times. :heartshape:

Rest you gentle, Captain Jack, dream you deep. Your pawprints are on someone's heart forever.

I'm sure that your dad and the vet did what they thought was best for Captain Jack. We always want more time, but at what cost? Darlin', there is no cause for guilt, although that is a very human reaction. He knew that he was loved, and that the time he had was filled with loving care and joy. No creature on this earth can ask more than that. And love never dies, you know. It changes form, but it continues as love, and it abides. He is with you still.

Your post and photos of Jack brought tears to my eyes (I'm at work, too!). I understand the loss of a pet, and it is so incredibly difficult. You and your family did your best for Jack and I am sure he knows that, wherever he is now. My Frodo still occasionally visits me in my dreams. Hugs <3

Yeah, he's the first pet I have the memories of passing away so it's tough. I don't know if Snowflake misses Jack or my sister but I am happy for his cuddles lol.
