He loves fish but tested severely allergic to salmon, which is the only fish they test for. Since all the vets are so convinced that the food allergy tests are so unreliable they don't believe in them and won't test for any more foods and said the way to tell is trial and error. Stupid with a cat who also has so many environmental allergies that are out of control as how can anyone tell what food he's reacting to when he's still reacting to everything in his environment? And if I'm still treating him for environmental allergies how will I know if the treatment is working if I'm feeding him a food that it's unknown he's allergic to?
It's easy to say just keep him on a strict limited diet, except he won't eat one. So starve him? He had no sores and was doing great for a while on his current diet and the immunotheraoy injections. Then my fridge died and my landlord wouldn't replace it for almost two weeks and the allergy injections stopped working took two more weeks to special order new ones and he basically went a month without effective treatment. Started scratching again during that time.
OMGosh,, I do not know what to say, except: ((HUGS)) ---- We are here for you!!
With Love...

Thanks, I appreciate it. He's not in dire shape it's just frustrating to have him constantly scratching and grooming and constantly having huge bleeding sores and looking like an abuse case. The only thing that's worked best is steroid shots, but long-term steroids in high doses killed my last dog from suppressing his immune system so he died within a day of a sudden massive infection, he had sores too at the end.
The immune system can be scary and complicated.
Hope you and Artie are feeling better and Artie is pooping lots, in his litter box, and eating well!

Thanks, you're sweet. Inky passed away in June. This cat was his little buddy Ruby.
Yes it's illegal and against the lease to not provide a tenant with a working refrigerator. I gave them receipts for all the food I had to replace and paid $200 less on my rent check. They got pissed and said it was not approved and I'm responsible for food and I owed it. I said not without a working refrigerator and I was being nice and not charging for all the medicines I had to replace and excacerbation of illnesses without treatment so really you owe me $600 and that's not counting the mold that's been there for a year making me sick.
I'll keep fighting but don't want them to not renew my lease.
Landlords in this state, especially in the city do whatever they want. There's so many students and young professionals they have no problem renting and they get rid of complainers fast. I'm only complaining this much because my neighbors have told me they've complained more and have threatened to sue, and gotten good results and have been there for years.
But this is Artie's thread, do I appreciate the kind words but don't want to infringe on his army. He has more complicated stuff going on.
Little Ruby just has allergies to everything and now asthma from the allergies but eats and poops pretty well, as long as I feed him what he wants. I just worry that his system is so sensitive, I'm afraid to vaccinate him or give him any medicines. He had a violently bad reaction to an antibiotic once, clavamox I think. He was four or five days into it and within an hour or less of taking it, he vomited several times and had a few bouts of awful smelly diarrhea, which he never has. The vomiting was violent too. Vet didn't believe it was related because it was four or five days into the meds and an hour after the dose. Idiot. I'm NEVER giving him that again. Same thing with asthma, he only has asthma symptoms after being exposed to an allergen or after too fast and increase of immunotherapy dose, not all the time like Inky who had asthma too. Vet says is atypical symptoms, so it's still symptoms.

Hope Artie had a good day of eating and pooping and you guys stayed warm and cozy!

A quick Artie update..

Artie had a fairly good week-end. He was eating and pooping. It is so strange: I can tell when the poops are from the Fiber Response food and when they are not.. It is as if they are not mixing, in his system..

Yesterday, he had a 10 inch clump.. Friday, he had one poop episode, which consisted of 2 different consistencies of poop.. One was from the FR, darker color and harder. He shook his bum, and then it went to the junk food poop--grayer and soft.. weird...
But He pooped!!

Going to continue with the probiotic. I think it does help him form poops..

Artie was keeping me up all night~~ He decided to sleep on, and take over a pillow. Now, that may be fine for some people, but I toss and turn all night long!!! therefore, I did not get much sleep.. Artie was there.. with his butt in my face, if I turned!!
Afraid of getting 'present' on my face.. gross..

He does have the zoomies!! At least once, if not twice a day.. Upon me getting up, and laster during the day.. not for very long, but he does zoom around.
And he will periodically go up to one of his toys, bat it around a bit, use it as a kicker toy...

For the past half hour or so, Artie has been coming up to me.. He wants to be brushed and then played with.. I can tell.. He is staring at me..

Gotta go....

:hyper: :insertevillaugh: :hellocomputer:

FWIW, I do have a waterproof pillow cover on the pillow.. I just keep extra pillowcases out for my bed!!! :redtongue:

Had an appointment this morning; came home, called Artie as I was taking my boots off.
He did not come over~~ strange, I thought.. Then, I looked up, and there he was; coming out of the kitchen! He was eating a bit more.... and there was a poop spot, where he was sitting.. :gaah:

He kept coming up to me.. I could not read his mind. I tried to ask him what he wanted. He never replied..:ruminating: I picked him up a couple of times, even wiping his bum..He hates me to pick him up.. but he was purring.. put him down, still after me.. I have no idea what he wants... :gaah:

Finally, he settled down, on top of his quilt..:sleepycat:

It could be possible that he is losing muscle control over his bowels. I had a dog that apparently was hit by a car when she was a puppy, before I adopted her. She was a stray. The rest of her life she walked with a limp, favoring her left rear leg. One would assume that she had broken that leg, but the vet showed me her X-ray. Her whole pelvis was shattered during the accident, the leg was not broken. Another couple had adopted her right after her accident. Luckily they literally saved her life, found her at the accident, took her to the vet, I kept that same vet when I adopted her. To make a long story short, when she reached senior years, she started to lose control over her bowels. I know Artie's situation is very different, but it would seem logical that it would be possible with all of his bowel problems, he may have reached that point where he will have a movement and not be aware that he had.

Glad to hear the overall good update on Artie! YOU GO, BOY! WE'RE WITH YOU!

And although I love hearing about other cats, and I want to, if the discussion goes beyond a post or two, and how their condition is similar to Arties, could we make a new thread to discuss them in depth? They deserve their own special place here, and it cuts down on a bit of confusion on occasion! BY ALL MEANS DON'T STOP POSTING, just give your cat his own SPECIAL place, and feel free to link it here so we can all find it!

Maybe I'll start a allergy thread about Ruby. I did start one with questions a few months ago but it didn't sound like many people had done the same type of treatment. I'll let you know if I do! Thanks for the condolences about Inky tarasgirl.
I've heard it's not uncommon for senior dogs to lose control of their bowels as they age. My last dog had some issues with that but he had a degenerative spinal disease with increasing hind end paralysis so it made sense.
I haven't heard of that with cats. My twenty year old cat had trouble her last few days but had arthritis and cancer so had trouble walking and getting around in general. My other senior or cancer cats seemed ok unless they couldn't walk at the very end from health problems, but I've never had a cat with Artie's specific medical issues. My current dog has ibd but is very young and active.
Seems like a question for N vet? Or if Artie has diarrhea maybe that's tough for him to control?

Hey all of AA (Artie's Army)!!
Artie had a good week-end. He did have some gas, resulting in many tiny pop-up poops, all over. I cut down on the miralax and the colace.

He has been pooping; eating his junk food. He seems to like the dry, Fiber Response food during the night. Artie eats about 1/3 can of food.

Yesterday, he pooped a pile of 4 x 3 x 2 cow patty..
Eating about 1 small can of food per day..

I had a very busy day yesterday, once I left the house at noontime, I was back and forth the rest of the day, until 9pm.. then I had to follow-up a phone call.

Artie was so happy to see me when I finally came home! Zoomies all over the place!! He wanted to play so badly ~~ wanted my attention. He was upset because I had to ignore him~ poor neglected little boy. Artie had to resort to playing with his toys; his nice fluffy terrycloth ball. It appears that he does miss me, when I am not home.

Woke up late this morning; Yes Artie was my wake up call.

Another busy day. I think I am going to return the case of food to the Vets, for a refund. I can use the money today... had an "ouchey" with my car.. yup, my fault.. so I need all the money I can get..

Yup, yesterday was NOT a good day for me.. sigh..

Have to open up another can of food.. my mistake, again! I got the flaked beef in gravy, instead of the pate. Artie does not care for flaked food. He licks the gravy and walks away.

So sorry to hear about the vehicular mishap -- and hope it does not cost too much
Hope Artie stabilizes and starts eating more of his good foods! :anticipation::redcat: and hope you, and he, have a much better day today.;)
