I noticed about a month ago swelling on the bridge of my cat Aussie’s nose. She’s 2/12, no other symptoms, eats and plays normal. I took her to the vet a few weeks ago and she was put on a course of steroids which helped somewhat but did not clear the swelling. He didn’t seemed concerned and said to keep an eye on it as he’s seen a fair amount of cats with the same issue. Has anyone experienced this with their cat? Or know the cause? Any solutions other than steroids?
Thanks!

I hit google, and came up with a few thousand possibilities, so there was no real help there. It could be anything from a simple lipoma (fatty tumor with no cancer at all) to fungal infections, bacterial infections, viral infections, to cancers. The lipomas seem to be fairly common, in fact, and unless they grow to large, aren't much of an issue. I think your vet has the right of it...keep an eye on it, and if it starts growing, changing, or abscesses, don't fret overly much.

How long have you had your cat - is the swelling a new thing? My cat has a bump on the bridge of his nose but he was born with it and it's never changed.

I’ve had her since she was 8 weeks. She’s always had a very slight bump on the bridge of her nose but this is definitely much larger and more noticeable.

That is helpful.
Is the lump hard and feel like bone / cartilage, or softer? Mobile if you touch it?
Only lump I have dealt with for any of my cats was a sebaceous cyst at the base of one of their tails but it doesn't sound like your vet thinks it is anything like that.
I hope you manage to find out what is happening and hopefully the lump subsides - but most of all that she is healthy.

Did you ever figure out what this is? My foster cat has the same bump. She has an appointment in two days but we are worried. It’s gotten more prominent in the last week.

What is the issue here that your vet commonly comes across? Is it just he general bump or does he know the cause? Our cat tested negative for a fungus that can cause the bump. She is acting normal. It feels hard.

No, I never did find out. It hasn’t got worse which is a good thing?? No other syptoms either. She’s in to see the vet in a couple weeks for her shots so he’ll have another look at it then and go from there. Please let me know what your vet says! All the best to your foster kitty!

Just wanted to share the Vet was barely concerned about the bump. She said if a feral cat had come in with it, she would have not thought twice about it. It could be a cyst, foreign body, inflammation, early cancer or something else. The only way to know is a radiograph or CT scan but she said at this time, she recommended monitoring rather than an X-ray. My cat is acting normal so she didn’t do anything. She said cancer and cryptococcus aren’t at the top of her list right now and she is fine basically just to monitor.

Thanks so much for the update! I’ve just been monitoring as well and nothing of concern has appeared other than the bump.

Hello, I know this post is old but desperate. My kitty has same issue but can't undergo x-rays or anything else because he can't have anesthesia. What happened to your beautiful kitty? Did growth get worse? Was it fungus, cancer, bacterial? Thank you if you're able to reply.

Any xrays taken? Maybe your vet should consider some type of imaging to see what it is

Did you ever find out what was wrong with Aussie? My British shorthair has developed a similar nose bump with no other symptoms either 🤷🏻‍♀️

My kitten has this same issue. She has a firm bump on the bridge of her nose, no visible scars, cuts or anything else. And the bump is not tender to the touch. She is a bit of a snorter and mouth breaths when she plays hard/fast. All other behavior is normal.
I would like to hear a follow up.
