Just a very short, quick update-- not going into detail, please forgive me..

Artie has an abnormality in the blood test. We are trying one more thing to see if he picks up.. if not, he is to be hospitalized, where they will try one last thing to stabilize his blood work. If not, I will take him into the hospital tomorrow afternoon.. I have too many appointments/commitments tomorrow morning.

I am to give Artie any food he wants tonight to see if he picks up. At this point he has to eat something..anything.

I promise you that you will all know one way or another. Either from me or someone else.. my guardian angels....

Thank you to all...
love...
Our heartfelt *PRAYERS* continue for the golden kinglet ARTIE to do a 180 and start eating, drinking and doing all of the good things right away! We love you, Artie! C'mon, little man! :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::redcat::cheerleader::heartshape::hearthrob::redheartpump::hugs:

I will post quickly... Artie is still here...and I am exhausted..
Artie had more blood tests this afternoon.. he was very feisty with the techs... I guess, in the past, he bit someone, so he has a PRECAUTION on his Records.... he is a bad boy...
.. many conversations with NVet thru his Secretary or in person at the hospital..

Dr Brum, took time out from seeing his scheduled patients in order to come over and personally talk to me....I just love him... I am in awe of him...I get tongue tied when I have to speak to him, because I admire his greatness; and so does the entire staff, everywhere at Angell Memorial Hospital.

NVet was a tiny bit more reassuring.. we have to just kind of start all over, until we can figure this out one way or another. If it means a few more enemas, more blood work, and additional x-rays, to look for cancer.. then so be it.. but NVet is not out of options, at this point in time. and he is taking colace, in place of the lactulose.. It did not work in the past, but we will try again.. he can even try the human dose of it. NVet is willing to try anything that may help; but not to prolong things and experiment.

It does not necessarily mean that he will off of lactulose completely..depending on the blood tests and his response, he MAY be able to take a tiny bit of it..

Since Artie is eating his junk food...and is crawling into a Trader Joe's bag, as I type, and is peeing, he does not have to be hospitalized. If he was not eating and peeing, then it would be a different story. He is eating his 'junk' food.

NVet is off next week. He has an associate who is up to date about Artie. If needed, I can take him in to the associate for an enema next week.
NVEt, Dr Brum, told me he would be in contact with me.... even being on vacation.

Blood tests may not be available for a couple days....

I absolutely trust the team of: Dr Brum, Jen and the entire staff at Angell... how ironic.. such a name for a remarkable Vet hospital. I will forever be grateful for being able to take Artie there to see Dr Brum... and forever thankful to the person who suggested it....you know who you are..I do not want to embarrass you, but I am forever in your debt for this...Yes, accept it.. do not feel embarrassed.. or ill at ease.

I will probably not be doing daily posts... and if one of my personal angels will post for me... please do not be offended.... it just means that I am burnt out, upset, or just cannot do it....

thank you to all for your love, support, caring....(((HUGS)))

I forgot to add.. because of the abnormal blood test results: very highly elevated calcium level, Artie needed additional blood testing...He has a special ionized calcium assay and a parathyroid panel, drawn today.....

If these come back normal..and he does not respond ---then there will be further investigation, looking for cancer.
However, the most common cause of hypercalcemia in cats is idiopathic, (unknown)..it just happens...His readings are so high, that it is above the level where you would think it was caused by the lactulose.

Thank you for taking time at the end of your stressful and exhausting day to update all of us on dear Artie.

Give him an extra big hug from me. :hugs: And tell him my orange kitty, Ruby, hopes he feels better soon. :catrub:

Take care of yourself, too. Only post when you feel up to it. And we absolutely will not be offended if one of your personal angels posts on your behalf.

Hello, Artie's Army!

I see that Cindy has already posted, so I'll just add a couple of details, at her request.

For the last month or so, management in Cindy's apartment building has been renovating, in the most aggravating way possible. This has been extremely hard on both Cindy and Artie, and the stress has complicated an already difficult situation for Artie. The last few days have been something of a roller coaster emotionally for Cindy, especially after the night when Artie snuggled in a way that he doesn't normally, being especially loving and sticking to her like Velcro, as if he were saying "I'm ready to go. I love you. Goodbye." As you can imagine, this totally freaked Cindy out, especially since we've all told her that Artie will tell her when he's ready to go. That may well have been what Artie meant, but Artie isn't a doctor and Cindy has decided to trust Dr. Brum instead. I believe this is wise of her, especially since Artie seems to have recovered from his (presumed) bout of existential angst now that he has junk food to feed his kitty soul.

Cindy has now declared that she's going to stay home, relax, and have a little bit of fun during the current snow storm. It sounds like an excellent plan to me, considering the whirlwind she's been through during the last week or so, on top of a year of nothing but caring for and worrying about Artie. Therefore, barring emergencies, we shouldn't be expecting her to post here for a while. @Mamanyt1953, @margd, or I will post any minor updates that should come up.

It's nearly Christmas. Last year, Cindy was planning to take Artie in for euthanasia immediately after Christmas mass. Artie has had a whole extra year, thanks to Cindy's care of him, @LTS3's referral to Dr. Brum and organization of a fund-raiser for Artie, and the support of everyone here. It hasn't been easy, for anyone, but it has been extremely worthwhile. This is the closest thing to a Christmas miracle that I have ever seen. We can all be proud of ourselves, and of Artie and Cindy. :worship:

The high level of calcium scared me! Luckily there are easiest explanations.
Come on Artie, we're still here, for you, with you!!!
