What an absolutely uplifting story! I wish Lauren all the luck and pray she is successful in raising the money she needs! It is so uplifting to know there are people like her in the world, we need a lot more like her! She needs prayers too, to be successful, with right and determination on her side she can't fail!

So I believe that I am going to make the drive and possibly bring home my new foster today. They called and I'm not working as it' like 15 out brrrr! I'm excited as he's a giant Manx kitty who does leak some poop but I think him and my boys will get along as he's playful. Big guy is locked in a cage bcz he is after an older kitty at the rescue (they do let him out when they can watch him or I come and play with him). He will finally have a place to run again.

I just noticed she's joined the forums around the time she approached me and I'm happy to see that she's become an active member! :clapcat: She's Lauren4883 Lauren4883 and I'll send her a link to this post too!
(On another positive note - we'll be switching email notifications for the @ mentions back on for all members real soon! This time there will be an option to switch the feature on and off too, so every member can choose whether or not they want to get them).

My flowering gum is covered in pink flowers and rainbow lorikeets.. it's one of the most wonderful sights. The birds eat themselves silly and then come down and fight over who gets the birdbath first. It's deafening and very joyful.

mani mani You have such amazing birds Down Under. I can't imagine having such colorful ones in our backyard, though I do get a kick out of the magpies, ravens, and crows. They play with everything.

One of the kakarikis (red-crowned parakeets) at the shelter is still trying to bark, but he isn't as convincing as the parakeet that meowed and the parrot that imitated a smoke alarm.

That is hilarious!!! Did everyone go into fire-drill mode when the parrot started up?

We used to have a budgie that made the sound of coins being counted because he sat on the desk where the money was totalled up at the end of the day. He would also say 'all done'. :)

I did. The first time she did it was at 7 a.m. on a Sunday, when I was alone at the shelter. I went through every room twice. I didn't catch on till the third time she did it - while I had my back turned to her, but was in sight. Smart bird!

We used to have neighbors whose cockatoo screamed, "Help! Police!". They had to put a sign beside their doorbell explaining that it was a bird screaming, not a woman.

There's currently a cat film festival in New York: The NY Cat Film Festival Is Here. And No One’s Allergic to Movies.
After this weekend, the festival will tour the country, with part of the sales at each site benefiting a local animal welfare organization. (In New York, it’s the NYC Feral Cat Initiative.)

Thanks so much, @donnae for your concern. Thankfully, my gardeners arrived this morning, late, and were able to fix the posts and guy-wires to my little tree once again. I was up several times in the night praying it would make it, as the high winds returned late in the night.
We are safe here, and so thankful for that. I am praying for those in the zones, and for the amazing firefighters and first responders who risk their lives to keep strangers safe and lives as unaffected as possible.
And for me, there is nothing more comforting and reassuring than the soft warmth of purring cats beside me at night.

Almost a year since I joined this thread, and over 1.5 years since I adopted Simon. I found that this site is the most resourceful and helpful. I always get great responses, and feel it is a great community for cat owners and lovers alike to get valuable, credible information from knowledgeable, caring people all around the world. Very glad I found you guys! Save the kitties! MEOW :D

I'm glad it does NOT snow here although I grew up with it. Now I consider snow to belong on picture postcards. If I really think that I need to see snow in person a drive on the Freeway for 2 hours will take me to Wrightwood where it snows every winter and the ski slopes are groomed. If not enough for that they MAKE snow with some big machine and water for the slopes. It's not wasted water because when this man-made snow melts it will sink into the ground and replenish the aquifer a bit.
I prefer to stay home with my warm fluffballs, a cup of chocolate or a hot toddy, a good book or a film. That's what I consider heaven in the frigid temps of SoCal, lol!:petcat::chessirecat::catlove::purr:
Ah, @segelkatt -- that is so near my former home in the Mojave! Wrightwood and the 2 adjoining communities are called the Tri-Communities by those of us who live, or lived, "up the hill". We used to see the snow-blowers going late at night on the slopes up there, lit up like a holiday house, behind our land.
Those were the best days!

I spent the morning at work fixing a fancy inkjet printer. It was worth the time I spent on it. All cleaned out and working like new. Now the four hundred dollars in ink cartridges I have won't go to waste.

Some more work photos, most of the non-cat photos I post are work photos. They get to go to some really interesting places and I get stuck in the office. At least I don't have to work outside in the winter time :)

We got kitty window perch round 2 last night, since the suction cups decided to quit working on the other one. This one screws into the sill, so hopefully it will be more sturdy. Mog sure loves to watch what's going on in the side garden and sun himself.
