Had the cub (ginger tabby) from the age of 4 months.
With me being retired and my wife still working i had plenty of time to observe, play and enjoy many treasured moments with him. Cub was always treated as a member of the family.
He would come with me on walks across fields, running ahead to hide in longer grass and jump out to surprise me when i approached. The head bumps, kneading and purring, tail in the air, hooked at the tip, etc. A much loved and loving cat. From time to time when looking at him i thought, such a big healthy looking cat must have a great hope of a long life.
Every day was a total delight to all the senses.
Watching him grow into what my wife would call her big beautiful boy.

A few weeks ago he became a bit lethargic and drinking more water than usual. Vet checked him on sat 25 nov and requested we observe him over the weekend to see if he could pee and bring him in on monday morning for blood tests and a scan.
Called at the vets on monday afternoon for the results. (We had hoped to take him home)
Vet told us blood tests were very poor and the scan indicated large growths on both kidneys. Vets recommended surgery on tuesday morning and would ring when kidneys were checked to give their opinion but advised being prepared for the worst possible outcome.
Received the call at 10.50 am tuesday and vet requested permission to put cub to sleep.
Collected cub from the vets on tuesday afternoon and laid him to rest in the garden.

If possible i would have given everything i own to save him/have him with us, but that cannot be.
In total shock, possibly made worse by the speed of cubs passing. Just 4 years old.
Our great family member and big beautiful boy.
I never thought i could feel such agony and pain. Devastated by his passing.

I am sorry that you lost your friend, and being another male I understand what you are feeling, these little creatures work their way into our hearts and when they pass it doesn't matter man or woman or child it hurts like hell and will for awhile, and takes a good while to get over it. You did everything that you could and more, but sometimes it just isn't meant to be that we can save them, I learned that years ago, but you did a great thing for him years ago by taking care of him, it was just his time to leave for some reason.

You will find MUCH comfort here, these are wonderful people and we all understand how you feel and feel your pain. I hope your heart heals a bit more each day, God Bless you.....:alright: :grouphug: :rbheart:

Losing your pet is losing a family member.

I am very sorry about your loss.

I bet you were the absolute best Dad and that he had the best Mom.

Rest In Peace, Cub.

Oh, poor boy. It's never easy to lose them and perhaps doubly hard when it's so unexpected, and at a young age. I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm glad you have another fur-baby to help comfort you in your time of grief. RIP, little Cub. :rbheart:

Rest you gentle, Cub, dream you deep. Your pawprints are on someone's heart forever.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dear friend and family member. I will offer one small, cold comfort...he did not have to suffer through a long, slow decline with an ever-worsening quality of life. He was fine, then he was gone. I hope that for me, as well. But...that does not ease the ache in your heart, or lessen the missing of his sweet, warm weight at you side. I will tell you this, and maybe it will mean something to you later. Love does not die. Not ever. And I believe that animals have a purer soul than we do, existing in perfect innocence. He is still with you. He has not gone. Only his body has been left behind, as it could no longer house his loving spirit.

Cub would be the last one to want to bring such anguish into your life. He had 4 glorious years with those he loved above all else, and received all he ever wanted in life, a wonderful home full of love. He was your companion, your buddy, a wonderful member of your family. He held your love in his heart as he passed, he was with you in spirit. He took a little part of your heart along with him and left a part of his. You would have never wanted to see him suffer with the incurable. He depended on you to find the strength not to let this happen, and somehow you did. It was a last act of love, and you came through for him, for that he thanks you. But not as much as he thanks you for his wonderful life. For the long walks, for your feigned 'fright' every time he jumped out at you as the pretend tiger he was, for the warm laps you provided, and the comforting strokes when he needed them. He gave you back so much in return. Let your beautiful memories of that beautiful big boy bring you comfort, they are more precious than gold right now.
Please try not to dwell on the end, to let the sadness take over your life. It is not as he would want for you both. Just as you would want for him if you were the first to go, allow the sunshine back into your life because you know he is safe and at peace and will follow your life path for eternity, until you meet once more. The bond you have with that special boy will tie your souls together forever. It is something that not even death can take from you.
My heart goes out to you, I know the anguish you are going through and wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Hold on to each other, none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow, and yesterday can never be changed. Today is what we make of it, so honor what he left for you, his legacy of love, and make another happy just as he made you. Take care.........RIP beautiful Cub. You will never be forgotten and will be forever held in loving hearts. May the warmth of your love enter those hearts that miss you so dearly, and fill the emptiness that your passing left behind. May the good Lord bless and keep you, until you all meet again!

There isn't much to say when the fate is so unfair on a such a beautiful and young cat like Cub.
You didn't even have the time to realize what was going on, that's sad and painful.
You loved him very much, your words tell us everything of the bond you had with him, he loved you as much.
Both of you will love each other for the eternity and one day you'll be reunited, like everyone of us will be with their friends. That will be the most beautiful day.
RIP Cub!

Based on my experience of losing our cats over the years, the pain of the loss never completely goes away, but it does become manageable.

You will laugh again, you will feel good again and there will likely be more special cats in your life......for now take it one day at a time, do things you enjoy and look after Belle.

I am so sorry for your loss. Cub was a beautiful cat, and I know how painful it is losing him, I lost my best friend, Sheleg 3 weeks ago and am still in shock and grieving. I hope at least you can take a bit of comfort that he did not suffer and is now at peace.
Again so sorry for your loss.
Take care x
