Thank you, @raysmyheart, for your kind comments about my cats! Yes they are both very sweet and gentle. Tyler is a big love muffin who loves to be held, and Gracie was a semi-feral cat who now loves to jump up on my lap to get petted. She's very sweet and shy. Where Tyler is just the opposite. He is not shy at all. He'll just walk up to anybody and start sniffing them. He loves to be held like a baby. He jumped into my parked car 11 years ago when I was just about to get out (1st time we met) and then he followed me when I was walking over to my apartment. Sophie (my Rainbow Bridge Kitty) was not amused. It took about 3 months but then they became good friends. Tyler and Gracie are not best buds yet, but they do hang out together and play together sometimes, so I think they do have a friendship and keep each other company.

Holy cow - is it that time again already? I've tried to make my milestone posts amusing and educational - witness my one thousandth post, which included a photo of myself and Bob, taken at the summit of Mount Everest in June, and my two thousandth post, with its photo taken from inside the crater of Mount Agung while it was erupting. Well, here we are again, now at post three thousand, but this time, it will only be educational for me - and then only if someone knows the answer!

Every year, my largest, oldest walnut tree throws down at least one enormous walnut - usually nearly twice average size.. a Walnut Of Unusual Size, if you will (or, "as you wish"). I don't know the cause. Maybe it's genetic; maybe its the result of having been bitten by a radioactive squirrel, or maybe she's the Queen Walnut, and all the worker walnuts feed her Royal Jelly or Royal Gelatin or Big Macs with extra fries. Anyway, here she is, pictured in an aerial view, next to a Walnut Of Usual Size:

I'd like to know why this happens, this Vastness Of Walnutdom, this Juglans Giganticus, this El Biggo Nutto. No doubt everyone would like to know the answer, including White Tip, who - also seen in bird's eye view - appears to be musing, "is this a special treat, just for Bob?"

That's all. Carry on. Nothing to see here. Move along; move along.

There are only two explanations for this:

1. Your Walnut has been up to some hanky-panky with a Redwood, OR
2. This creature is laying its eggs in your tree.

Congratulations with your three tousandth post !!! You make a difference on TCS, that's for sure.

The walnut question... I suggest to look for inspiration in your own cat family. The photo of the two walnuts is ver similar to a photo you posted of Bob and Scottie. Growth spurt, you know ? In this particular case a growth marathon ? And I guess your old walnut tree must be the result of a mix with a 'big breed' variety. I guess...
Enjoy your giant walnut salad ! It's delicous with avocado.

1CatOverTheLine 1CatOverTheLine I think the solution to your walnut question is pretty obvious. Here's a little equation I knocked together to explain it. It's only 6th grade stuff but it's adequate enough. It's either this or Oliver has nipped over and Bobbified your tree.
