I'm trying to find cat foods better quality than friskies that are 'NOT PATE' friskies cost 45¢ per 5.5oz can. Im trying to find something better than friskies that costs less than $1.00 a can.

I've found lots of low cost pate's not not flaked, bits, shreds, etc

Petsmarts house brand Authority is the only thing Ive found so far, doesnt anyone know of any others? (preferably something I can order online)

Tractor supply delivers from their website. They have grain free foods for .69/5.5 oz can. The Turkey and Giblets is a pate but the "chicken dinner" and "salmon dinner" are shreds in gravy.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you, their 5.5 oz cans are $.89 I believe, maybe a little lower. The quality is pretty good considering the price.

Edit: Just noticed you wanted non-pate, the trader joes is pate.
Taste of the wild has like cube chunks, but I think their cans are around $1.19, so a little over your budget.

Ive tried the trader Joe's stuff,at the time its was 59cents, wouldve been ideal if my cats ate any of it.

Good tips on the ToW, it's 24cans for $31 which is still better than most foods.

Purina Beyond and some varieties of Purina Pro PlanTrue Nature.
I wish I could find Purina Beyond or True Nature for that price! Beyond wet foods are $1.73/can here. I was buying True Nature on Chewy for .94/can but they increased the price recently :sigh:.

Sheba is lower cost and pretty decent and has shreds. I don't actually know how much it costs per once, but it might be worth looking at. My cat loved it until she decided that expensive food was the only food for her.

Sheba is pretty low calorie though, compared to friskies, so you end up paying much more per day. I hate when nice formulated, non-pate wet food looks cheap, until you look at the calories.... :fuming:

I never actually thought of that problem, because Ailish eats mostly pate. That's a good point.

Amazon has True Nature for $21.36/case (.89 a can). You can get it cheaper if you use subscribe and save. Depending on how many items in your order, you can get it as low as $18.16/case (.76 a can). The one I will link is the turkey & chicken entree in gravy.

I have been using S&S for years and love it. You do not have to have Prime to use it.

ETA link to other kinds.

Unfortunately, those are the 3oz cans. I was getting 5.5oz cans on Chewy. A case of 24 of the beef flavor was like $22 when I started buying it for my cat... Now it's $30 :(

my 3 cats are fussy. So far the only non friskies thing they eat is Koha Kangaroo, which costs a lot. both Taste of the Wild flavors are mostly fish ill pass on that.

Im VERY recently out of work, so now that Im not out 13hours a day I have the time to not feed they any dry meals, but I dont have the budget.

So far Petsmart's Authority and Tractor Supply would be ideal, 1 cat eats authority sometimes, other 2 hate it.

I would love more recommendations, if $1/5.5oz is not practical, anyone have a a few more suggestions of other foods that are still lower cost? (lets make the absolute cut off $1.50 per 5.5oz can - AND if someone has had crazy good luck with a pate Its worth a shot- my kitties do eat 1 friskes pate, they dont finish it, Ive tried a variety of other with no success yet)

You could try Holistic Select. Its 13oz cans are pretty cheap - but it is a pate. To my surprise, my cat was willing to eat it, when she normally doesn't even go near pates.

Ok everyone thanks for the suggestions, I made the trek to Tractor Supply, they only carried pate of the 4health stuff, the I bought 3 cans of each type anyway, miraculously theyve eaten 1 of the 3 variesties i tried so far, so good enough!

BTW the carry varieties of Blue Buffalo and Taste of the Wild for much cheaper than chewy.com (bought a bunch of those too).

If you have a Pet Valu in your town then I suggest Performatrin. My cats love the turkey stew flavor and a 13oz can is only $3.29CAD so if you live in America it would be cheaper.

Good call, I live neat a pet valu, Ive tried performin non-pate varieties, Ive had some success with Ultra Chicken stew its $1.39 for the 5.5oz can. Its what I buy when Im too lazy to drive far.

I split a 5.5oz can between 3 cats, all three eat it, but none of them finish it.

I still haven't found a trick to get the cats to eat left over cat food, half of those 13oz cans always get wasted. (sealed up and refrigerated, served; cold, heated in the microwave, let thaw at room temperature... Even the grazy heavy friskies stuff... they know!

Im pretty happy about the 4health stuff, $0.69 for 5.5oz can, no by-products and grain free

Authority wet food has done wonders for my boys along with simply nourish which is right around 99cents a can. I spent a fortune on all the big name big price foods and they wouldn't touch them. They preferred the McDonalds of cat food I was so frustrated so I tried authority and simply nourish as for authority there wet ingredients are much better than the dry IMO and the boys love it they have a lot of different flavors that aren't pate my boys love the pate in chicken and rice they also have grain free. I've had great luck they are happy and so am I we compromised in the middle of the road food and everything is great including my wallet!
