Hello hello! Happy Tuesday!

What are your least favorite smells?

For myself.....

Aside from some of the usual obvious ones (Bodily functions, BO, decaying things, garbage)

Cigarettes. Especially after the deed was done, the person smells so bad afterward :barfgreen: really rank. No matter how much of an attempt to cover it up.
Burning Plastic
Spray paint or that clear spray stuff - gives me a headache.

Anything that makes me wheeze. I am scent sensitive asthmatic so there are a lot of smells that physically give me problems. This time of year I hate the pumpkin and pine cone scents everything and everywhere. I have no problem with the naturally occurring versions of either of them but the artificial versions make doing any sort of shopping nearly impossible. There is a good reason all my Christmas shopping is online.

I can't say there are any smells that don't trigger a response that I particularly dislike other than the obvious like garbage or sewage.

Geraniums, cloves, the heavy smell of pine from a cleaning product or candle, any cologne or perfume if it is over used and coffee after it's been sitting on the heating element too long.

I'm with you on all your three cassiopea cassiopea :agree:

Also:-
Burning hooves (when the farrier is hot-shoeing horses).
The antibacterial spray dad uses for cleaning - it goes right to my throat. Just nasty.
Bleach.
Cat food (I feed Asha in my bedroom, and the smell's really been bothering me. Her Ladyship won't eat anywhere else though ).

Raw pumpkin and most meat when it's being cooked (especially ground beef).

Cigarette smoke is the absolute worst followed by cheap perfume/cologne. I'm also one of the anti-cilantro people, there's something about the smell and/or taste of cilantro that I detest.

Cigarettes are number 1.
As much as I love perfume, there are certain ones which make me gag and cause headaches (Angel is one of them).
Bananas sometimes. When they are over ripe.

I'm an ex-smoker and I would have to say cigarette smokers smell the worst. I can't believe I stunk that bad for 35 years.

I also can't stand the smell of a dead skunk in the road, leather and cheap perfume.

Cigarette and cigar smoke.
The odor of lighter fluid when it's being used on a grill.... horrible.
The doggy odor in a house that's not kept clean.
Burnt popcorn

Well, as a 2-pack a day smoker for about 20 years, I have to say that I still love the smell of a cigarette burning. I will sidle up to smokers, just to get a whiff. I do that every once in a while outside at work and the guys laugh at me. When a new hire went outside for a smoke break, I walked up, introduced myself and we started talking. One of the guys told him, "She doesn't care about you; she just wants to breathe in the smoke from your cigarette!" And yeah, pretty much. I still love the smell. Actually, I loved everything about smoking, from unwrapping the pack, getting a cigarette out, tamping it down lighting it up.....and ooooh, that first drag of the day. I did, I loved smoking. Kept my weight down, too. It's been 20+ years since I quit; I think about it every single day. And I'd start back up in a heartbeat if I didn't have hungry, furry mouths to feed!

That doesn't mean that I like the smell on clothing or on somebody's breath. I have trouble getting into a smoker's car because of the smell....it's not pretty.

Skunk. Whew!

There's an older woman who works here who showers in this god-awful "old lady" perfume. It ranks. I'm sorry, but it just ranks. Awful stuff. It doesn't make me gag, but it comes close. When you walk into an area and think, "Oh, **** must have been here!" well, that's just nasty stuff.

You have me beat. I only smoked 1 pack a day. I like the smell of cigarette smoke I just can't stand the smell of it on a smokers clothes or their breath. If I walk by someone smoking I will slow down to get a few whiffs. I quit 4 years ago and I still crave them. I would kill for one right now.

When I did smoke I always smoked outside so my cats and my poodle would not get the second hand smoke. When I was a kid we had neighbors who were chain smokers. They had two poodles that died from lung cancer and I'm sure they got cancer from my neighbors chain smoking.

Boy have I gained weigh since I quite. I would start again except for the cost and the fact that I have COPD. Also because the last pack of cigarettes cost me $8.00 (Merits) here in Maryland.

Definitely cigarettes, but most cigar smoke doesn't bother me. Well, it bothers my asthma, but the smell doesn't offend me. I definitely agree with the lighter fluid. There has been a smell coming from the farm behind em this year which is super offensive. It's not a normal farm smell. Vomit. I can't smell human vomit or I want to vomit.

Heavy-handed perfume application, especially the strong stuff. I used to pass on the elevator when I saw a lady go in because she bathed on Red and stank up the air for long minutes. It lingered in the elevator, and I darned sure wouldn't get into one with her. She was a nice lady but didn't realize the nose quits smelling something after a while, so she would put on more and more. I was glad I didn't work with her.

Second on the list is stale cigarette smoke. My mom was a heavy smoker, and at Christmas, we'd take the gift she gave us home and they would leave the car reeking for days. We had to air the gifts out or toss them, they smelled so bad.

Cooking liver. Pure air pollution! It ought to be outlawed.

A lot of air fresheners businesses put in restrooms. They reek worse than the natural smells.

Burning hair.

A bag of shrimp forgotten in the car in the summer.

Quite some time ago, a woman gave me a bunch of her books. Don't get me wrong; I was very grateful. But she was a very heavy smoker and the smell had gotten into her books. I couldn't keep them. I tried everything: putting them outside on the deck, putting them in a trash bag with baking soda, with charcoal. I threw them away.

When I was at The Book Barn in CT on a book-buying spree, I found copies of Rose Bevy Baranbaum's The Bread Bible and The Pie and Pastry Bible. At $5 each, they were a steal. Until I opened them and the stench of old perfume smacked me in the face. I looked at my GF and at the same time, we both said, "Oh, what the heck!" and I stuck them in my bag. It took me months, and I do mean months!, to get that old perfume smell out of those books. Again, I tried everything I could think of and managed to get the smell down to a dull roar. Finally, about a year or so later, when my co-worker bought his house (that reeked of "old people smell" and yes, there really is such a thing), he bought this air purifier ion-thingie machine and hooked it up in the empty house for a full 24 hours. I gave him my cookbooks and he opened them and put them on the living room floor.

Problem solved! While they certainly don't smell like new books, the stench is gone and the books are in my bookcase. they're good cookbooks, too.

ETA: And speaking of perfumes and such (don't you just love how my mind wanders around?), many years ago, I wore a musky-type cologne. It got to where people knew me by that scent (and I don't know if that was a good or a bad thing). Anyway, one of the guys from the paper plant where I worked for many years told me back then that he was in the drugstore, squatting down, looking at something on a lower shelf. Suddenly, he smelled "my" scent and he thought, "Oh! Pam must be around!" and stood up to look for me. Except it wasn't me.

The same thing happened to me. My cousin gave me a floor model t.v. when she updated to a newer model. As much as liked it I couldn't stand to have it in my house. Her husband smoked and the smell had seeped into the beautiful wood cabinet. What a shame.

Ugh... cigarette smoke:cringe::barfgreen: I cannot stand that or pot or cigars. My Dad is a huge smoker, at least a carton a day. Not a pack. A whole carton. Seriously :cringe: And it's not even real cigarettes either. He buys cartons from some sketchy guy downtown who sells the non-descript packages out of a duffle bag for cash only. The smell is 100 times worse than a normal cigarette:barfgreen::barfgreen: Who knows what is actually in those fake cigarettes? Mom makes him smoke outside now but he reeks horribly after every smoke :barfgreen::barfgreen: And that's on top of the BO from poor personal hygiene.

Cigarette and cigar smoke. And marijuana, which I hope doesn't become a more common smell after it becomes legalized next year here in Canada.

I also hate the smell of wood burning. I hate having to close my windows on a nice summer night because a neighbour is using their fire pit.

Other smells I don't like are moth balls, meat cooking, musty leaves, and some of the over-powering air fresheners.

Cigarette smoke is at the top of my list. Next is too much alcohol on a person's breath. I also detest the smell of heavy perfumes. It makes me sneeze.

The last item is one of my also but, I didn't want to gross anyone out too much by writing it.
Better you than me LOL.
But yea, it's a problem. Good thing I have no kids (for some reason, the cats doing it doesn't quite have the same effect)
