Hello everyone!
I have an interesting case this time. I wasn't so sure about fostering again since poor Dewey, but I think I've found a cat that could really use my help.
Her name is Penny. She is 1 year old and has already had a litter. I'm extremely pro-spay/neuter, and only a few weeks ago did her kittens find homes. She is already pregnant again, and it's already quite noticeable as she is a very small cat! (One of the smallest I've seen actually!) She's incredibly sweet, and she does have an owner who treats her more like a puppy than a cat. Because of that, she has great temperament. I picked her up today for some cuddles and she liked my nose! She is more than precious. Anyway, her owner asked if I wanted to take her home. I said yes, of course, but she isn't with me yet.
When I do get her, I want to return her to her owner, but there's a catch. I don't want her getting pregnant again as it's hard enough to find homes for kittens in the rural area I live in. Last litter, she had a whopping 6 kittens. I want to spay her and then return her after the kittens have weaned and she has healed. Her owner has three little children who don't really know how to handle animals properly, and their mother doesn't care how they do it. She has gotten them rabbits and will let them take them onto their trampoline and jump with them on it! Im sure she wouldn't let them if she had researched more on rabbits and how sensitive they are to scary situations like that. But I feel out of place to try and tell her she's doing it all wrong. Even if I just gently urged her to research bunnies, she might get offended, I believe.
Anyway, back to Miss Penny. I'm worried she won't want me to spay her, and that she actually wants her to have more kittens. I don't think she realizes how huge the cat population is, either. I'm a bit nervous in real life, and I am for sure going to ask her before I spay her cat, of course, but I wanted to ask the TCS community for any tips or advice they can give me about this, what to say, what extra I can do for tiny Penny while I have her, and possibly how I could encourage her to teach her kids how to properly handle their bunnies. (And maybe how to clean a cage? lol) All preferably in the least offensive way I could possibly put it. I was thinking of asking her to "come to work with me" one of these upcoming days so she can see how tightly packed our shelter already is with cats and kittens so I can enlighten her. I feel it would be a good idea to educate the people in the surrounding areas how important it is to fix your cats. Unfortunately, more than most could care less, and just don't seem to understand the gravity of the matter. Any ideas for spreading awareness? Any and all help is appreciated! Thank you!

that's tiny Penny with her best friend Pookie. My best estimation is that she'll have 4 kittens, maybe less. Can't wait to take her home! I miss having kittens!
