good morning! :hellocomputer:

lately i've been up about as much at night as during the daytime hours. i enjoy the quiet and coolness of summer nights, and my cats love the fresh air at night that we don't have available during the days.

so for today's Question of the Day......

Would you say that you're more of a daytime person or a nighttime person? Or, do you fall somewhere in between the two?

i'll start!

i definitely fall somewhere in between the two. i love mornings, the start of a new day. :sunshine: and i also really enjoy the night time hours, so peaceful and quiet.

having worked graveyard shift for many years (years ago), i got used to staying up nights and making sure that i got enough sleep at various points of the day.

so now i prefer some of each -- a little of the mornings, some day time hours, and some night time hours. :)

how about you?

Daytime. Even when I didn't have cats. I guess it's from decades of having to wake up early to commute into NYC.
By 9:00 pm I'm pretty much brain dead. It's very rare that I'm up later than 11 pm, even on weekends or vacations.

I'm a night person. I can't sleep so I'm usually up most of the night. It is so quit and peaceful.

My natural sleep hours are odd, go to bed very early evening like 7 to 7:30 p.m and get up at 2:30 to 3:00 a.m. I was able to get close to that with hours that I worked until I was 49. My job was going away and I got a job with a 12 hour night shift, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. I was very concerned by those hours but at 49 I couldn't be picky about another job . I stuck with it for 6 years before I just couldn't do it anymore. Even though I left that job 6 years ago I am still having issues with sleeping well.

Definitely daytime. Actually daylight. Once the sun sets, I start getting lazy.
So I hate winter. But LOVE these long June days. :sunshine:

I have always been night-time "programmed". When I was in high school I would stay up late, 2 am and my mom would remind me to get to bed. In college and young adulthood, if I did not have to be anywhere the next day, I would have to force myself to go to bed around 3 am, even later, not out on the town, but just reading or watching tv.

Now, my shifts during the week are 9-5 or 9-5, then second job 6-10 or later. I come home around 11 and really need two or three hours to unwind, then I am up next day at 7 am. I amaze myself how little sleep I need sometimes and run around on my feet all day. I know this is not good for my health. It is kind of who I am, though.:dunno:

I'm definitely a morning person, but I'm also a night person, so it's hard to reconcile the two. I get the best work, thinking, whatever, done in the morning, but I stay up too late reading. It's hard to force myself to bed so I get enough sleep to be bright-eyed in the morning. The cats are very tolerant of me in the morning if I sleep late, but Mingo grumbles and complains if I stay up too late. If I wait too long to go to bed, he won't come and sleep with me.

I'm totally nocturnal. We worked nights for 17 years and I loved it, as did my husband. When we switched to days it was miserable. When we got a long weekend we'd be switched back to nights before it was over. If I can, I usually get up around 2 p.m. and stay up until about 6 a.m., sometimes with a nap in the middle, one of the perks of being retired.

It's hard to get people to understand that you sleep days. None of my doctors can fathom it. It seems a perfectly clear concept to me. Breakfast, if eaten at all, is about 6 or 7 p.m. with supper around 2 a.m. If I'm in the hospital, I have to keep reminding the nurses that I'm a day sleeper and wide awake nights so they don't chart it as something to be medicated.

If I have to be somewhere during my normal sleep time, I often just drink a Dr. Pepper and stay up. It's easier. I hate alarm clocks!

Definitely a night person. I think being born and raised in the desert it must be part of the genetics. Sleep during the day and wait until night when it's safe to move around. Although I do see the necessity for the sun and sunlight, the sun almost seems evil at times.

I am a night person. My normal "rhythm" has been to bed at 2 am; up at 10/10:30. And I have loved naps!

But a few months ago my doctor put me on iron supplements. I noticed pretty quickly that it gave me lots of energy during the day and I don't look for a nap nearly as often. And definitely not so strongly! With all that; I've been absolutely crashing around midnight and waking up at 8:30 or so. Waking up hasn't been as difficult either.

It only goes wonky if I crash before doing something important; like scooping the litter boxes or brushing my teeth. Then I get too awake and it takes a while to go back to sleep again. Thankfully my kids have always been on an odd schedule because of DH's work. Some of my friend's kids get up before 6!! That is pure evil, torture to someone like me.

I also feel like I'm most physically productive during the day. But most creatively productive at night. It's also my favorite time to read and recharge.

your natural sleep hours sound very good!!!

oh my! a twelve hour shift sounds rough -- during the day or during the night! unusual, or unnatural for us, sleep hours can really negatively effect people for the long term. i know that for me, after having worked graveyard shift for many years, the time(s) of day/night i sleep as well as how deeply/well i sleep have been permanently effected. :agree:

I used to be such a night owl! I always loved working third shift and while everybody on my crew was all bleary-eyed, I'd be bouncing all over the place. I loved the night. I loved sitting out on the deck at 2:00 in the morning, smoking a cigarette and listening to the sounds of the night in the yard. I enjoyed looking up and seeing the constellations.

Sadly the cats have changed that. They awaken at 3:00 and start screaming for breakfast. So when they awaken, I awaken. And now, it's nothing for me to be in bed and sound asleep by 8:00 on most nights. Even on weekends. It's sad and I miss my night times.

well my mom used to have weird hours=and I am just like her. I like the middle of the night-quiet and DARK. The sun hurts my eyes and burns my skin. I like cloudy days better.

I work 1st shift but when I was locked out for 2 weeks I didn't get up before 7am. Then I couldn't fall asleep before 12am. I prefer nights. I like it quiet. I love the quiet of the morning too So I like a bit of both...

I'm anything but a night owl. Usually I'm awake somewhere between 5 and 5:30 a.m., so ready for bed by 9:30. Generally I read 30 - 60 minutes before falling asleep.

a daytime person!!! very nice!

i'm not a fan of winter either. the days are too darn short! so on my 'busy days' i'm rushing to get outdoors things done (like moving firewood and shoveling snow, before it starts getting dark), and then i'm finishing with the indoors tasks after it gets dark. :sigh: i love the long summer days too! :)

my Mickey :rbheart: used to 'herd' me to bed if i was staying up too late. our Dude does that too sometimes.

totally nocturnal!!! :cloud9: and a very nice sleep plan you have there! :agree:

especially during the hot weather months, or in hot climates, it seems to just make sense to me to limit the daytime hours i'm awake -- it's not like i'm missing something wonderful during the hottest part of the day. and during the cold winter months here, i'd really rather huddle by the wood burning stove at night instead of feeling frozen in bed under a mass of blankets with the heated mattress pad cranked up. :dunno:
