He will be FAR better in a/c this summer than without it. Cats do a pretty good job of keeping themselves warm. Anything over mid60s will be fine for him. It's the heat that gets them...all that fur AND an undercoat.

:yeah:

Also, depending on where you live, exposure to heat and humidity can make your cat more susceptible to fungal infections. Been there, done that, have a few t-shirts.

I agree ~~ AC is much better to deal with than the strait heat and humidity. You can always offer a 'tent' or someplace warm for your kitten to curl up in.

I would just make sure the AC is not blowing on the kitten, and not too cold.

Where do you think?
I find if I don't have the a.c. on my guys are just as affected by the humidity and heat as me. My cats become groggy and won't eat if it's off.

I run my air conditioning, in fact I already have it on. I keep it at 76F which I think is 24C, but that is to try to keep some control on my electric bill. The kitties would be fine if it was a few degrees lower but my pocketbook wouldn't be fine.

Colds are viruses, so no one, human or feline, gets colds from cool temperatures or a/c. MaXx will probably enjoy being comfortable in the hot weather!

Mine do great in the AC. They had better. We live in south Florida.

My AC went out in August 2 years ago. It was out for just under 24 hours. I had DD open the windows and put box fans in some of them to try to get some air circulating for them. I got home and it was 93 degrees in the house. They were PANTING. I have a window AC unit so I put that up and turned it on. I put a chair in front of it and within seconds, Sophie was on that chair flat on her back with her feet sticking up in front of it. They were not pleased that it was so hot in the house. Lily just hollered at me. I guess I was being told to FIX IT NOW. :angrywoman:

As soon as DD set the fans up, she jumped ship and went to a friend's house. :rolleyes2:

I live in Orlando, Florida, and I will go without food before I'll go without ac. I just absolutely cannot tolerate the heat. Plus, the humidity is so horrible in Central Florida that it makes it worse. Walking outside in July and August is almost akin to snorkeling. The air is like soup and feels completely oppressive. Given my proclivity for the cold, I actually worry about my cats getting too cold. There are times when my thermostat can creep down to 70 degrees or even lower, but neither of my cats seem to mind. In fact, Thirteen will sprawl out on my Mexican Tile floor in the kitchen. If she were cold I wouldn't think she'd be doing that.

Our former vet who retired told us, "if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them." I never forgot what she said.
Good point. Haven't had to break out the A/C yet, though I generally keep one room dark (blinds pulled, fan on) and the main room with the windows open. That way Bridget can sleep/have closet time in the darker room if she gets too hot in the main room. And, of course, plenty of water in the dish. :)

My A.C. and heat are both out of order right now. I have a mini split so if one breaks so does the other.

Felt so bad for my guys yesterday when it was hot and humid.

We're in la-la land, where the humidity isn't (usually) so bad as it is in FL, but I've lived in the Caribbean where it's like that all the time, pretty much, without AC. When I came here, I had the heat on all the time because that was what I was used to!!! I don't really like hot weather, though, and much prefer it cool and cloudy and rainy. I can't afford AC, so in the summer when it does get hot -- sometimes over 100F -- I leave the shower door open and sometimes cats will go in there and lie down. Here's a pic of our beloved Sammi and Sahra angels cooling off.

Aw, love the pic of your kitties!

It's hot and extremely humid where we live, and even with the AC and dehumidifier running, it can still feel pretty steamy inside. Plus, most of the house is carpeted, which can't be very comfortable for them. So we bought a bunch of large tiles (about 12" x 18") from Lowe's and put them under tables and whatnot to give them some cool places to lie down. We also put little water bowls on or near those tiles. That way it's kinda sorta like letting them lie down in the bathroom, but with the convenience of them being able to stalk us around the house.

Something I've seen recommended, and sometimes do when it's VERY hot, is wet a washrag in cool water and wipe down my cats. They do seem to appreciate it, especially if I have a fan running -- it helps them cool off. We have 5 rooms carpeted and 5 not, so they get a choice there, but the shower seems to be popular, as are the sinks and sometimes tubs.

Thanks. Yeah, I miss those angels.

My cat is 17 years old and he is like an elderly person. My husband likes it really cold in the house so my baby retreats out to the garage so he won't be too cold.
