Excellent update!
Who knows, it could very well have been an upset tummy, also I think perhaps her maternal instincts may be surfacing too.
Even a day can mean the difference.

Anytime there is a drastic immediate change in diet it will cause gas and stinky poops, meaning her system struggled some to digest the new food and not used to it.

Happy mama cat dance!
Awesome/ideal gains too!

:woo::banana2::banana1: :dance: :dazzler: :woohoo: :jive:

She's really a sweet girl and I gave her loads of praise today when she was being a good mammy so hopefully it has clicked with her what her new way of life is all about!

She would have been on the food a few weeks before having the babies and seemed fine on it but you know how it is even with humans, your digestive system takes a hammering after childbirth and things don't always work right / the same as before.

She has the makings of a good mama so fingers crossed we are over the worst!

She looks so darn content in the pic, smiling with her arm around the kids :)
You're right about the gassiness from delivering too, I wasn't sure how long she had been on her current food, always my first thought with gas and smelly poo.
What relief you must feel today!

Hi
Sorry been a busy day. Silky was a bit crazy again last night. She wanted to play/hunt and tried to get her babies to play too. I distracted her with a ball track, which she enjoyed. Her eyes were really dilated and she kept jumping on anything that moved, including my hands!

I ended up staying up late with her to make sure she was calm enough when going back to the kittens.

Pippin's weight gain was not good this morning (only 2g up) so I'll be giving her a top up if things don't pick up later.

Silky was definitely constipated as she kept dropping little bits of poop without realising. I tried reducing her dry food and increasing the wet, but she threw up the wet food.

I didn't give her any more pain med this morning as it's an NSAID which could be irritating her stomach.

Today she's been calm and feeding well.

I bought her a new litter tray. She kept missing the one she had so I got a covered one. Here's to less carpet scrubbing!!

I noticed one baby has started to open his eyes. I think it was Maverick. I must try get a few photos.

A spoonful of plain, canned pumpkin mixed into her wet food may help with the constipation. The meds probably dried her out.

Pippin should definitely get topped off today!

We have 4 opening eyes. Pippin, Maverick, Bruce and Oreo.

The constipation seems to have resolved as she did a normal poop in her tray today.

Elsa's family.... mastering the "we will not sleep in the lovely bed you gave us!" trick. Essential learning for every cat. Lol Elsa relaxing in the shower!

I realised today that Silky has now peed, pooped, puked and birthed on my bedroom carpet. It's just as well I love her!

I am also grateful for stain remover spray. Lol.

I had bought my 3 foster kittens a lovely cat cave. They demolished it by sleeping on top of it rather than going inside it.

Gorgeous kittens! My Kandy also likes to sleep on the shower shelf.

You might want to invest in a plastic tarp! ;)
Sure you know how it is, if there was a tarp, cat would do its business just beside the edge of it. On the carpet side.

I'm not too concerned as the carpet is old and is being replaced when I can clear my room a bit. Might look at a laminate floor or vinyl even instead of carpet though. Lol

Just back home from a night away to find Silky hasn't been looking after herself or her babies properly in my absence.
They are all (incl Silky!) covered in kitten poop. Their nest is filthy and the poor babies have yellow all up their bellies and even on their heads/faces. Silky's legs, belly, under her chin and even on her side had poop on them.

I haven't weighed them yet to see if she fed them!
I've washed 3 with warm water and a cloth and put them in a clean bed and Silky is now feeding the other 3 and has started to clean one. Nope, she's finished "cleaning" and didn't do any toileting.

I wonder was she stressed about me not being there? :frown: She's definitely a very needy mom. Is she giving up?
Babies on the blue blanket have had their wash. Poop is very hard to wash off!!

Wow that is very strange! I wonder why she is like that. Poor girl! I hope they are alright. Make sure to get all the yellow off as you don't want urine scalding. And make sure to dry them really well after bathing as they're so young they will get quite cold.

Oh my word! This is alarming. Yes, my first thought was that she became stressed without you there. Bless her heart.

You can put the babies under warm running water if need be. They absolutely must be cleaned.

I'm also wondering if someone is having diarrhea.

Hopefully they've been fed. :(

I put them in the carrier as I cleaned them one by one and Silky decided to get in with them. She's feeding them in there, even though they're all squished in!

I managed to weigh 3 so far - Pippin has gone up 8g, Bruce went up 14g and Ranger 33g so at least they were fed!
Their bed is nice and clean now so I'll move them back when the feed is finished.
