My cat missy has been on Orijen regional red dry food for over a year. I have tried to switch her off of dry completely without any success. I've tried dehydrated raw, raw, homemade,so many canned food brands I can't even list them all, she will touch none of it, but I digress...
Orijin has changed their manufacturing from Canada to the USA. The new food smells awful, bigger pieces ect. My cat loves her orijen but is not remotely interested in the new kind. She has chicken allergies and pododermatitis (pillow foot) I'm so upset because the regional red was not only the only food she would eat but it was the only one that didn't make her Condition flare up. Does anyone have recommendations of a dry food preferably lower in fat? I have heard of ziwipeak but I'm not that familiar with them, is it considered a good brand? Thank you in advance if anyone replies

ZiwiPeak is air dried raw food. A 14 oz bag, the only size avaiable, is awfully expensive at around $16.

Maybe a liimited ingredient dry food would help since your cat is allergic to chicken. Nature's Variety Instinct LID is one you could try. I have no idea what the exact fat content of the food is. The website only lists the minimum crude fat. Actual fat content may be higher.

Thank you for replying. I actually tried instinct before, the limited ingredient rabbit, she hated it. She is the pickiest most stubborn 6 lb cat I've ever met. I was reading about zignature, it seems to be a good brand from what I've read. Since she's the only one of my cats that eat dry, I don't mind spending a little extra on a good quality food. There's just.So much to choose from it's overwhelming!

Young again makes a very high quality food and if you email them, they will send a couple of samples.   It is pretty pricey (though really more so than Orijin regionals as I recall) , and only sold directly from them, but you could give it a go.   it does include chicken in it ( though not as first ingredient).

My kitty Psycho is also a Regional Red boy. I was afraid of the new formula and did try Young Again but no matter what I did he would not eat the YA. I tried 2 of their formulas but over a course of 2 weeks he lost 4/10 of a lb and I caved and bought the new U SA RR. He loved it and is thriving on it. He does get wet 2x a day but without kibble he has a hard time keeping weight on.
I think at the end of the day Orijen is still the best kibble out there IMO.

I also was feeding Orijen to my guys and finished up the last Canadian bag within the last month.  I concluded in my research that Go Petcurean and Fromm Four Star where probably two of the best if not the best available.  I am in the process of switching over and ultimately will go with a 3/4 Go Petcurean to 1/4 Fromm Four Star mixture.

In regards to you finicky cat have you tried Tiki Cat Puka Puka Luau Succulent Chicken in Chicken Consomme Grain-Free Canned Cat Food?  I have success with this food and its one of the best in the marketplace.  Expensive yes but since you were feeding Orijen I can assume money is not an object.

Where do you think?
I have no explanation with the Tiki food they don't have it at my local pet valu but based on what I've read on here it's probably better to stay away from the fish flavours if possible. Unfortunately this is not possible for me Indy is super picky and if food is fish free I have to put salmon juice on it or she won't touch it.

She really enjoyed a half bag of the six fish that a friend left here.

Zignature would probably be great in the future, but they only have a dog food line right now. Their sister company is Fussie cat, but their dry foods all have chicken.

My suggestion would be maybe Wellness CORE turkey and duck. It's not orijen, but the ingredient list is pretty good. Natural Balance LIDs are good for allergies but they tend to be more carb-heavy so that would a little further away from Orijen.

I was feeding our guy Acana Wild Prairie & Kitten until Champion switched to the US facility, I refuse to give it to him.  Canned food was a no go for him so I started supplementing with freeze dried raw and he loves it.  But it's so expensive that I can't feed it exclusively.  I've tried samples of every other type of dry I could get my hands on but he prefers the original Acana.  He wouldn't touch the Go Petcurean.  Although not thrilled he will eat some of the Fromm Hasen Duckenpfeffer so that's what I am switching to in addition to the freeze dried raw.  I feel everyone's pain!

Psycho only has 4 teeth so Tiki is not a pate and that is all he eats in wet. He has no trouble with the kibble.though.
Why is everyone so down on the USA
Orijen ?

I'm not exactly sure but maybe the ingredients are not the same quality? I really can't say. They only sell tell Canadian stuff at pet valu but I do live in Canada so I guess that's why.

I know Indy goes nuts for orijin though. She loves the six fish also likes the tundra but she only gets orijin when the performatrin ultra turkey duck salmon is out of stock. It's less money but smells like orijin

Tiki Cat Puka Puka Luau Succulent Chicken in Chicken Consomme Grain-Free Canned Cat Food is 100% chicken.

Nothing wrong with Acana and matter a fact that would also be an very good option for the OP.  Acana's change in recipe was no where near as drastic as Orijens complete overall.  I actually contacted Orijen to inquire and they did everything in their power to justify the changes including trying to talk me into believing that deboned meat is a better protein option than meals of the same meat but I degress.   For the OP Looking at the Appalachian Recipe the first six ingredients are all meat proteins and while the first three are deboned meats its still chaulk full of meaty protein plus offers all 11 essential ammino acids..  Definitely a good option and depending on how my guys take to the Petcurean and Fromm will keep Acana in mind.

Looking at the ingredient list the Regional Red has better ingredients than the Cat&Kitten formula. Someone else also sited this.
Acana is also a good option as well. For now he s thriving on the RR so I m going to stick with it for a while.

I haven't tried the tiki cat yet but it's on my list. She does like fromm, the Hasen Duckenpfeffer.I've tried transitioning to canned with no luck. I've tried dehydrated, raw, homemade, canned, everything. She's a dry food addict So I've caved for now. I don't mind spending a little extra since she's the only one who will eat it.
Heres the addict
