Good morning!
 And Happy Friday!

What's your favorite holiday? Why?

I love the Christmas season. I love to bake, I love to decorate the house, I love to do the shopping for Rick, the kids, and for the grands. I love to cook for Christmas dinner and I love to figure out what to do with all the leftovers. I love sitting in the living room at night with just the tree lights on and watching the lights glisten. I love the weeks leading up to Christmas; Thanksgiving dinner and everything for the feast.

I just love that time of the year.

Halloween I guess but that doesn't mean much any more. It's just DD and me for Thanksgiving and Christmas so they really aren't that much different than any other days.

None really.

I'm a curmudgeon.

I don't dislike, it's just none get me over joyed when they arrive.

I feel the same way. I did the big meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas for years for just the three of us. DH and I put up the Christmas tree every year. Now I can't be bothered. Way too much work for little reward. No thank you. Sophie would have a bout of the zoomies and go through a Christmas tree like furry little tsunami. I'd come home and find pieces of it everywhere.

Pam,

I do the same thing with Christmas as you do, down to sitting in the dark, gazing at the lights! However, I think Halloween is my favorite holiday.  I love Fall; I really embrace it. I think it's due to my Father, who loved it. He hated Christmas, and did his best to ruin it for us. He even left my Mom for two weeks one Christmas when I was a kid. I want to love Christmas, but it makes me nervous, even at my age. And Dad died in 1999. Halloween is more casual, and no gifts or family dinners are involved.  In other words, very little opportunity for family fights.

I hear you.

Since both my parents passed, many holidays just never felt the same. We were always at their home, for everything.  Me and my siblings don't live near enough to each other, so it's always a big hassle trying to coordinate our lives to see each other.  Tom's parents both passed this year, so that put a damper on things from his end too.

We don't celebrate major holidays personally anyway as we're both not religious and both too busy/lazy to decorate for the ones we sort of like.

If my house were a bit larger and able to accommodate a group, I'd think about making a bigger fuss but it isn't - I can't fit more than 6 people comfortably!  Next house I'll make sure there's more seating options LOL.

I am not really into any of the holidays anymore.  I do enjoy Christmas day itself because of small grandchildren but that is about it.  I think it just goes on too long now.  I liked it much better when Christmas didn't come out until the day after Thanksgiving.  I have already been seeing KMart Christmas ads on TV for awhile now.  It has over ran Thanksgiving for awhile now, now it is trying to take over Halloween.

I think Christmas is way more fun with small children. My DD is 21. She's over it. Want to know what we did last Christmas?

Slept late

Went to 7-11 and got nachos- the Christmas brunch of champions!

Did our normal day to day activities

Had crab cakes and Caesar salad for dinner

Sound exciting?

DD got most of her gifts before Christmas because she is the queen of instant gratification. The furkids got their gifts so they were happy.

I also hate how early they bring Christmas stuff out. We started seeing it here with the Halloween stuff. There's a radio station here that starts the 24/7 Christmas carols the day after Halloween. WHY? There is NO need for that kind of overkill.

I do like Christmas time. I'm by myself and it does get lonely during the holidays. Especially when the whole family goes to my sister's house who lives right behind me and I don't get invited. My brother or brother in law pick a fight with me to keep me away. I give $100.00 gift certificates to my 7 grand nephews and nieces but they never even thank me. I don't get or give to the rest of the family.   I do enjoy Christmas music and the TV shows about Christmas and the stores being decorated.

Bah HUMBUG.

I don't do holidays. My day=wake up-feed the furkids-snuggles-outdoor supervised time if it's not raining or cold, then read a book-snuggle time..lunchtime...facebook time...then maybe drive somewhere if I am dressed. If not then we just eat junk food..then dinner is whatever we find in the house or order Chinese food...cuddle times with Honeybee. then bed...oh so much fun!!! I work so many days that I prefer my days off alone.. so bah humbug!

I think I will cook a turkey this year..so stuffing/bird/ and bread for a week after..Floey is gone so no more cat in our face trying to steal the butter off our bread. or the turkey.

Definitely Christmas.  I love the prepping and planning, decorating, enjoying the lights, the traditions, baking and family time.  Most of all; I love my kids reactions.  It can get overwhelming if I'm not careful. But it's such a fun time. Especially with young kids around.

Can't justify the radio station, but so many of us are on such tight budgets that it takes us two months of buying a tiny bit here and a tiny bit there to be able to do Christmas.

For me, Hallowe'en, and all things fall, really.  I love the colors and the smells and the cool days and nippy nights.  I had my first hot chocolate of the season when I shut my light off and blew out the pumpkin at midnight of Hallowe'en.  SIGH...But I love all of the fall/winter holidays, and I have more of them than most!  I just love the dark half of the year...long nights, short days, shivery silvery weather...I love it all.

I love el Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).  I fell in love with the holiday after going to Oaxaca, Mexico, to experience it, about ten years ago.  We celebrate it every year at our house.  Sometime we do a big party, sometimes just a small dinner party with close friends, but to have a day to reflect on our loved ones who have passed, and celebrate life is a wonderful tradition.

It's celebrated Nov. 1 & 2, so we're doing it late this year, it will be tomorrow night.  We decorate with marigolds and candles and build an altar where our friends can place photos of deceased loved ones to remember and honor, we'll have lots of good Mexican food, and toast our families and friends, living and dead.

Halloween and Christmas!

I enjoy the smells, the themey foods and drinks, the colours, the meanings and celebrations. Just altogether nice, fun and lively events to have.

The only down side about Xmas is, as I work as a Beauty Adviser (And thus part of the retail world) is how hectic work can be on so many levels. Higher target demands, busy days, and worst of all rude and frustrating customers, more than usual! Then there was that whole "Not allowed to say the word Christmas" then people rebelled by saying Christmas then the pro-Holiday sayers are all like "Gasp! You are shoving it down our throats! We are allowed to say Happy holidays and it is ok to do so!". Hold up, don't go turning it around like that  by now claiming that you guys are the 'victims'
Plus seriously, If you don't fancy it, don't celebrate it, simple as that. Happily respect that choice, no big deal. Otherwise enjoy it for what it is, whether more deeply or not, it's all good. Why need constantly change almost absolutely everything to cater to other things and demands?

Was a needless drain for the past couple of years.

BUT anyway, it is a great season overall. I do agree it can pop out quite early though.

And I have to admit I also really like Valentine's Day. After a long and cold January it is pleasant to see colours and cheery things again, and the treats are tasty. Plus I always believed that the day is not only for couples but for everyone - love between parents and kids, between friends and your animals and so forth. Plus, the history! It is annoying when people call it a hallmark holiday. Yes, it has clearly blossomed heavily into the consumer field and there is no doubt about that, but the background itself is very old, interesting and more meaningful.

...with the cats...
i'd say it's a tie between my cats birthdays and Christmas for my cats.

i like the Christmas music, enjoy it very much, but not until after Thanksgiving. my little snick
really loved Christmas music, and took great joy in receiving her Christmas stocking each year.

our jaspurr knows and loves Christmas now too, but the girls have never experienced Christmas (we adopted them at the beginning of january). so this year will be their first, and jaspurr and i will teach them about our Christmas traditions.

Any public holiday, it means a day off work (and no pay unfortunately but sometimes one needs a break).

Actually, I'd go along with that. I used to work in a paper plant and we had three holidays off a year: July 4th, Labor Day, and Christmas. All of the other holidays, we worked unless it was a scheduled day off in our normal work rotation. It was horrible and I hated it.

I work for the county now and we have more holidays off, including what Dear Richard calls "bogus" holidays: Columbus Day, MLK Day, Presidents' Day, Veterans Day, etc. I've been at this job now for almost 17 years and I still cannot believe I have those days off work! I'm still amazed.
And I like having those days away from the office.

Pam, is that one of those jobs where the benefits after retirement are amazing?

My favorite holiday is Easter because I usually have income tax money available . The Easter baskets don't cost much and I like the reason behind the season.
