She is one year old and of course like most stories I got her at Oregon Humane Society. She was dropped off at a park when she was a kitten so vague with any breeder. She was picked up and sent to the cat foster home then to the OHS. I adopted her at 6 months and watched how she didn't behave like any cat I ever owned. She does not meow like a normal cat but very soft spoken chirps and other sounds I cannot describe but she loves to talk to you back and forth. She acts more like a dog then a cat and somewhat monkey like. She doesn't seem to know how to land on her feet but just falls like a person with one exception she shows off and will do it again. She loves to play non-stop and if you don't play with her she will do naughty things like knock down towels or roll the toilet paper and climb really high on whatever is the highest piece of furniture you have. She attaches herself to one person and doesn't sit in your lap but loves your touch. I have attached a few pictures of her and she does not have one white hair on her. She also has a watery eye sometimes when the allergy season comes. What do you think Bombay mixed or DSH?

Looks like domestic short hair to me, but it's still possible he could have bombay genes. I don't know much about bombays but I'm almost positive they only have copper colored eyes. I have two black domestic shorthairs(i think they are, anyway), they look alot like yours. Your cat is adorable! I'm very partial to black cats, they're just so beautiful!

I believe the kitty you have is a domestic black short hair. The Bombay, has a shiny black coat, gold or copper eyes ,medium ears with slightly rounded tips. This information is from the CFA book that I have. Your cat is beautiful and she sounds like she has special traits.Enjoy everything special about her.

That sounds almost like my Pea-Pea! She has these big pumpkin eyes, and always had what I call tiny ears. So used to the big ears on all my other cats! She my little lovebug, whatever she may have in her genes.

You can't tell she has pumpkin eyes in most pics of her unfortunately. But here she is :heart4:

I think a couple of folks already gave their thoughts, and I agree that your kitty looks more like a black DSH than a Bombay.

Bombays have that Burmese gene in them that gives a very definitely Burmese look to the face. I don't see that in your kitty's face. She looks like a beautiful black kitty that I just want to rub noses with! I'm quite partial to black kitties and she really is gorgeous, and sounds like a great kitty in general.

Her coat is very glossy and feels tightHer nose is short and she moves and looks like a panther. Her eyes are gold all signs say Bombay my theory is so many look like the Bombay maybe this is a breed all its own since they don't act like a regular cat

I can't speak to whether or not your girl is a different breed or not. If I went by the fact all my cats didn't act like regular cats as an indicator for a particular breed, I'd have lots of cats of different breeds! So not sure that is a good indicator. Nor is how they move really. My Lucky used to stalk about like a lion over his pride (and now Oscar and Oliver are starting to do the same).

This page shows what Bombays look like. Your picture was a tad fuzzy, so maybe the depth of her face didn't come across so well. http://cfa.org/Breeds/BreedsAB/Bombay.aspx

If not a Bombay she has all the features that a Bombay would have and a Bombay is a cross between  a DSH and a Burmese so somewhere she  looks like that mixture. Besides that nobody can tell for sure since you would have to see her in person pictures cannot give the true look and characteristics that are unique to that mixed breed.

pepp1 pepp1 , you are asking for opinions, but when people give them, you say they are wrong or they can't tell for sure. If you want for someone to say it's a Bombay, that probably won't happen because the pictures you've provided do not look like a Bombay. My cats have lots of various characteristics, but that doesn't change the fact they are still mixed-breed (aka DSH).

Btw, is that kitty in your avatar the same as the one in the pic you posted above?

You can't really tell by the way a cat acts which breed they are, except maybe Siamese cause boy do they talk up a storm. My two black DSH make growly chirrup noises instead of meowing, walk on a leash every morning with my dogs(which gives me alot of sideways looks from my neighbors btw) they slink when they walk like a panther, ect. But that's Just the personality they have, doesn't make them a certain breed. Just super cute fun kitties. Bombays sure are beautiful cats though. I'm sure alot of our cats have several types of cat genes mixed in. It's certainly possible that your cat has bombay genes, the only way to know for sure is a dna test. 75$ at Petco last I checked, if your interested. Your cat sure is beautiful though regardless

Yes the picture in the Avatar is the same cat. I really don't care if people believe or even I believe she is a Bombay it is interesting to see how many people state their opinions with authority without even any validation except pictures. I have read extensively about the breed and it is a mix breed that has an official mark as being a certain breed while still mixed with a DSH. I think just like people when you mix breeds or races somewhere down the line you are going to get something that will look more like one or the other race or breed not mixed looking. I love her dearly and knew when I brought her home that she was different and still feel that even though not a pure-breed she is my little Bombay and all that means is a black panther in India. I have never been on any sites like this before and can see where people are very opinionated and feel like they know all the answers not saying you since you seem very kind but people always seem to want to be an authority on something. So with that being said this has been an interesting forum. Thanks for all your feedback.

Well, when you ask for people's opinions, they will give opinions! :) I am by no means an authority on pure bred cats. I've only had one, and she was a Siamese. I gave my opinion based on a little bit of research I did that day. And I apologize if I came off as snobbish, it's been a rough week so my tone isn't so great.

And the reason I asked about the picture in your avatar - THAT looks more Bombay-ish than the one in your post. Again, no expert, just an opinion. Going by that picture, I could see why you would think she could be Bombay. It's a much clearer picture.

Anyway, she is quite a beautiful, and I'm also partial to black cats (although I also have others).
