Medication and vitamins for cats?

My cat has cancer and i was researching some different treatment options that i wanted to try.

The issue im having is im not sure what vitamins can be given to cats. I was told COQ10, vitamin A, vitamin c and vitamin e, as well as DHA and EPA would be good. Can i give my cat vitamina for humans? Im having a hard time finding vitamins made specifically for cats and the links im finding tell me to use 250mg of vitamin c, 50mg of coq10 but they dont mention the brand to use. Most vitamins im finding are for dogs.

My issue was that i was giving him coq10 i bought then after researching saw this contained d-limonene, toxic to cats. Are the other ingredients of pills i should be wary of?

I would suggest you be wary of everything unless a vet gives yu the OK.  There are a LOT of things that are toxic to cats and a cat who is absorbing nutrients well should have all the vitamins he needs.  The one vitamin i know is safe for cats is B12 given sub q.

You can absolutely overdose a cat with vitamin A, as it's fat-soluble and stays in the body for a long period of time. You need to speak with a vet or a vet nutritionist before giving extra supplements.

Hi Rascal823 and welcome to the forum !

Forums like this are a good starting point for many people.....but, when it comes to dealing with serious health conditions, the very best sources of information and support are sure to be the specialized online communities that deal with each type of disease/chronic condition.

For the last (almost) 20 years there has been an active online community of people whose kitties have cancer.....that's where I'd be posing my questions.

People who run these groups are, by far, the 'specialists' where it involves best practices of care and management as well as the very latest treatment information - including clinical trials etc. Vitamins, "supplements" as well as appropriate/inappropriate nutrition would certainly be part of their expertise. (btw, be very careful with anything that, by its very nature, can play havoc with urine acidity/alkalinity.....like Vitamin C !)

Now, most of these groups were started in earlier internet days before forums like this came along, and they used email as their 'operating platform'. The majority, including the cancer group, continue like this today. I'd suggest that you get yourself a new separate email addy to use exclusively for the group as that will help better manage the info flow.

Thanks for the information. 

I have tried getting help from vets. I have seeked and paid for 3 consultations with vets. The first one doesnt have any knowledge on vitamins or alternative treatments, the second was just a surgeon and i was told had holistic background but once i traveled 1.5 hours, found out he had none. Then the holistic vet would not listen to any of the research I had done. She only wanted to sell me her concoction. I did purchase it for 110 dollars but after she refused to even help me with artmesinin (other people i spoke with said their holistic vet helped them with it). She doesnt believe in single herbs, compared it to ephedra somehow

Bottom line is ive spent thousands on opinions from vets and havent gotten anywhere. I have had to go to the internet for help because i do not have much help locally. Pray for us that this new vet and more money spent will actually be put to good use and he might be willing to at least help us. I know its not a good idea for me to be doing this by myself, but I just cant give up on my boy.

Most of these specialized online groups compile lists of competent Veterinarians who have proved their worth for other group members.....'there are Vets, and then, there are competent feline Veterinarians'. Ask the group about this as well.
