I use World's Best Litter for single cat, in a Nature's Miracle litter box http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/91czpagIF-L._SL1500_.jpg

Waffles manages to track litter EVERYWHERE. We have a litter mat that clearly didn't do anything, so we put up a giant cardboard slat underneath it with the edges folded up - did nothing as well. We also tried different types of rugs, didn't hold the litter either. The little corn pellets seem to just go everywhere. He's not flinging it over the side, he's tracking it with his paws. He like jumps out and a ton of litter will get splattered onto the ground and then his paws will carry them all over the house.

Does anyone else use this litter or corn based litter and have solved this problem?

Thanks!!

I've been using WBCL because it's flushable. I have the litter box set up in the bathroom and find the bath mat catches most of the litter. I shake it out once or twice a day over the box. My two cats seem to understand why I'm shaking the bath mat out and have been tracking a lot less litter. Good luck.

I started using Okocat's clumping wood pellets for my two big, long-haired cats - one of whom loves to engage in distance jumping out of the litter box and so he scatters litter everywhere.  I'm completely hooked!  Minimal dust and tracking.  I can hardly tell that my cats have used the litter box.  Is there a catch with this stuff, like some horrid additive I should be wary of?

I hope Amazon will always carry it, because they have a great price on the large boxes ($15 for 20 lbs which lasts at least 2 months).  If you buy it from local pet stores, it's pretty expensive.  You do also have to get a scoop with holes large enough to let the pellets through.

You know those rubber liners that people lay down in their kitchen cabinets? Theyre cheap and do a nice job of catching and holding the litter. If you put a rug underneath the litterbox (shag rugs are best...traps litter) and let the rug surround the box as well, and then put some of the rubber shelf liners outside of the box, itll keep most litter in its place. I just lift the mat and shake of the rug once a week. Way better and cheaper than the store bought kitty mats....and you can shape the rubber liners to fit the area.

I make a point to vacuum up the litter in front of Waffles but he doesn't seem to care. Lol.

Is it cuz of the small holes in it that catches the litter? My litter mat has a texture like a yoga mat - it's smooth and does nothing.

I have two of these mats, one where my upstairs box is and one where my downstairs box is and they work really well.  My downstairs box looks like a piece of furniture and my upstairs box is large covered box that actually has stairs leading up to it.

Personally, I found WBCL to be the absolute worst when it comes to tracking.  I use Fresh Step Multi Cat Clumping and couldn't be happier.  Yes, it does track some . . .  but I think unless you can redesign the anatomy of your cats' paws, you're just going to have some tracking, regardless of the litter.  Even so, I do believe that some litters are just more track-able than others, and yes, WBCL, I'm looking at you.

The problem with most litter mats is the size. I have two big ones in front of the litter boxes and since there is small room we put a 3 inch barrier across the door. It's stopped 99% of the beach effect .

Right now I have a Hartz kitty litter catcher in front of Robins litter box. In front of that, a white bath sheet. Next to that, an IKEA bath mat ($2.99).

I empty the Hartz and towel and IKEA mat into the toilet a few times a week, and use the dust pan to sweep what's left over about every other day.

It has drastically reduced the litter box crumbs. (I keep his box in the area between the shower and loo.)

I found a pretty cool cabinet sort of thing that's supposed to keep cats from tracking litter. Two shelves, with a hole in the side into the bottom shelf, and a hole in the bottom of the top shelf. The cat goes through both holes to get to the litter box, which is on the to shelf. After using the litter box, they have to jump back down to the bottom shelf to get out. Supposedly when they land, their toes spread out and release any litter trapped between them. It's probably put a mat on the bottom shelf. There's a door either on the front or the top so humans can get at the box to clean it.
It's a pretty cool idea, probably easy to DIY. I've been meaning to try it. :)

Yes, the small holes in the rubber shelf lining catch the kitty litter. A shag rug underneath also catches the litter. I lay the shelf lining right outside the book and on top of a small shag-type rug, with more lining laying jist outside the rug too, to catch litter as the cats walk off. I still get a little outside of this area buy not much at all.

Those store-bought mats are worthless, I know. Overpriced, too small, sometimes oddly shaped, and often smooth. I threw mine out.

I've moved my litter box to the washroom too and have a similar set up. Yesterday I was getting a bowl from the cupboard and I found A PIECE OF LITTER IN IT. He's never even BEEN INSIDE the cupboard. I swear to god he tracks litter like it's his job. Like we're going to kick him out of he doesn't put a bit of litter everywhere =.=.

Omg I went to petsmart and the mats are like $40.... So ridiculous, I could buy a giant area rug for that price. So I should lay the lining ON TOP of the rug? How do you stop it from moving/curling up?

I like WBCL because it's flushable, saves on bags and having to store pee and poo somewhere. I also don't mind that it smells like corn. But yeah... the tracking is a little ridiculous.

Yes, I lay it on top of the rug and a lay some in front of the rug too. So when kitty steps out of the box, they step onto the lining which is sitting on the rug, and then they step onto a bit of lining alone...then on the plain floor. The lining is cheap. Ive never had issues with it curling up.
Some litters track more than others, the Great Choice brand is awful as are any of the "light" litters, so keep that in mind. If you found litter in the cupboard, then your cat has litter stuck in its pads. This can be dangerous too because theyll ingest it during grooming.

If okoplus natural gold is avaliable in your country. Go for it. It only tracks a few litter out of the box although the clumping action is not that good.

I bought the liners and they worked like a charm!!!!! I'm SO IMPRESSED. It just traps all the litter the way the rugs didn't. Now I get to vacuum weekly instead of daily, and I don't see litter scattered everywhere! Thanks so much for the tip! Highly recommend this to anyone else with WBCL or corn based litter.

Soo I have an update :( The liners worked for a week, and now I'm getting litter tracked everywhere again. It seems like Waffles took the liners as a challenge and is now stepping up his game... I have 2 large plush rugs in front of the litter box, a liner on top of the litter mat, and another liner on the floor at the bathroom door. literally almost every inch of the bathroom floor is covered with some type of rug/liner/mat and he still manages to get litter everywhere into the hallway. I don't know if he's jumping over everything or just being more aggressive with his flinging or what... Help! What else can I do???

Kudos to the IKEA bath mat. If it's the one with knobbies, I have to say it actually works incredibly. It is our shower mat and I've always liked it for that reason, but when we got Boba I realized that it's collecting a lot of his litter (hes using WBCL, too). I'm considering buying one specifically for his box. For now, I wash all of the mats about once a week. Also, though its annoying bc our bathroom is so small, a plush towel works well to catch it, too. And the carpet outside the bathroom helps, i vacuum once a week. I'm not saying IKEA bath mats are a miracle for cat litter, but I'm pretty impressed.

I use textured fabric from the remnants bin at Joann's for litter mats.

The trick to keeping any mat working is to vacuum them.  When the spaces fill with litter it no longer holds the little bits.

WIth five cats, I have six boxes, two of which are enormous and high-sided and another of which is covered.  The other three are regulation size and uncovered.  I use scoopable litter "SO PHRESH" and I have cat-specific rubber mats down in front of some of the boxes; others are set on "CATPAPER" which is an excellent product.  It comes in large rolls, so I haven't ordered any for quite some time and just hope it's still being made and sold.  You custom-trim as much as you need, and when it's dirty or otherwise worn, just throw it out and cut more.  For litter tracking, I also keep small dustpan-and-brush sets by each box, and sweep up the spills as needed.  Easy, convenient, and everyone's happy!
