Has anyone ever seen this in there cat? This is bubba and he's 5years old . Two years ago I notice that when ever he sits with some pressure on his forelimbs he'd start to quiver. Only when he'd sit though. As the months flew by it slightly started getting worse. Now it's happening a lot more and it's progressed to when he stands. When he lays down on his side sometimes his front right paw will tremble while in the air.  I've had X-rays done on the front paws and elbows. They came back good and I've also had blood work done and that also came back okay. He's a bit over weight and I'm working on bringing that down. He jumps and runs around like normal cats do. I took him to a specialist who looked at him for five minutes and they recommended I go to a neurologist . His front paws are declawed but he's still got his back claws.  They recommended the neurologist because I told them that his front paws quiver so much his head shakes a very little . Please has anyone ever seen this or know at all what this could be. He's very sensitive in between the shoulder blades .  That's also only in the front paws too. Please can someone help me. I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions . Thank you to anyone who takes time out of there day to watch this. I'm just worried about my Bub's. To get a better idea of what I'm talking about please play the video. Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

I am very sorry but I do not know what this could be.  I think it probably could not hurt to go see the neurologist though.

I hope others will come by soon and weigh in.  I am sorry your little guy is having this issue. Does he seem bothered by it at all?

Hi Tulosia,

Thank you for responding. I think I'll bit the bullet and take him to the neurologist. But it doesn't seem to other him. He does like around the paw which is causing him to loss very minimal hair around the "wrist"area. I find it weird that when he lays on his left his right side the right paw will starts to tremble. So I'm thinking it might be a pinched nerve.

If you had not already has xrays done, I would think arthritis, as my Dushka trembles sometimes in her legs in bad weather when her joints ache. But as that has been done, I have no idea.

Yes, my cat Willis does this. I noticed it a few years ago after he had a dental procedure and thought it was because of anesthesia or pain meds, neither of which he does all that well with.  Not sure that was the case because I see it almost whenever he sits - I've been attributing it to the fact he's a load and I put him on a diet. I have mentioned it to the vet after anesthesia but haven't mentioned it happens all the time.

He's dealing with serious chronic nasal and sinus issues, so all the focus is on that right now. Please report back though if you find out anything.

Our little guy does this also. The vet claims it is arthritis but I'm not fully convinced because he is only 7 and his back legs seem fine. Did you find anything new out since your last post?

Unfortunately not I haven't heard anything new. The vet tried telling me the same thing but I cant believe it either . He's only five so it's hard to believe it happens at a young age. I'll try and keep everyone posted .

Have you found any answers?! Very interested as my cat is having this issue. I think it might be arthritis but she jumps just fine. I will bring her to the vet next weekend and see what he thinks then possibly f/u with a neuro.

Hi,  Just wanted to comment because my male fixed 8 yr old cat does this.  He is not overweight and besides being on a special urinary food is pretty normal.  I started to mix chondroitin capsules (opened and poured into wet food and mixed) thinking it would help to build up and strengthen his joints.  I had an English Bulldog who was on this years ago and it was recommended to build her back leg strength.  Well it seemed to help, but then I stopped after a while and now it's happening again (the trembling)....not severely but sometimes and also just the front paws not the whole body or head.  He has had it for a long time, the vet didn't know the cause at the time because the cat was young....so not sure if arthritis could happen in an older kitten, year old??  So maybe give the chondroitin a try?

I took my cat to to the vet 3 weeks ago. He did a full exam as well as blod tests and one xray to start. He has 2 xrays to compare it with from last year.  He thinks it could be two things but is not 100% sure. 1. arthritis 2. a neuro issue  We discussed each possibility.

1. arthritis. I can start with glucosamine and chondroitin. I used drops on my cat that pased away and I thought it helped her. The vet doesnt think, from the xrays that she has much arthrits and especially not in the front. MOreover my cat can jump and climb with no issues. She runs and plays and does not really ever use the steps I have to the bed that I kept from my other cat that passed away. The glucosamine and chondroitin cannot hurt so I ordered the drops last night and we shall see. That takes a long time to work though so I wont have answers on that for a long time.

2. Neuro-I can get an mri any see what condition, if any, it could be but if it is anything, I would never put my 13 yr old cat through surgery, chemo etc so there is no point of an mri at this juncture. My cat eats, poops and pees. She isnt in any pain and the trembling is not so often so for now, I am going to wait and see.

BTW the xray did show a small spot on her chest area but it showed the same spot last year. It was the same size then. It could be nothing or it could be something but it did not grow. He is repeating the xray in 2 more months to see if it grows. (Last year when he saw the spot, I misunderstood and thought he said he saw jSo, for now, its wait and see.

This happens to my kitten she was 6. Mouths old St the time it started with back legs now front paws I told my vet she said some cats have shackles she eat dinks runsca round normal. She was born to a stay mum and was in a bit of a mss when we found them. I'm thinking it could be from eating mice or rats that had been poison in that got in mum system. All so her right eye is week I started giving her vitamins and it's help a lot not with shaking just with her eye

I had a cat that upon going to sleep, his legs would shiver and contract until he was asleep.  It got to the point that when he was sitting, sometimes his front leg would shiver and then give way.  He has since passed from old age (16 years old).  Since then, I have gotten two more cats (9 months old) (1.5 years old) and now both of them have leg contractions/shivers upon going to sleep/relaxation.  The 1.5 year old is now starting to have shaking legs upon sitting.  (She has been on Revolution longer - a year and a few months) The only common factor between all three is that they were all given Revolution (topical flea liquid) to the back of their neck/head.  If you read about how Revolution kills fleas, it sends the fleas into contractions and so forth...  Advantage does something similar.  (read online how Revolution works)

My question to the other cat people with the same problem... are you giving them any type of flea liquid? if so, what?

Thanks.

Could it be related to his feet?  Declawing caused serious arthritic issues with our poor Fuzz cat, who passed earlier this year (she was 19 though).  She had a "palsy" in her front legs that was related to her arthritic paws.

You know, I have always been leary about those topical solutions to control fleas, parasites, etc. as well.  My cat loves to spend a considerable part of the day outside, so I HAVE to protect her from flea and other parasite infestation so I have no choice other than to submit to one of these 2 infestation control products.  What I have done, though, is instead of repeating the solution every 4 weeks, I let 6 weeks go by between applications, that way I feel the product is "less toxic" to her system.  If she would only be happy to be an indoor cat, I would not have to include myself with this problem.  If and I say only If Revolution or Advantage were the cause of your cats' neurological symptoms once they start displaying those type of "complications", please do stop the use of the product and have the vet run some tests.  Could be totally unrelated.  Please let us know what the outcome is, like I said, I too have my doubts of the safety of those products.

Both my cats (Allie 18 months old and Ling 9 months old) are both indoor cats but they came into my house when my 16 year old outdoor cat was still alive; hence they were started on Revolution.  They are not declawed.  The last dose of Revolution was given on August 4th; two months ago.  I am hoping with time the nervous system will repair.  I am praying it is not permanent nerve damage.  It is really hard to watch considering I gave them the Revolution solution;   As for an alternate, there is an injectable product called Program.  It lasts in the system for 6 months.  I was reading on how it is different.  The Program chemicals apparently get stored in the fat cells, rather than Revolution hanging out in the nervous system.  I will keep you posted how my two cats are doing.  (fingers crossed - hoping revolution is the problem - and hoping they will improve after discontinuing this product).  I have this site added to my Favorite's bar, so I will be back :)   Both my cats were on Royal Canin as well.  I just switched over to Kirkland (Costco brand)... so who knows what it could be.  The more info we share with our experiences the better our chances will be to figure this out.

Hi, I don't know what this is but my cat seams to be having the same problem just with his back legs when he stands.

So this is what is going on:
  • When my cat walks, he walks slowly and with his head down.
  • He is laying more than usual
  • He loves to be outside but only goes out for about 3 minutes to do his bathroom business and then comes back in right after
  • He is starring a lot, as if he zones or spaces out ( he doesn't sleep he just zones out is what it looks like )
  • He meows loudly as he usually does, so that is good
  • But he is being less active
  • He is a little bit partially deaf I think
  1. We got him when he was about 4 1/2 and now he is around 11 1/2 right now.
  2. Is this an old cat issue thing?
  3. Is my cat going to die soon, is this what all this means?
  1. Please help, please please please do. We got my cat for me for my birthday a few years ago. We saved him from getting put down. He is very special to me. I worry about him a lot. I don't know what to do.  I love my kitty so much. His name is Tisha ( Tea-sha ). It means " Peaceful One " or " Little Joy " . I love my kitty with all my heart.
He is a mix of American Short Hair and Siamese. He's a Snowshoe.

Can you take him to your vet?  I looks like he needs to be seen by the vet.
