since early summer, i saw a stray cat hanging out in my neighborhood. it would sleep in the basement of the neighbor until they fixed the window. now its getting colder and the cat is really meowing out of hunger.

i think my other neighbor gave the cat food and everytime my door opens and i come out, she starts meowing non-stop. i feed her from time to time, mostly my food scraps. i bought these small cans 3 for $1.00 and she loves it, but i can't bring in the cat as i need permission from the owner, my allergies and sinuses would go nuts, and i don't plan on staying in my current place past x-mas. Was thinking of putting the cat in the yard and act ignorant if anyone asks why is there a cat in the yard, as cats can climb and jump pretty high. but there are three dogs in the yard and would go nuts barking like crazy at the sight of this cat. already get annoyed when they see an opposum or a squirrel or anyone coming through the midsection of the backyard.

i picked up the cat a few times already, so i know she's open for coming in. i've scratched the cat and she loves it and she's filfthy, summer of being outdoors does that to you.

just now, i threw out the trash and the cat was sitting outside the porch looking at the window, i guess for me to let her in, cause its getting cold.

called animal control, they aren't even bothering. there's like a dozen stray cats in the .15 mile radius. but this one specifically stays between my place and 5 house down. makes me think, the cat belonged to someone in one of those homes. as it gets colder, the cat is probably gonna be louder in her attempts to get somewhere warm.

would like some advice.

i know animal control is a death sentence, but its better than the cat suffering starving and now cold, especially after i leave.

Wow. That sucks. Have you Googled no kill shelters in your area? Spoken with neighbors to,see if she belongs to someone?

A no kill shelter would be ideal if one's near by.

If I was hungry and cold I would not leave you alone either.
Me too :D

But seriously though, someone must be feeding her besides you. A cat will only stay somewhere so long without food.

You may have to give her a ride to a no kill shelter in the burbs. I always try to stress this issue to people who don't spay/neuter their animals. All those who are irresponsible and adding to the population, cause this problem.

A kill shelter is pretty much a death sentence. If you can find a way to feed her without upsetting your allergies, then please do. Karma will shine in your favor.

this is her now on my bed

well, since i'm cool with the owner, i get temp permission to let the cat stay with me during the cold evenings, but in the day time when i leave for my business, i leave the cat in the yard, so she can do her business, drive the pitbulls  next yards crazy, lol. she finds a way in getting out of the yard and ends up in the front of the townhouse meowing at night. she was filfthy, gave her a bath.

she lets me rub her belly, so i know she trust me. though she doesn't freak when she sees the vacuum until i turn it on, but automatically freaks when she sees the broom, meaning she use to get hit with the broom. i  went out to the yard to clean up the fallen leaves and she ran out, exciting the dogs. she stood outside and i went inside, left her out. figured let me see if she will let me pick her up and she did, she's back in laying on my bed, sleeping. probably first time she has been able to relax in a long time.

her getting the boot during the day is a matter of lack of cat litter and plus, can't trust what she'll do without me in the house.

i'm taking four types of nasal decongestants, allergy pills, and antihistamines and i'm vacuuming my room, since that's where i'm at mostly when i'm home. leaving her out during the day works, as i don't need to get a litter for her.

don't have a car, so suburban trips are out of the question.

gonna put an ad on craigslist, see if anyone wants her.

PS, landlord told mer the cat may have belonged to the neighboring town home, which he also owns. The way i see how everyone in this neighborhood leaves their dogs in the yard all day and even night, doesn't surprise me. one of the dogs doesn't have a dog house, so when it rains, half of the time the dog is "bleeped."

i'm in west philly, so if you know anyone wanting to take refuse for the cat, just hit me back.

this is her about a month ago, following me until i cross the street.

She's cute albeit a little malnourished looking. Thanks for taking her in. Hopefully you'll find a permanent home for her.

She sounds like she has a great personality, so make sure you mention that in the ad, and add pictures.

I have a kitty who cowers when I move to quickly around her. She was most likely beaten as well. I don't know how someone could do that to an innocent soul.

I agree with everything bigperm20 says.  Keep in mind, too, that there are unscrupulous people who will take cats for awful reasons, so try to be very sure of whoever wants her.

She's such a little sweetie. I think it's wonderful you are doing all you can for her, despite the health issues. Looks like you're destined to be her saviour.

Yes, especially here around Halloween. Lots of weirdos looking for cats to do terrible things with...,

Just ask lots of questions, and go with your gut.

Well, she stood until 4am. Even with all of the decongestants, had a hard time sleeping and then i was wheezing. I had to give her the boot at 5am. She at least had 12 hours of a good night sleep. She must have been heartbroken, kinda did feel bad.

She even hissed at a mouse and was adamant to get it inside the closet, to get it.

Been feeding her, so she is good in that department. But now she is more scheming with me, trying to get inside.

Good news, found a reputable organization that is going to spay her, give her shots, and get her a foster home by friday. So tonight is her last night, hopefully in the streets. As she shouod be picked up by 6pm est tomorrow.

I had a dark period in my life, a few actually ; but the one i am referencing is a time i was in wichita, ks and ended up homeless for two weeks. Not getting into details, but the problem coupd have easily been resolved with a phone call or a few to friends n family, but my pride wouldnt allow it. Either way, problem was solved in two weeks. I remember the sleepless nights and being vigilant. I also remember figuring out ways to make sure i had enough cash to eat until those two weeks passed. Remember in the hot day, this ood senile woman who was homeless gave me a can of soda. She didnt know my situation, i dont think. But was grateful. Realized my life could have been worse, could have been the woman who thought her online bf in nigeria was real and was gonna spend my disability check to send it to him. The day everything was resolved, i got a $150 gift card to subway, so she can eat for a bit.

So my care for attention towards this cat is not for karma points(as thats not how karma works), its because i remember how it was for those two weeks. And a cat is much more defenseless than good olé me.

This story, not even my friends or family know, i shared it as i ak a faceless person in this forum.

Will keep u updated tomorrow

There can't possibly be a more sad, empty and lonely feeling of having noplace to belong or be wanted in this world.

I read the title of this thread and despite how sad it hits me, of course was drawn in, had to read..............

I almost choke up at the words, how she follows you and won't leave, scheming on a way to get in.. That's just downright depressing.

Might be my mood right now, but gosh, so many in this world that are lost souls looking to be found.

Thanks for caring enough to hopefully change this little girl's life and future.

See my statement next to my avatar pic? How true is that?!

It's wonderful that you found an organization to help you, and that they have found her a foster home! This kitty sounds like she's got a great personality--maybe the foster home will become her permanent home. The stray I took in almost a month ago was supposed to be a foster until I found him a permanent home--but I haven't actually been looking the past week for a permanent home because I think he's found one--mine. I'm glad you were able to help this cat.

today is the day, waiting for the person to pick up, was gonna keep the cat inside when i came back from errands, its raining hard and now she's hiding underneath the stairs of the townhome, the cement is cracked, so that's where she's been taking shelter lately, before it was a basement with a broken window, but now its underneath my stairs, idk if its due to the fact its near me. but i know she's there, cause i whistled and she comes out, but not this time. raining too hard.

since she stood that one night, she has become more adamant in her attempts to come inside.

hope i can find her before these people show up, lol.

This made me in tears. :'(

When I was a kid, I always dreamed of having a magic or power where in a snap of my finger I can totally change the situation of a cat or any animal in trouble and place them into somewhere safe. Or change the situation entirely. Growing up, I realized that I don't need to have magic or power to help cats or any animal in trouble because in my own hands I can do the things I thought was a power of magic.

Im hoping and praying that the poor sweet kitty will find a loving home to stay with.

@catwoman, I really love your statement. And I definitely agree to that!! :)

I hope the new owner shows up and all goes well.
I want to take in all homeless "babies". My husband said 4 is the limit.
Exactly why I started a cat rescue group, and do lots of tnr'ing, etc. Pulling from the shelter before they are euthanized, and so on.

It IS in our hands and our hearts, and I love knowing there are others like me out there, lots on the cat site that's for sure!!

The problem is so big, and needs so much help, it's become my life's mission, to save as many as I can/able to. It's tough, but I love what I do :)))

she  was picked up by an animal rescue group, (green street rescue in philadelphia) she had a major flea infestation, again. i bathe her with alcohol bath, literally i  dunked her body with alcohol, shock and oww the fleas. the lady is gonna give her a special pill to kill them. but i saw at least 2 dozen fleas jumping out of the alcohol bath. then i took a comb and combed her wet fur to get any loose fur and any fleas hiding. then i washed her with soap. she  was pissed at me, i had to hold her down with a little force cause she was pissed. she  began crying a bit, but i did most of the job, so i let her dry up underneath my chair. she  didn't run from me, but she didn't want to chill with me on the bed (with a huge towel over it)

when the lady from animal rescue came, i put her in a box, so she don't freak and run away.. lady put her in a cage and she's gonna have the works done for her, flea pill, worm pills, and whatever else they gonna do. she  got a home waiting for her already, so i'm delighted. she  was kinda scared when she was in the box, but i rubbed her and said shhhh.... i told her, u going to your new home and she just stood still.

when she was in the cage, she didn't freak, she was just curious to the cage, so she must have known she was going somewhere safe.

i saw her ear got cut from a fight with another cat, which i saw for the first time in this side of the neighborhood. it began raining hard and she wouldn't get out of her hiding spot, then when it stopped raining, i got out and saw the other cat ready to bother her, so i grabbed her quick and brought her inside. she  lucked out, she avoided the heavy rain. and i saw the weather channel its gonna be really cold in a few days. saved just in time.

i can sleep a bit better now and don't have a cat giving me her pitty meows everytime i open the door.
