I think that box is beautiful, @angels4mom.....What will you do with it then?
Last night I didn't want to put it into the ground. This morning I thought of it as a bed for him but if I put a blanket in the vets box it should be okay. My friend said either one is ok with him.

Yeah, your friend did a lot of work on that box, so much detail.  So you could either keep it and put Cocoa's scrapbook photos and stuff into it, or use it as his bed.  That is a hard decision.  You have a cool friend to do that, very talented in woodwork.  I guess Holly and Mandie liked it, too.  Also put that song in there, or with Cocoa, on Thursday, It was very moving.

ps. throw some cocoa beans in too, since you said you named him after them.

Probably after Thursday, things will get better.  His spirit is already gone to heaven, and its just his body being laid to rest.

It is truly beautiful. Your precious Cocoa wouldn't mind what he was buried in, his spirit will always be with you. Store his precious memories and mementos in the box, it would become more valued over the years as your heart heals and your memories comfort you.

Alisa's and Bob and Di's suggestion's are wonderful. To put your keepsakes in that box is a lovely way to keep your treasures with you, always. We travel a lot with my husband's work so I opted for cremation and the little Murrdawg comes with us everywhere ... Like I mentioned I have his urn and his things in a wicker hamper but that box is such a lovely idea I think I might find something a little more like that so that I can add a lock and movers won't think it's a hamper with clothes in it:)

But, whatever you decide, you just take your time, hon. If he's safe where he is take whatever time you need. You have a lot of people here who are right there with you

Something came up with the friend who is going to be taking Cocoa and I in so I had to reschedule for the 24th. I like the idea of putting something cocoa in the box. After all, he is named after one of my favorite food groups. I am overwhelmed with the care and love he put into it and how gorgeous it is. I liked how Mandie and Holly checked it out too. He is safe where he's at. This winter was a harsh one. The electric went out here once for several hours. I was more afraid for Cocoa than the freezer where my food is. I told him though that I would take good care of him.

You mean the Cocoa Rap song? :)

My name is Cocoa and I'm oh so fine
The little girl kitties kiss me all the time,
They say I'm handsome and they think I'm cute
Oh yeah I'm one fine lookin' dude.

That is a very cool and funny song..
.but no...I meant the Bobby Helms or  Bobby Vinton one you quoted before,

"You are my special angel
Sent from up above
The Lord smiled down on me
And sent an angel to love

You are my special angel
Right from paradise
I know you're an angel
Heaven is in your eyes"
But now I think your Cocoa, was more of a rap artist..
..so yes,....use that one, or use both.

Once you bury him, you will get some more closure....It will be tough till then.

Are you starting to feel a bit better since you have Mandie and Hollie, and some time has passed?

I put Special Angel as a ringtone on my phone. The version by The Vogues. That little angel saved my life but I couldn't save his. I still have that pain that just tears me apart. I have a little fun thinking of him sometimes but it's still excruciating most times.

I'm afraid I didn't read the whole thread and, for that, I apologize.  I just wanted to say to the original poster, I so understand.  I called my boy Rascal my baby boy too.  I lost all my kitties over 10 years ago now and thoughts of them, and my original cat who was my confident growing up, still make me cry at times - and it's been over 25 years for my original kitty!  I've recently lost some family members and I know that loss is loss is loss.  Who you love, our special companions included, never diminishes and we are vulnerable for to that loss forever.

And there's also times we feel insane gratitude that we had them at all and can recognize that if it is a choice between not at all but no pain or having the time we had and pain, I take the pain every time.

I Love it!!!

I did one about my Perkins but it's not as cool as Cocoa's.

Here it goes....

I Love You Perkie oh yes I do,
I Love You Perkie even though you poo,
And when you poo I'm blue,
Oh Perkie I Love You...

The thing is @angels4mom....I don't think we were meant to save them.  We were just meant to learn something and now to move on.  Don't get stuck in the past, because it is gone.
Just do things like your Cocoa would have, ....I don't mean running around the house and knocking trash cans over.
I mean, living for today, like our cats do.  They don't think about yesterday, or tomorrow.  They just want affection, food, warmth, and to relax with good stuff on t.v., or sunshine, and stuff.

I love the last smilie. I'll try to behave and not knock over trash cans tonight. Maybe tomorrow. I forgot to ask. What if I feel a need to hack up a hairball? :)

I feel the urge to go and knock over some trash cans and sleep in the recycling bin.

I'm sorry for your losses Stephanie. Hopefully some day I will just be thankful for the love we shared and warmed by the memories.

Yeah, I can't fit in the recycling bin, either, sadly.

He use to jump on top of my upright freezer and fridge and shelves. He was quite a monkey. :rub:
