I give them 1/8 cup at 9. then another 1/8 cup at 11. do you actually mix the canned with the dry? im think putting wet on the bottom and dry on top.  Im just afraid of mixing the two and having alot of wasted food.
Yes, I would mix it up. If the dry is at the top, they might be crafty enough to pick off the dry and leave the rest.

You can always put the leftover food in the fridge to try again later. A few members who have kitties with eating issues, do this, as do I, from to time.

I do that with the leftovers. But the problem is what is left on their plate I can't save. I just think the cats are going to smell the food and walk away if its not their typical(plain) dry. I could be wrong. LOL

I mixed some Sheba chicken and tuna with the dry last night and this am. They liked it. Not sure how well they will eat it with the other kinds mixed in. Well see.

I fed them the FF turkey and giblets today. They liked it. They ate more then they have with some of the better brands. But they still didnt eat everything on their plate. i even gave them less this am. Just 1/8 cup of dry mixed with a bit of wet. i uslaly gove them 1/4 cup dry. they are just so used to eating a little at a time. Not sure how to break that.

Some really good progress!
You may find when feeding both the dry and wet together, that some food may get left behind. Remember that the dry is denser and will be more filling. It sounds like they are certainly willing to eat wet food, just not some wet foods. I find that some of the higher end foods may not be that tasty as they don't use artificial flavors to enhance the food, so your cats may find some that is on the bland side. In this case, instead of feeding fish, maybe what you need to do is incorporate some toppers like freeze-dried treats made from fish, break these up and sprinkle on the wet food. Petsmart sells PureBites Freeze-Dried Treats : http://reviews.petsmart.com/4830/12...s-freeze-dried-cat-treats-reviews/reviews.htm

Positive vibes for continued progress!

I feel like almost an expert in the Hound & Gatos.  Dandy had a case of Chicken and a case of Lamb, Chicken, and Salmon.  She really didn't like the Chicken, although now if we are taking it out to the outdoor cat, she will eat some.  (Get a competing cat?)

For awhile, I tried mixing FF fish with the Lamb, Chicken and Salmon and got some of it into her that way.  However, it is appearing that she doesn't care that much for the Whitefish/Tuna FF either.  She seems to like the Salmon/Shrimp FF one.  (I don't like to feed a much fish either.) We tried a number of kinds of Hound & Gatos (bless Buttons, the non-picky cat) and suddenly Dandy likes the lamb.  Just lamb. I've mentioned the odd texture of many of these and the lamb is more solid. Dandy ate beef just fine for awhile and suddenly went off on it.  Both Wellness Beef & Chicken and NVI Beef.

Buttons is well supplied for life probably.  She will be 14 soon.

However, today Dandy is laying around acting dopey.  My husband fed her the H&G Lamb, Chicken & Salmon (and it's really Lamb, Salmon, Chicken) so I don't know if it doesn't agree with her or what.

Good luck finding something.  She eats NVI Rabbit fairly well and still eats her Wellness kitten food.  I sure hate to go to the vet again and say the cat's acting dopey.

This all sounds like an interesting endeavor.    I will get my Izzy in about 3 weeks (or so)  now and she will be 10 weeks at that time.  .  I would guess she is eating dry kitten chow now.  I plan on on trying to wean her over the wet.  I have never fed my cats wet before.  I hope it goes well.

Hi there,

As Izzy is a very young kitty, she hasn't had much time to develop any particular attachment to certain foods yet, so the timing is ideal and it should be fairly easy to do a switch to wet food.

Just a couple of tips when selecting canned food to get Izzy off to a good start :

1. Try and select wet foods that don't contain things like corn, wheat gluten, soy. Brown Rice and Barley are okay but if possible its best to choose grain-free wet food if you can.

2. Make sure that the first ingredient on the canned food is a meat source, either chicken or turkey, duck, lamb, salmon

3. Variety is the spice of life - Its a good idea to vary her diet in selecting different protein sources such as those above. Some foods she will like and some others not so much. Its good to try a couple of different brands, experiment a little and have fun.

Best of luck with your new kitty!

Thanks, i dont know how others feed 100% wet. I guess they just have cats that like it.  Or maybe the cheaper brands are easier to like ;/
Hi momof3b1g,

I have been working on transitioning my cats from dry food to all wet, and soon, hopefully onto a partial raw diet. I started back in October and my cats have gone from eating all dry to 1/4 cup dry per day, and the majority is wet canned food. While it can be challenging to transition kibble cats, its not impossible either. It just takes a bit of patience, commitment and time. One very good reason why cats tend to prefer dry food is that it is denser than wet food and offers more calories so cats feel more satiated when on it. The longer they have been on dry, the more committed they will be to it.

The following link is to an article at Lisa Pierson's (DVM) website, which is a page that discusses transitioning cats from dry food to canned. Its a really good read that offers some good information and tips for getting hardcore kibble cats off of dry food : http://www.catinfo.org/docs/TipsForTransitioning1-14-11.pdf. Hopefully this can to give you some ideas, and inspiration.
We have a great article, written by our own @LDG  on the very topic -

Transitioning Your Cat from Kibble to a New Type of Food (Canned, Raw, or Homemade)

There's a few other gems, if I may say so myself
, in our health and nutrition articles section.

One of mine took a while to switch onto wet food.

Just wanted to mention that my girls both LOVE LOVE LOVE Hound & Gatos Pork flavour. It's their favorite canned hands down.

Today we tried Wellness Core turkey and duck. They all liked it. It does have pork liver, not sure thats why. Or they like the turkey and duck. :)

I was able to mix some of the Hounds and gatos chicken with sheba chicken to get them eat it, yesterday. Though I think some still didnt eat it as much as they do if it was just sheba. They are just to finicky or smart. LOL

Cowboy Cookout was liked. 5 liked (2 wouldnt touch it)the NV lamb, but someone threw it up :(

Weruva Funk in the trunk was a hit. But it has tuna, which they love

Glad to hear about the continued progress you are making with the wet food!
That's wonderful! I knew you could do it. :)

I read in another post that one or two of your kitties had vomited their meal. This does happen from time to time due to eating too fast as you have already suspected. If it happens often then it can be a sign that one of the foods may not be well tolerated, and just needs to be switched out for something else. Are they still getting some dry now?

Miss Dandelion would not touch the H&G Pork.  It's good that I only had 2 cans.  She is really a pain to feed.  FF is mostly what goes the best and she will eat her kitten food but she is 9 mos. and is still eating the NVI Rabbit fairly well.  It is a chore to feed this cat. She still eats H&G Lamb reasonably well too.

Evo cat and kitten didn't work out.  She ate it but didn't seem to feel well.

She get 1/8 c. of dry at night and that is no problem at all.

Thanks, I can get them to eat canned. just not very much. I even decreased the amount of dry. HMM. trying to stay positive. :)
Hi I am transitioning my cats to more wet they just turned one and just when I think I have them figured out they decide they don't like something anymore. Also since adding more wet they don't seem to eat it all and I feed an ounce I think and and twice a day. Good luck
