I am curious as to what type of water the people on this site use for their cat--tap water? bottled water? filtered water?

My kitty has a UTI last year, so I use filtered water in her bowl. I would use bottled, but since I started her on 100% wet with bottled water added, she doesn't drink from her bowl--at least not that I can see.

Filtered tap in filtered fountains. Mine also drink less now with an all wet diet.

Good article!

Filtered from the tap in the kitchen. I have Pur water filter on the faucet. We are getting ready to purchase water softener and a reverse osmosis drinking water system within a few weeks. Our water through the county is too bad to drink.

Tap water. But they prefer the water in my fish tank. That has a water treater to make tap safe for fish. So I assume it would be better actually. My girls are weird in that they dip their paws in and lock their paws. Abigail will drink from the toilet if my dad forget to put the top down and she'll drink from the sink.when I buy myself voss they get some.

Water from the Pur filter on the faucet. Angel has had his share of UTI's & crystals!  He Finally just got his first all clear urinalysis from the Vet

a couple of days ago. We have been dealing w/ it sense Christmas, so ONLY filtered water for him!! I also always mix water in his wet food, &

because of that, I never see him drink from his water bowl either, but I always keep it there & fresh just, in case.

The cats only get bottled water. We have a lot of iron and such in our well, so even though we do have a water softener and a reverse osmosis system for the water, I'd rather see the cats drink bottled water. I don't want to take any chances with UTIs and other problems.

I give them bottled water.  I don't like the tap water to drink, so I can't see giving it to my cats either.

We have good water here but since my husband and I drink bottled water, we figure the kitties are like our kids and deserve the best. So..bottled water.

I don't trust tap water, plus I don't want to let them drink flouride,

so I only give them Deer Park - same thing I drink.

In another forum I belong to, I've read where people were giving nursery water because of providing flouride. Is there a definite consensus on this?

I have not personally conducted any scientific studies,

but if you search "Fluoride bad for cats" or similar, you will see many articles talking about risks for kidneys, bladder, stomach, thyroid, and many other potential problems

that can arise when cats get too much fluoride. Seems that they get plenty from "meals" and other meat based ingredients that contain bone.

Reportedly. the flouride that the chickens, etc... have consumed is passed through to the Kitties through the bones.

Additionally, I saw one article at Feline-Nutrition.org that stated that "Brita-type filters do not remove fluoride"

and municipal water sources are notorious for adding more fluoride than we need.

After I lost one of my Babies to cancer a few years ago, I became much more serious about Feline Nutrition and one of the books I purchased

mentioned that flouride was bad for them. (Dr Pitcairn's or Dr Pierson's I expect.) So, I researched bottled water and found that Deer Park is one

of the more consistent and pure brands out there, it has less fluoride than many others,

and it is affordable when you buy the 3 Liter bottles on sale (often around 50 cents) so we have been drinking it ever since.

Please recycle the bottles!

My cats have a fountain with a charcoal filter in it. They love to drink the moving water and will wait after I clean it for allof the new water to go throught the filter. They also have some regular bowls with just tap water in them. They will drink out of them but usually wait until the water is a day or so old. I guess they're waiting for whatever's in the tap water to settle out.

Filtered tap water. We have a fountain for both our cats and they definitely drink more water from it than when they had a regular bowl with tap water.
